Wow, Every picture shows how important oil and gas is to everyone. Oil is used for the rayon in peoples clothing, nylon in climbing ropes and strong tear resistant / waterproof material used in rafts. Plastic keeps our food / water safe and fresh. Without the foundries there would be no metal for vans, climbing gear and bicycle / raft frames. Natural gas is used to heat the hotels in Moab and gasoline is the fuel to get the outdoor recreational crowd there. Electricity from burning fossil fuels makes this online story with it's comments possible.. So in essence people are saying we want all of the toys in the front yard yet we don't want the factories in the backyard that builds them. You can't have it both way folks. Unless you are willing to starve in a cold dark cave you are yet another hypocrite..
What is needed is "alternative" and "sustainable" energy. Not the continued emphasis on fossil fuels. Shaming people into silence is hardly an effective strategy for solving a major problem for our planet ~ but it is clearly the industry's strategy when they have little else to go with.
This is biased information and dangerous. Where is the coverage of residents in Grand County who are working three and four jobs in order to exist? Where is information about what will happen to our economy if recreation is considered with the same weight as resource development? There is nothing in this footage about the extended care facility facing bankruptcy till one oil rig produced enough revenue to save it. Who pays for the tar and chip seal to pave the additional parking lots....where do these materials come from? Who pays for the infrastructure that serves tourism and recreation? A solid economic foundation is based on production that can support a diverse community......economics 101.
@ John
How's that Solyndra stock doing for you?
Sarcasm with this serious issue only serves to prevent real thinking about it. And it's boring.
