- Before he won the Elite event on Ross Barnett, Dustin Connell didn’t think he had enough to win. In this clip from Bassmaster Live, he opens up about his doubt, the community support that keeps him going, his biggest catch of Championship Monday, and competing against Kevin VanDam.

I come back to this video about once a year. I was a marshal in this tournament and to see DC come out on top over KVD, a guy he undoubtedly idolized like the rest of us, and win the tournament was amazing. Now seeing what he has done with his career. This was just the beginning.
Absolutely amazing. He thought he had lost the whole time. Incredible he held off KVD. THIS is why we fish!!!

6 years later and I still come back to this video. What an amazing moment. There is no way to describe the pressure he must’ve felt out there. I get nervous on the water at the $100 open tournaments, when the local hammer tells me he has 5 and I have 1 in the box…

I've fished bass opens with these rookie anglers and I can tell you most all of them are down to earth anglers that have incredible passion and only thing they wanted was to make it to the elites and do well. I'm glad to see him make it, it gets old seeing the same 4 or 5 top names hold up trophies. Then seeing rookies not make the roster after the first year.

I remember going fishing early in this morning and watched this all day in my office. This is work people. If you don't have passion everything is impossible but with it, your a winner already. This was a great tourney. He did good! Job well done.
