@@lindsayiflyfish I think this is not talon vise. I know that you have talon vise at many videos but I think you are using other vise at this video. Am I wrong? Many thanks.

I'm tying some now! There's a Heron colony near where I live. If you ever run out I can send you some no problem.

@@lindsayiflyfish please dont improve too much lol. I'm planning on starting competition fishing next year . I don't know exactly why but this feeling that I have deep down thinks I should try! I know I'm not anywhere near the best out there, but there's always that ten per cent luck.

James you will learn more in your first season comp fishing than you could in ten years fishing on your own.

Hi Lindsay, If you know where a heronry is get there when the birds are nesting and search the ground underneath and you can pick up the odd feather there, happy hunting, at a stretch you could use goose or turkey quill. Regards Jimf

I have found a few at the edge of the river over the years Jim, its probably one of the things I will toil to run out off.

Heron herl is a tough solid material with a almost mole fur effect. I have used a similar pattern on northern rivers. Adding a cdc plume to the head of a iron blue nymph. Grey dun hen fibre tail red thread body. At the thorax the in two matched cdc facing rearward. Dub a small mole fur thorax. Pull the cdc forward over the thorax. Lock it in at the head with the cdc plume protruding. Also substitute the red for pale yellow thread as an alternate depending on location and stage of the season. Brownies or grayling. Or if used on a Hanak 230 as an alternative for a Bob’s Bits on Stillwaters just add more cdc to support the heavier hook.

Just surfing and came across this fly, I’ll not comment on it, but that tosser Johnathon wants to take a run and jump to himself, in all probability he’ll be a tree hugger , won’t fish and the thought of using a feather that doesn’t suit his way of thinking he goes off on a rant. Ffs go away.
