You reminded me of the time when I was a scientific assistant in the Met Office at Heathrow, during the winter of 62/63. Apart from a short-lived slightly milder patch, during about the middle of January when the temperature rose to +4 C, the weather was continually sub-zero from 26.12.1962, right up to the beginning of March, when warmer weather started its attack from the North West. During that time, forecasters would attempt to bring in an end from the South West, but the cold was too firmly ensconced for that, but admittedly there were not the same aids for forecasting in those days.
Can't understand why no name gor this storm they are saying between 50 and 55 mph in sandwell West Midlands but no weather warnings don't they learn nothing from storm Darragh when we only had a yellow warning and had 60 mph plus and thousands of trees down i think Xmas day will be mild but nothing recorded breaking promerly 10 all 11 c
So far December has been about 1 centergrade above average in Rowley Regis West Midlands we have had quite a few cold days but rhe milder days have go the average higher
