Sifu Dan is one of my 4 teachers in the martial arts. Since my first lessons with him in 1995 I've found him to be not only a breath of fresh air in MA but overall the most knowledgable teacher of martial arts that I've ever met. He's truly one of the greats of this century & of all time. He's so humble, talented & wise that if anyone ever gets the opportunity to train under him, please don't miss that magical opportunity. You will learn so much if you meet him & grow as an Artist & as a person.
Guro Dan is such an enlightened person, I admire his approach and he has inspired me so much throughout my Martial Arts experience (34+ years now). He was studying before I was born!
A brilliant cultural anthropologist of the martial arts genre as well as the single most accomplished martial arts student of the 20th century. I am humbled...
@@followbruceleeswhiterabbit3812 Some of the best coaches and trainers in the world from a huge variety of skills have never competed or practiced in the thing they teach.
I respect this man alot. As great as he as and as many are or will become as Dan would agree the training never really ends we train until the day we pass
Wow I didn't know that he's a descendant of Bruce Lee until now! It's so inspiring that a humble Filipino like him teaching the JKD philosopy in the US. How I wish we can avail of his expertise here in the Philippines particularly Davao City. I hope he can hold seminars here for low fees. We are proud of you, Sir D.I.! Mabuhay!
He is a nice guy I met him years ago, I taught him some techniques with Escrima Sticks that he added to his teaching. He is not at a Master level even when he was younger. But he was at a black belt level. Dan Inosanto has a good attitude.
"... I haven't finished my training..." This from the person that knows much about fighting as anybody else in the world. This is Dan Inosanto folks. He can end a confrontation without fighting because he makes the opponent understand that a hand to hand fight with him is... more or less a failure. And yet, he is more humble than a white belt off the street, not that a belt means anything. A master of all masters. Yet humble as a student of all students. A paradox.
notice how grandmaster dan is so fast to answer the question almost before the interviewer is even done asking the question? haha. this man is a true genius, no doubt about it. gm dan inosanto > chuck norris any day.
Sorry to disagree....Mr. Inosanto was referring to those days when he said the arts were taught in secrecy my friend.I have several books that are out of print that teaches REAL dim mak and poison hand techniques. They should ONLY be taught to a person after you know his TRUE character. I have no problem with sharing knowledge. But do it responsibly. Not for the Almighty dollar. Its been a pleasure discussing this issue.May God bless you.
To Wolfgang, Well he is dead so yes, but Bruce Lee was excellent when he was alive. Not the best as he claimed but still excellent. He revitalized the Art.
It was probably an exageration. The bag was probably not that heavy and the ceiling was probably low and the bag was most likely swinging already. Then not hard to do.
Their is no such thing as mix martial arts..If you research what Bruce was learning,he said you much seek totality all inclusive techniques. No matter where it came from something in it was useful.I feel it was total at one time and different cultures took a piece of the pie and used the knowledge to soot their needs.
Remember my friend, people can hide their motives very easily...Think about that girl we all had that said they loved us...and then did what they did.Something to think about.
If that is intention of the student and teacher...like you said reputable. We must be cautious. I've taught for over 28yrs and have had students with hearts and some were very mean spirited....I also had a classmate who is serving a life sentence for murder. He was caught in bed with a(friends) wife and he killed her husband to get away....
@Mider999 private ptraining? well, if you mean one on one training with just Guro Dan and yourself....well, I would imagine that would be a lot of money. Maybe 200 per hour or maybe more. But I don't know if trains like that unless it is a celebrity who needs his training quickly for a movie role (like Denzel Washington who Guro Dan trained last year for, "The Book of Eli").
@ dennis G. Sir, In self defense by law you are allowed to use only enough violence to stop an attack. the husband caught them in bed and began to attack my classmate EMPTY HANDED! M y classmate struck this man with a Dim mak tech. He died instanly. He was charged with First degree murder. The reason being he was skilled enough to control his opponent without taking his life. I hope that clears up your confusion.
Sorry Pacult, I trained with him and taught him years ago, he is nice and was at a black belt level but even when he was younger he was not even close to being a match for a top UFC/MMA Fighter.
Yeah I'm sure he could kick most 20 or 30 year old guys' asses even though he's in his 70's lol. He's also really intelligent and wise and would make for a great guy to just sit and chat with as well as to train with. Too bad Bruce didn't get to live this long and fulfill all the potential that he had as an actor and martial artists and have more time to gain even more knowledge and skill than he had at the time of his death.
Chuck Norris was the better fighter and a Kick boxing champion. Dan was and is a good teacher but was never at the same level as Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris stated that once he got used to Bruce Lees fighting style that Bruce Lee was no match for him.
Sounds made up to me. Dim mak my butt, thats a fake myth. If he thought his life was in danger it becomes self defense. The law you stated above is in regard to an Assault/ Fight without extenuating circumstances.

this man is one of the greatest martial artist around. thank god he still teaching us. dont ever stop Guru, Sifu Inosanto :)
A brilliant cultural anthropologist of the martial arts genre as well as the single most accomplished martial arts student of the 20th century. I am humbled...
Right on the money! Here is a teacher /fighter who has trained for a long long time but is still open to change and growth in MA.
I could listen to this guy all day.
i love how he says he has lots of areas to improve in and he's at this total mastery level in nearly everything he teaches. a real hero
Joseph Heller hes never had a fight in his life , exploiter traitor to Bruce

He has such deep knowledge, nothing but respect to Guro Dan!
I respect this man alot. As great as he as and as many are or will become as Dan would agree the training never really ends we train until the day we pass
Brilliance. Sheer refined brilliance. Thank you for posting this!!
Thanks for sharing indeed. Very insightful interview. Such a fluent speaker.

dan inosanto is an inspiration. i dont think theres anybody in the world that can challenge him with a kali stick. im glad your still training

Who said that Taky doesn't like him? I've met Mr. Kimura in person and he is a great friend of Guro Dan's!
"... I haven't finished my training..."
This from the person that knows much about fighting as anybody else in the world.

