Most of those songs are together on the album ‘The Singles 1969 - 197’ . On that album only, I love the way that the three songs, ‘Superstar’, ‘Rainy Days & a Mondays’ and ‘Goodbye Days to Love’ all harmoniously flow into each other musically without pause. Perfection!

My older sister used to play 'Top of the World' on repeat on her record player back when I was very young in the 70's. It's kinda ingrained in my DNA now - but I'm OK with that. 😂
I was 22 years old when Karen died. For decades I wasn't able to listen to the Carpenters without crying. A great voice gone way too soon, Such a sad life she lead. It's only been in the past year that I've been able to listen to her again and revel at her remarkable voice. Astonishing!

I sang 🎶 Bless the beasts and the children...light their way when the darkness surrounds them~ give the love~ let it shine all around them 🎶 yes, this I sang continually as I 'battened down the hatches' before entering the protective washroom as some very peculiarly dark clouds covered the whole sky...possibly a tornado could touch down~~I kept singing this not only to protect me but ALL those INNOCENT CREATIONS seeking protection amidst a storm surge. Very grateful to testify after 15 minutes decided to come out and investigate. Those menacing storm clouds dissipated for now I saw only normal clouds and blue sky!!! Oh, so grateful ❤ to God and The Carpenters' penetrating, healing song❤!

in 1976 the Carpenters did a concert in Lansing MI which was my home town. I regret not going, I didn't know about it until they were sold out, I was busy in college, at MSU, practicing the trumpet for hours in music school. The idea that I could have even been in the same room with the Carpenters haunts to this day. Who didn't want to be Close to You, Karen? You were liked the talented girl next door to many of us, young and old, and your brother the telneted guy next door. there w as time the Carpenters dominated the charts for about 6 years, the first half of the 1970's. They so gracious to their fans

Her drums was her safety zone and putting her out front and telling her that she would be on TV And TV makes you 20 pounds heavier and she had to lose weight when she never did have to lose weight. The music industry killed her. They gave her anorexia. She was so shy and such a great drummer. They took away one of her passions and yes, a security blanket, but she was so young, and then to tell her, she was fat and never was fat. Even in this video when she turns to the side, you can see how sharp her hip bones are even with all the layers to the dress, and the puffy sleeves could not disguise to us who saw in real life how skinny she was. The production company made sure she was always layered and clothes, but every once in a while, we get a sneak peek of her and just a long sleeve shirt and pants and how Skinny she was and how gaunt her face looked. They all knew she had anorexia. She never died. She should never have gotten that disease and it still pisses me off to this day.

The crazy thing is that both of them were desperately ill; her with not eating and taking copious amounts of laxatives and him totally addicted to quailuds; yet they can still pull a performance like that out of the bag. Pure pure genius both of them ❤

Superstar is one of my favorites, for sure, but even more than that, I like Solitaire and Masquerade, if you’re looking for something a little different. ❤ Really if you wanted to, you could break out all the songs that were in that medley, and react to each one in full and you couldn’t go wrong, they were all great songs.

