      E mais fácil replantar quando corta a raizes.

      Teve uma atualização. Os que cortei teve morte de 4% (1 morte) já que não cortei teve 16% mortalidade o 4 mortes.
      Lembrando que uso 100% brita para o substrato

    Hi,
    Maybe an interesting experiment is to compare the growth rate of separate individual seedlings or keep the clusters but in new pots. Some people say that repotting clusters prevent root damage and the seedlings tend to grow faster.

      Like uppotting leaving the rootball as is?
      I’ve seen many do that with Trichocereus just so roots have more space

    Some conclusions on trimming roots in seedlings?

    • @ModernGrower
      @ModernGrower  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ll make a video on my results but since I use 100% gravel I am unable to repot finer roots so trimming is a must for me. I just always forget since I don’t repot often.
      I think unless it’s aztekium or a very slow root grower like ariocarpus you should trim and from my small scale test trimming has better survival rate as well.

      Thanks for this post I didn’t realize it’s been 9 months already lol

      @@ModernGrower yeah I am really interested in trimming or not in seedlings, because in general in the first repot many seedlings colapse, even without trimming.

      @@mcactus6210 I accept losses as part of growing but there was a difference in survival rate for this small 24/24 each setup. I would however wait to do the first repot atleast at 1 year old if possible 2 just so that it has a good starting point before stressing.

    Wow, those look really healthy.
    Getting nervous concerning my LW seedlings in bags. 6months sealed and they're still tiny yet, bout the size of match head.
    Glad to see how you transplanted those, I'm probably getting close to do the same. When finally ready, I pray I don't screw them up.
    Do you think they may do better if I transplant? They stalled out and some are looking yellowish, while others reddish.

      Yea I think it’ll help but make sure to get them use to open air beforehand. You could repot and seal again but if you damage excessively might cause them to rot.
      I always lose a few young seedlings when repotting.
      What you could do is give them a light fertilizing if you want to keep them in high humidity. Will likely increase algae but not a huge issue.

      I have two types of fertilizer, fish emulsion and regular Fox Farm brand liquid. Which would you use?
      And does "Keeping them in high humidity" mean reseal the bags after fertilizer?
      Not kidding about being nervous. Out of 150seeds, maybe twenty made it. Ugh!

      And when I do crack the bags open little by little over a few days to acclimatize them to air, can I just give them a misting of fert directly over top of them, or should I try dripping it in around them.

    • @ModernGrower
      @ModernGrower  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea just mist them completely

      Both fertilizers work just don’t use it full strength use 1/4 strength. I don’t know which would be better…

    So how’s the results so far update ?

    • @ModernGrower
      @ModernGrower  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its only been 5-6 days so I can't really tell if anything has happened. None have shriveled or rotted yet. Remember I'm inducing a drought period of around 30 days (maybe less) so it'll be atleast a month or two before any updates.
      Meaningful updates will be a few months away as far as mortality rate and growth rates.
      What I can say right now is if you use a very course and heavy soil mix like me (pure gravel) trimmed roots is a PRO over untrimmed since it is a pain to pot the longer roots in the soil. If you use a loamy soil it may be a different story since a poke will hold its shape.
