Report of my Re-visit. After a short recce a few months earlier in May, which saw workmen and dog handler security on-site,
a recent internet urbex forum report gave the green light for another attempt, once inside the perimeter fence it was still quite difficult to work out where any entry points were past the fencing that surrounds the sites buildings. A bit of ingenuity and a little climbing found me inside the inner sanctum, i had seen many photo reports so i already knew what to expect to see, it was still a real thrill to explore in the late afternoon sunshine that was slowly turning the rusting metal machinery & buildings into something quite beautiful. It must have been fantastic when first abandoned, although the view from the top of the silo is still magnificent,

History:
A greyish, mineral-rich clay, fuller's earth is well-known for its absorbent qualities and has many uses ranging from powder cosmetics to 'mud' used for drilling oil wells. Its best known use however is as cat litter, of which millions of bags are sold every year. Most of this is now imported from the Americas but until recently, fuller's earth was quarried from the Lower Greensand strata at Woburn (Beds.), at Baulking (Oxon.) and at Redhill (Surrey). On the Redhill deposit, the most successful quarry operating at the turn of the century was the Copyhold Works of the Fuller's Earth Union Ltd
established c.1860-70. Initially supplying the woolen trade, demand later shifted to the growing chemical and comodity sector with customers in the 1920s-40s
including the Southern Oil Company Ltd, British Glues and Chemicals Ltd and Price’s Patent Candle Co.
In 1954 the works, by now employing 780 men, were bought by chemical company Laporte Industries.
Production was stepped up to meet increasing demand and a large factory consisting of kilns, granulators, blungers, silos and transit systems on several
floors was built.
A large quarry existed to the east and in the 1970s this strange landscape stood in for various alien worlds in the BBC’s Doctor Who series.
In the 1980s, the Copyhold site was sending loose earths and packaged cat litter around the world.
By 1995, however, due to falling profits it was announced that the company would close 10% of its 100 plants.
Copyhold fell victim the following year and the Laporte Group ceased fuller’s earth production altogether in 1997.
After the production lines were switched off, the 119 acre pit was purchased for use as a landfill site by Biffa Waste Services and continues to take waste from across Surrey.
The factory was for a while used as a waste transfer station but this was abandoned at some time in the last four years.

My dad was plant manager of this plant.. I have vivid childhood memories of being parked in one of the control rooms with a hard hat on, looking at all the dials and switches.. Under strict orders to not touch anything!
Although doing as I was told didn't come naturally to me, I didn't ever touch the buttons!
nice video and nice background audio!! feels like watching a game where your walking in a mission and you are not sure what your going to find.

Worked there many decades ago. Had a nice little camp set up in one of the derelict office blocks.

Great explore! Was a very huge operation in its day I have read on line. I have seen some pictures before of the inside of this place I believe in 2010 don't remember by who may have been you.But really nice in depth tour you did here. Thanks for taking me along! I really enjoyed the tour.
Lynn Moore I Have only been into urbex since april this year, and as this has been derelict for 17 yrs just about every urbexer that's worth his salt has been through there at one time or another, i always arrive a little late to the party...i missed many great explores! & as this is on my doorstep i thought it rude not to! i hope it was worth showing whats left of this giant carcass, hope to bring many more to the channel, you are going to love my next video explore...watch this space!......Thanks Lynn for watching & sharing, commenting.

went here nit to long ago, no security at all and not as many building work walls anymore, changed quite a bit since this vid was filmed, and theres no tires at the entrance

That view from the top towards the end made me a bit dizzy. Looks a bit dangerous, but great view.
LOL, I had to laugh when the pigeons flew by. They're always around when you explore - I think they like you, haha :)
brian heidel I Needed a cure for vertigo...all the walkways were well fenced in with railings to hold onto even the top bit, so i felt safe all the time, apart from a few gaps in the flooring! lol i have just had an incredible explore and didn't see one pigeon!...so they are not that keen although i almost stepped on a Fox though 8-).....Thanks for looking & commenting
I work at the widnes site that was laporte. It is now run by altana. We still make earths and buisness is quite good
nutter for walking on it lolol haha that is the trick dont look down... i got on the first level n was bricking it ..went on my own tho .. looks like your on your own too
I went there and some guy was shooting pigeons really fun tho cos me and some friends fully explored it and also we found a nuse or what people got hanged with hanging from one of the cat walks and at the end of the day we sat up on the big white silo tower thing and had lunch
And we when into the school part and went on the roof 😂😀

I had a friend who worked there .it was used in margarine and cat litter .and outhers cosmetic s ....filmed a few doctor who episodes there as well ....

i went there at 11 am to 6:30 pm and explores the whole thing with my friends, we got some amazing photos and there seemed to be no guards?
Ollie Barrell no Gard’s they normally come at 4 PM but last time I went (1 January 2018) they had boarded the place up so me and my other mate had to climb up the fence but there is no entry now
DOE GANG Hello, I went around May and there was a fence. However there was a hole which I went through to get inside. I'm gonna miss this place, apparently they are going to demolish it and also they will change it into a housing estate
AJMakesVids yes that is right it was supposed to be demolished in September it’s been 2 months and still there. There has been security and demolition team there since August I have spoken to some people that go to the factory and I have been told that the security and demolition team haven’t been visiting the site the past month.

Landie Man thought it was 1995?
I explored this with 2 other friends about 2 months ago, (march 2016) and we ran into 2 people up on that tower who we talked to and we stupidly told them where we came in. We proceeded to leave but of course they knew where we would leave so we had to climb over a fence to go and we ended up on a 2-3 hour run away from them (we saw they had knives earlier on) and yeah...u can enter from the road btw! Do not go here alone, or even in a small group at night. If you're under 18 like we were also do not go...we were lucky there were only 2, if there was more then they could of defo caught us!
We stood in some of the exact places u stood! and that landfill is near where we had to go! cause we went the wrong way...
+Sean Bonney The way that place has been treated over the years, speaks volume's for the local community & the few inbred's that spoil everything without a care. sounds like you had a lucky escape....i would have phoned for back up before leaving, if i felt threatened with knives, trespassing or not! take care Sean:)
if u say so LOL... this is like "heartland" the tv show.. not brixton .. went on my own was calm as fuck even met the neighbours... dont even think the area has rudeboys haha ..took few hrs to find i must say hahaha went threw some tonk farm etc to get there :( twaty me.

Wonderful but too risky & dangerous I reckon.
Not a risk anymore, so probably a good thing, this site has all been reclaimed by the developers.
