Happened to get interested today in how taxi dance halls made ends meet, since a song usually lasts 3 minutes or more. Turns out at the start of WWII, tickets were 12 1/2 cents each, or 8 for a dollar. The band would trim the songs to one minute each, so in theory the girls could pull in $7.50 an hour. This made more sense, since management had to cover the hall, the girls and two bands, etc. A dime a dance was the price in the 1920s, with half the ticket price going to the dancer. In 1990, one hall charged 35¢ a minute, with refreshments like soda, coffee and microwave popcorn extra. There was an entrance fee of $3, and girls made most of their money in tips while chatting at tables. Such places were popular with lonely immigrants.
Good episode. These hold up pretty well and I enjoy them. Thanks
WOW this is the best episode of Suspense I've heard yet! Lucy is fantastic... as usual!
That was fun. Lucille Ball a treat.
An outstanding tale.
Extra great...old suspenseful radio show and Lucille Ball. Thank you for sharing these terrific old shows!
Cornell Woolrich was one of the best crime noir writers

Listened 6.5.2023 - One of my least favorite episodes. Thank goodness Lucy had TV to fall back on! There was no suspense! 😂
