    Ted Williams , author of the Science of Hitting . He was way ahead of his time in hitting swing analysis . The modern hitting Bible. He had the sweetest swing of all . What he would have done with today's technology and with modern training methods , OH MY .

    Of anyone on the list, I think Willie Mays’s swing translates the best to the modern era. That and his abilities as a runner and fielder. He would catch on very quickly.

      They always ask "Could the old guys play today" but they never ask "Could today's guys play in the old days? No Batting helmets, short finger gloves that were nothing more than hand protection, baseballs that didn't have rocket fuel, No steroids, and you got to be able to pitch 9 innings and get up to bat.

    Also Ty Cobb played mostly in dead ball era when Home Runs were few and a lunging, chopping swing was necessary to punch the ball out of the infield. Cobb, lifetime .460 plus, would kill the jackrabbit ball of today.

    Babe Ruth hit with bats weighing from 40-54 oz according to Ted Williams book. Yeah the pitching is “better” now but the balls are juicier. And the fields are shorter now. Read Williams book The Science of Hitting. He talks about understanding the pitcher and going through all the different scenarios during an at bat. They all would adjust. Cobb and Ruth are probably the 2 who would likely struggle the most. But the passion and dedication would lead to perseverance and success in any decade.

    If only we had stand up guys like that playing today, MLB would never have to worry about attendance issues

    • @MagicalBread
      @MagicalBread ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Character concerns (as you are obviously alluding to) aren’t to blame for declining attendance issues.
      - Baseball is too slow for today’s short attention spans: Games are WAY too long, which is why the MLB added the pitch clock.
      - Game tickets/ stadium food prices prices are at an all time high. Pricing out your average baseball fan.
      - too much competition with other sports leagues, both domestic and international: Media access for first world countries is at an all time high so previously difficult sports to follow such as European football, and formula one racing have suddenly cut into the American market for example.
      - etc.

  • @feefop9858
    @feefop9858 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Simple answer - NO. Pitching is MUCH better today. You see those 90mph sliders and splits...did not exist back then.
    These guys would have been very good, maybe 85-95% of what they were back then. Still great, really.
    Just take a look at the stances and swings back then - all that leaning in, big swings, all that motion. You can't do that against guys throwing as hard as they do today...velocity takes away hitting success.

    Othani couldn't hold Babe Ruth's jock! Ty Cobb would dominate in today's game. Willie Mays would dominate. Ted Williams would dominate and lead the league in every hitting statistic. Hank Aaron was a low ball hitter and a great player. Mickey Mantle was awesome. People forget he has the fastest time from home to first all time.

    Ridiculous question!

  • @Baseball_Therapy-hb1dh
    @Baseball_Therapy-hb1dh หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don’t have a clue who Brodie Brazil is. What I do know is that he knocked Cobb for “lunging,” then called Aaron’s swing “timeless” (watch a slow-mo of Aaron Swing as see how far he moved forward); questioned the “loopiness” of Ruth’s swing, then claimed Mays’ bucket-stepping would translate well into today’s era. And said Ohtani is better than Ruth.
    This is a guy who wants Woke plaudits more than anything else and cares not a bit about analyzing baseball. Such is the state of sports “journalism”: a guy who knows dick about what he’s watching acts like he knows more about hitting than a guy who hit .367 for his career.
    What Ruth, Mays, Aaron, Williams, Mantle, and Cobb all had in common is that they let the barrel drop and used gravity and a front arm approach to drive their swing structure. What today’s “swing gurus” call “dumping the barrel” is precisely what those greats ignored and did anyway. The reason ? Because in 3D space, a parabolic approach to the ball - once gravity and overcoming inertia is factored in - is in fact the quickest path to the ball with a swung bat. Newton taught us that.
    There’s a reason Ruth hit for power and average with a 42 oz bat - and it had nothing to do with the era in which he played (his lifetime BA and HR production was roughly the same against HOF pitchers as it was all other pitchers). It was a product of hitting the ball hard often.
    I was literally embarrassed for this guy. He looked like a guy trying to BS his way through an oral exam by trying to say things he thought the teacher wanted to hear.
    Pathetic analyses.
