      Direct engagement hubs rock. I ride onxy hubs with direct engagement. These hubs are better for my knees with no slip or slop from the outdated pawl hubs. The sound from pawl hubs are friction of the little clutches rubbing then the slip is the gap of engagement. Glad to hear shimano is offering the new tech hubs.

    With massive braking powers of disc brakes, it’s natural Shimano increases the stiffness of their top racing wheels. Really smart engineering.

    Can we swap the freehub to 11 speed type to accommodate 11 speed cassette.

  • @sepg5084
    @sepg5084 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    The play in the freehub actually helps me generate initial momentum on my first pedal stroke which greatly helps when i have to restart on a climb, letting my foot accelerate a bit downwards before the freehub bites. This generates additional initial torque, just like in car drag racing where you rev your motor first before you let go of the clutch which helps launch the car forward.

    • @mashkina
      @mashkina 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For me it is totally the opposite: it is like pedaling 20 degrees (18-tooth ratchet) for nothing, and when the hub engages, you hear that “clunck” sound. Horrible. That is with a 105 ratchet. In my other bike, fulcrum with 32 teeth, the experience is much much smoother, but still not perfect.

    • @hzmeister9596
      @hzmeister9596 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cup and cone bearings are actually superior in nearly every way. If you keep up with maintenance they'll last forever. Sealed bearings have the advantage of being able to replaced by the second owner of the wheels after the first owner trashes them.
      Also from a subjective point of view nice cup and cone wheels always feel faster to me.

    • @lustyd
      @lustyd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The difference being that a better solution has been created for braking. Cup and cone remains the best option for racing wheels due to lower resistance. Cup and Cone also allow pro mechanics to maintain them before every race. Sealed bearings are a cost cutting measure for hub manufacturers who don't have Shimano's expertise. They are also easier for amateur mechanics to replace. Dura Ace and Ultegra are not aimed at that market.

    Anyone put 28mm or 30mm tires on these wheels? How do they fit, do they keep with the aero profile with the 28mm or 30mm tires?

    • @RafyelBrooks
      @RafyelBrooks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've switched between Conti GP5000 TL 28mm, and Good Year Eagle F1 28mm, and PZero TLR 28mm and they're spot on flush, on the C50's. The wheels feel great and not as harsh as perceived from the commentary.

    The silver lining is that the future 105/GRX 12speed group sets will finally be able to replace the 3x systems in the touring/adventure/tandem bikes.
    A combination of a 50-34 crankset with a 11-34 cassette (or even a 48-31/11-30 pair) will have both the range and a plenty of single-tooth jumps.
    A dynamo in such applications could also charge all the Di2 mechatronics.

    They dont look like shimano wheels that we are used to.
    They are still heavier than my 2014 C24 which have the disc rotor built into the rim for more aero and weight savings.

I also understand that you need to make a living with the advertisement. but its quite difficult to find an actual real review on your channel and the credibility is getting lower and lower. ever product you review is always amazing and on the forums you find the actual problems and negative points of the products. please consider this, because i beleive that credibility is quite important on a channel llike this.

    They look good. I hope they don‘t mess it up with licenses for the new freehub body like they did with MicroSpline on the MTB. Did I spot a traditional stem and handlebars cockpit on Ollie‘s Pinarello? Why is that? Aero gains wasted!

    • @matt-10229

      @@matt-10229 I thought that PRO has integrated carbon cockpits in their lineup so I don‘t understand why the didn‘t go for the top of the range but I might be wrong on that.

      @@chrisridesbicycles You're right they do have Vibe aero bars but from the video Ollie is using the 2 piece vibe cockpit with the stem design that is instantly recognisable as the PRO vibe stem. It could also be it was the only thing Madison (the UK Shimano distributer could easily and quickly get out to GCN) or it could just be that it was the best cost effective way to do more product placement. Who knows but those who made the decisions? We could guess all day long.
      In defense of the PRO Vibe alloy bars, they're incredible and I miss them from when I went integrated.

      I have used them when I was around 120kgs and never had a problem. It is really a good wheelset especially for heavier riders. It is hooked and pressure limit is 109psi so you can pump it up enough for 100+ kgs with 25" tires.
