I LOVE that she asks for translations without an ounce of embarrassment, she is so unapologetically proud of her culture even if she doesn't know the word for "trophy" or "dedicate". She's awesome. What a down to earth awesome person. LOVE HER

She's absolutely tremendous. I started bawling during her speech last night, binge watched the entire series and absolutely fell in love. I hate to say it but I resented my ethnicity growing up. I wanted to experience life like the women I admired throughout the media. I straightened my hair, spoke differently and did everything within my power to repress my Latinaness. I came to realize that I was associating intelligence, power, strength and beauty with a culture (and a skin color) that was not my own. Seeing women like Gina thrive inspires me to break every mold, discredit every stereotype. She's helping redefine what it "looks like" to be a Latina in the US. I ADORE HER. The show is also a diamond in the rough. There aren't any nasty caricatures or shallow jokes. There's just authenticity and honestly mixed in with humor, happiness and all the drama of a good telenovela. Incredibly proud right now. I can and I will!
OMG I'm binge watching it too, its brilliant. I was so excited when she won! Gina is one to watch, the other cast members are stellar too.

yeah growing up for me was similar because at that time there was no latinos or hispanics that were telivised as main people they were all white. so the media gave us the idea that our culture was not something to be portrayed as important.
I always felt horrible trying to hide the fact that I was Latina. I wanted to "white" of English descent, but as I've gotton older I've realized that so many people of my culture have fought for my rights as a chicana and for me to dismiss that seems pretty shitty.
I used to feel a sort of resent or ashame when people would ask if I was mexican but now I'm proud to be a mexican American with close ties to Mexico

Started the show like 4 days ago and now I'm all caught up and I can honestly say no one deserved this award more than her in that category, so glad she didn't get robbed just because she's a poc. Plus she comes off as a very genuinely nice person and that's always welcomed!

Oh my god, every single thing about Gina is so so so inspiring and genuine and really really lovely. I want her to get everything she ever dreamed of.