In 2018 Richard did the arrangements for 18 of their songs grabbed their masters and went to the Abbey Road Studio in London and a new Carpenters album was born. The album features Carpenters' "original vocal and instrumental tracks" accompanied by new orchestral arrangements by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Richard Carpenter served as the album's producer, arranger and conductor. I believe it will be added to your favorite list. Not surprising as anything that came out of Karen's mouth becomes my favorite and when she was 15 to 18 I used to see her in clubs around Los Angeles as the drummer for the Dick Carpenter Jazz Trio. She was my favorite drummer then.
Dionne Warwick said Karen Carpenter was the only singer she ever knew with perfect pitch! Karen singing live sounded just like her records. Her brother insisted they sound the same live as their recordings. to not disappoint their fans.
This was Karen at the top of her game. Energetic, vibrant and uber talented. I have seen a lot of statements about comments that may have triggered her illness, and in an age of incendiary internet trolls, it is best to try to maintain civility. However, we have learned in the 40 years since she passed, that anorexia and bulimia are very very complicated psychological disorders, that it takes a lot of commitment to starve yourself to death, and it is still happening today.
Great choice here, SalvoG. This is one performance that I’ve never seen before and so it was interesting to listen how Karen slightly modified her intonation and breathing techniques just a bit with time since she did each song’s recording - meaning what was old was became new on the listen. But what far more overwhelmingly strikes me is that Karen Carpenter *never* delivers a poor performance. She’s simply too much a master of voice…. which then saddens me all the more to just how much the world lost upon her untimely death. Gone far too soon 😢
Too many reactors focus on the guitar solo on Goodbye to Love rather than the whole song, exposing their narrow musical preference for guitar dominated songs, and then dismiss any other Carpenter material as goody two shoes music...dumb dumb dumb...these two were geniuses with high standards that reached the world market of ALL ages. they were talented "kids" next door, and Karen paid a heavy price to make it happen, and all some care about is a guitar solo? The crazy thing is that both of them were desperately ill; her with not eating and taking copious amounts of laxatives and him totally addicted to quailuds; yet they can still pull a performance like that out of the bag. Pure pure genius both of them ❤
It's so difficult to watch her performing. Listening to her perform is delightful, the visual knowing what happened is heart breaking. I grew up listening to The Carpenters, they were playing throughout my childhood.
I loved Karen Carpenter so very much. Her voice was so beautiful her and her brothers harmonies were Pitch Perfect. I was so pissed when they took her out from behind the drums while she sang. Her drums was her safety zone and putting her out front and telling her that she would be on TV And TV makes you 20 pounds heavier and she had to lose weight when she never did have to lose weight. The music industry killed her. They gave her anorexia. She was so shy and such a great drummer. They took away one of her passions and yes, a security blanket, but she was so young, and then to tell her, she was fat and never was fat. Even in this video when she turns to the side, you can see how sharp her hip bones are. They all knew she had anorexia. She never died. She should never have gotten that disease and it still pisses me off to this day.
Superstar is one of my favorites, for sure, but even more than that, I like Solitaire and Masquerade, if you’re looking for something a little different. ❤ Really if you wanted to, you could break out all the songs that were in that medley, and react to each one in full and you couldn’t go wrong, they were all great songs.

In 2018 Richard did the arrangements for 18 of their songs grabbed their masters and went to the Abbey Road Studio in London and a new Carpenters album was born. The album features Carpenters' "original vocal and instrumental tracks" accompanied by new orchestral arrangements by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Richard Carpenter served as the album's producer, arranger and conductor. I believe it will be added to your favorite list. Not surprising as anything that came out of Karen's mouth becomes my favorite and when she was 15 to 18 I used to see her in clubs around Los Angeles as the drummer for the Dick Carpenter Jazz Trio. She was my favorite drummer then.

This was Karen at the top of her game. Energetic, vibrant and uber talented. I have seen a lot of statements about comments that may have triggered her illness, and in an age of incendiary internet trolls, it is best to try to maintain civility. However, we have learned in the 40 years since she passed, that anorexia and bulimia are very very complicated psychological disorders, that it takes a lot of commitment to starve yourself to death, and it is still happening today.

I’m never a huge fan of medleys. These songs are worthy of a beginning, middle, and end! But her vocals are pitch perfect.
Karen’s passing is such a sad story 😢
It was a gift to all of us, to hear her angelic sound…but her depression caused her anorexia, so so sad, her pain.
Great choice here, SalvoG. This is one performance that I’ve never seen before and so it was interesting to listen how Karen slightly modified her intonation and breathing techniques just a bit with time since she did each song’s recording - meaning what was old was became new on the listen. But what far more overwhelmingly strikes me is that Karen Carpenter *never* delivers a poor performance. She’s simply too much a master of voice…. which then saddens me all the more to just how much the world lost upon her untimely death. Gone far too soon 😢
Too many reactors focus on the guitar solo on Goodbye to Love rather than the whole song, exposing their narrow musical preference for guitar dominated songs, and then dismiss any other Carpenter material as goody two shoes music...dumb dumb dumb...these two were geniuses with high standards that reached the world market of ALL ages. they were talented "kids" next door, and Karen paid a heavy price to make it happen, and all some care about is a guitar solo? Jesus Lord...
