If u say our New Year u r referring to the modern (Gregorian) calendar. Chinese New Year is based on Lunar (moon) calendar which is older than the modern calendar we are using..

Chinese New Year is also called the Spring Festival and you can see that if you just look at the calendar the date of the Spring Festival is different from year to year but every year it falls at the beginning of spring