Mr. Inosanto sent me a signed picture of him and Bruce Lee. It was awesome1
It isn't "Guru:...it's GURO. (rolls eyes)
is anyone else having trouble with the volume?
Wow if i was to start doing martial arts i could never catch up to him
@mario916
according to wikipedia, chuck norris was Dan Inosanto's student
i want ot see how ppl in england use to fight im actually curious. does anyone know where i can find vids on this
When you hear wisdom speaking, LISTEN!
A very wise statement.
yea man Dan Inosanto was there with bruce helping to develop JKD. they were best friends. and that's real
He is a Filipino, Filipinos' Pride
@dlvt79 Guru means teacher in the Filipino Martial Arts.
Filipino martial arts are not big in the Philippines. MMA is huge though.
However, Filipinos are lovers, not fighters.
He is 74 now.
Holy cow.
@WingChunLova Where did you get your information?
Guru Dan 4 President!
wat a champion.
Can you put subtitles? because i can't understand (i don't speak english but i can read it).
There is no such thing as finishing one's training. Bruce Lee once said that in martial arts, there is no maturity; just endless growth and evolution.
notice how grandmaster dan is so fast to answer the question almost before the interviewer is even done asking the question? haha. this man is a true genius, no doubt about it. gm dan inosanto > chuck norris any day.
I WISH I COULD TRAIN WITH HIM
What GURU means??He read the thouhgt or he can walk on the water?
genio

Holly shitt! Still looking young! Just like Chuck Norris!
To Wolfgang, Well he is dead so yes, but Bruce Lee was excellent when he was alive. Not the best as he claimed but still excellent. He revitalized the Art.
wow he use word `guru` which is malayan silat term for `master` in martial arts
no sound
It was probably an exageration. The bag was probably not that heavy and the ceiling was probably low and the bag was most likely swinging already. Then not hard to do.
Dan Inosanto was likely to countinue Bruce's philosophy.
he is a HUMBLE version of bruce..make know mistake,Bruce was cocky, but master inasanto has done nothing but continue the art,but is allot more humble
Their is no such thing as mix martial arts..If you research what Bruce was learning,he said you much seek totality all inclusive techniques. No matter where it came from something in it was useful.I feel it was total at one time and different cultures took a piece of the pie and used the knowledge to soot their needs.

He most likely try to finish what Bruce started, learning many fighting arts and mix it together.
got to be the healthiest 73 year old around!
He's in great shape for a 73 yr old
is it true that Dan Inosanto was a Filipino ?
Open your mind to any Martial Art system out there. You might learn something new.
If that is intention of the student and teacher...like you said reputable. We must be cautious. @hulkout666 this man is my hero
I like both and both look good for their age from exercise and hair dye but not young looking, maybe they look in their 60's in stead of 70's.
he looks like a Filipino ...cos he is
oh dear lord ! he looks like he is in his early 40 top
Well that way is dead now. Martial arts are a uniting force of peoples and cultures around the world.
@Mider999 private ptraining? well, if you mean one on one training with just Guro Dan and yourself....well, I would imagine that would be a lot of money. Maybe 200 per hour or maybe more. He was a student of Bruce Lee and a friend but not his best student.
youth is overrated. haha
age, experience and cunning pwns everything else
you the man Mr. Dan!
@ dennis G. Sir, In self defense by law you are allowed to use only enough violence to stop an attack. the husband caught them in bed and began to attack my classmate EMPTY HANDED! Damn... your teacher didn't notice anything dark in that student?
aa ? ok . pinoy pala sya
Sorry Pacult, I trained with him and taught him years ago, he is nice and was at a black belt level but even when he was younger he was not even close to being a match for a top UFC/MMA Fighter.
I don't think any reputable instructor (that teaches anything worthwhile) will teach someone to hurt another person without improving their character.
Yeah I'm sure he could kick most 20 or 30 year old guys' asses even though he's in his 70's lol. @toku222
can bruce lee catch a bullet?
What do you mean was? LOL he is. And your point?
Chuck Norris was the better fighter and a Kick boxing champion. Dan was and is a good teacher but was never at the same level as Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris stated that once he got used to Bruce Lees fighting style that Bruce Lee was no match for him.
Chuck was a point fighter, never a kickboxer. #facts
That sounds like a fake story. If he killed the husband to get away or survive that sounds like self defense. Or your telling it wrong.
He is still a Filipino lol
Sounds made up to me. Dim mak my butt, thats a fake myth. If he thought his life was in danger it becomes self defense. The law you stated above is in regard to an Assault/ Fight without extenuating circumstances.
Inosanto made a lot of money on Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee is a marketing tool. I saw Bruce Lee training videos. He's not that good
Comic, He's not that good. Three guys would destroy him even in his forties when I taught him.He is a black belt and he is a nice guy though.
i see you're a white belt in grammar fu!
I don't think he likes to be called a Guru.
disagreed...oooops lol.
traitor and exploiter to Bruce
