Can my 12V fridge/freezer run more efficiently? SENIOR WOMAN IN MINIVAN, Getting Road Trip Ready #3

  • Welcome to my new TH-cam channel!!
My name is Lulu and I’m a senior solo woman traveling in a minivan camper.
My objective here on TH-cam is to feel joy and bring joy!!
After my friend Bob watched my van tour on Butterfly Tracks channel (link below), I was blessed with his helpful advice (he is in the heating/cooling business). He made some suggestions on insulating my homemade under-the-floor cooler system to be more efficient, as well as an idea on a way to have my 12V fridge/freezer run more efficiently. Thanks Bob!!!
Implementing these suggestions are part of my Road Trip Ready Series, as I always look to improve my tiny home on wheels!!!

    Be well,
    Lulu

If you ever find that you need to do this again due to wear and tear, maybe wrap a continuous piece from side to side without cutting. Then tape the corners anyway for added strength. Just a thought.

I had thought of that as well.

That aluminum tape might be a game changer when I start to make my front window covers. I will also try to use this technique on my fridge, but mine is out in the open (also used as a bench) so it will need to be decorated! Love how the channel is turning out! Hope we meet 'down the road'!

I hear ya!! if you have to look at it all day, it's gotta be pretty!! my fridge is tucked away on the front passenger seat floor under the dashboard so I don't have to look at it!! 😂

Excellent idea! We may implement this for our 12V fridge in our tiny-house-on-wheels that we currently live in (only 7.5 x 14.5 feet!) in order to save electricity use, as we are totally on solar and need to be mindful of how we use the electricity we have gathered. We used this type of insulation ("Reflectix") when we built this tiny house. We've got some left over. It has so many great uses!

Hello. Recent subscriber here. That double thick plumber's insulation is fantastic! I used the thin insulation to make window covers, and was about to do the same for my fridge (same size/style as yours), but the insulation and tape you showed are amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.

not sure where you'd buy that stuff, a friend gave me a sheet of it. I still have a lot of it back home and I'm regretting that I didn't line the inside of my cooler with it before I left. I think it would crank up the efficiency on the cooler too. oh well!!!

@@LulusWay64 got to thinking about it, instead of buying more insulation, I will use the thin reflectix I currently have and glue on some lightweight quilting fabric (from Joann's) that I have left over from my window covers. Enjoying your videos so much.

@@LulusWay64 We got our Reflectix at Home Depot. It comes in rolls. We used thinner stuff (than what you had) as we were combining it with other types of insulation when building our tiny house on wheels.

What a great idea! I wonder where he bought the foil. How did you learn how to do a TH-cam video? What kind of phone or camera are you using? Great job insulating the cooler. Safe travels.

my friend Bob had a piece of this stuff left over from insulating a water heater. so I wonder if Lowe's would have it, I don't know!! I watched a couple of youtube videos on how to post youtube videos (lol) and I did it!!! I'm just using my phone, it's an Android. or sometimes I use my iPad Pro. so far it's working well!! Lulu

Good information. I was thinking about how to insulate my 12V fridge. Blankets/towels may slide around and cover the vents. This will not and it is lightweight as well as wipeable. I may even add a decorative cloth over the foil insulation using spray glue. It would not be wipeable then, but you know... crafty projects tend to grow. How did this affect the space requirements for the fridge? You had it behind the driver's seat I believe. Thank you for sharing.

    • @LulusWay64
      @LulusWay64  ปีที่แล้ว

I keep it behind the passenger seat that gets turned around, so it's tucked away under the dashboard and not seen so I didn't consider what it looked like. but, if I can see it, I always consider what everything looks like, so it's pleasing to my eye!! there is enough space there so this will still fit!! have fun with your crafty project!!!
