Honestly, as much as it sucks, I’m pretty grateful for the IB. It stands out as a high-school program and I would say it’s very good at preparing you for college. Some tips for students joining the IB tho: 1) Be open and transparent with your teachers about EVERYTHING from DAY 1. Don’t let your pride take over you. It’ll save you a ton of trouble down the road 2) If you don’t really like a lesson, I don’t care what your coordinator says, DO NOT TAKE IT! I just finished the November exams (I graduate may 23). I missed the 7 in math AA HL (one of the hardest IB courses) for 1% and got a 4 in italian ab initio because my coordinator thought my program was too tough and I needed an “easy lesson”, so he gave me italian (I hate learning languages but didn’t disagree at the time). On that note, do some research before choosing courses, and if you feel like you need to change a course, do it early on. 3) Don’t take computer science. Seriously, it’s the only course with an IA that makes the EE look easy. On a serious note, the IA is ridiculously hard and annoying, and I’ve never seen a course ask for CS. The lesson isn’t particularly fun either. You barely code and just regurgitate stuff from the text book 4)Just have fun! If you choose the right subjects, sure it’s gonna be a lot of work, but you’ll seriously enjoy it as well. My math course is my hardest course, but it’s also the only course (besides the mandatory ones, obv) in my program that I would keep if I could make it over
Hi I just finished my IGCSEs and know I have to decide whether I stay at my school and do A levels or change to a school that offers IB and at first I was thinking about taking in but know I have seen the courses that I would have to pick and originally I wanted to take chemistry, physics and biology plus maths but I noticed that all 3 subjects are in the same group so does that meant that I have to choose between one of them and then have to do other subjects like economics, English literature and French bc those are subjects I really have no interest in
@@Vera018 keep doing A-levels. They’re respected equally with the IB, even more than the IB in the UK, and are A LOT EASIER. Everyone from my cohort that I asked agreed that given the chance, they’d have done A-levels instead of IB

I am thinking for a long time if I should quit the IB program. What does it give me? In college? Does it really worth my time? I find myself do nothing but IB homework. I feel so trapped. Does it worth it? Does it?
Shira idk if this helps but in my opinion if you don’t want to go to a school outside of your country DROP OUT! if you do want to go to a school outside your country STAY.
If u do well in the diploma it saves u money in college because they give u credit for the courses u took. Different universities have different credit policies. I know that with an IB diploma in Towson university u can enter as a freshman but be given sophomore status. This means u graduate with a bachelors degree in 3 years and essentially save one year worth of tuition. Now, this doesnt Include college credits u may or may not have taken, which can also fasten ur graduation in uni
I’ve been in the IB program since 7th grade (6th as well if you were to count CFE) but although my school is an IB school they do go into depth about it as much. so thank you.
@@kritixonmobile i’d say definitely don’t wait until the last minute to do your IA’s and your extended essay. Look at example papers for your IA’s and EE’s!! 11th is much more easier than 12th. If you want to get ahead of the curve start ur ee during summer. from october to end of february senior year it will be very difficult but other than that there’s nothing much to worry about. the personal project is not that serious, so if you haven’t done it don’t stress. i did mine in 2 days.
I don't think I would have done the IB program if I could do it over. Yes it definitely makes college classes easier, but the burnout, stress and absolute wreck of mental health endured those 2 years was not worth it. I don't know about other countries but in India? You have to be extremely wealthy to send your kid to IB. You must also be well educated yourself to understand the kid's train of thoughts. Open-mindedness being one of them. The amount of time you spend for your kid's education is INSANE. Its like you are studying with them. You need to buy them the materials and search for stuff within a specific amount of time. These problems will not occur in any other board except in IB and probably IGCSE. The cost of just buying all that on top of the probably 3-4 Lakhs in just school fee will put a huge dent in your bank account. You need to keep up with your kid or they will just leave you behind. Already there is a generation gap. We don't need an ideals gap as well. I think CBSE or even ICSE is good enough. Consider IB if you are looking into joining any Uni in foreign countries. India has only a handful of Unis which will accept ur IB diploma. The exams of IB and the other boards of India's just don't match at all. Most Uni's won't accept a predictable score, Even if you bribe them with a truck load of money.
I go to the IB school in Stockton CA , I'm 6th grade but have 8 classes like everyone else. Things here really don't work like regular schools theres no popular kids or the school nerds because everyone hangs out with each other no matter the gender of sexuality. I'm currently finishing my CONFRENCE LETTER which is really fricking boring but what can you do. I swear design class is the hardest class for me. But overall I like the school the only down call for me is that there no playground what probably doesn't really matter to the older kids but was a real bummer when I started school here in Kindergarden. 😊
Hi Ivy Lilia, I have a quick question about exams - do you take all your SL and HL exams at the end of your senior year in May, or do you take your SL exams at the end of your junior year in May and then your HL exams at the end of senior year?
Hi! It depends on the school/IB program. I personally took two of my SL exams after my first year, but I've heard that this is pretty rare. Assume that you'll take all your exams at the end of your senior year, but check with your program!

So I'm thinking on transferring to an IB school near me which btw, is WAY better than the current school I'm zoned to. Plus, it's recognized nationally and is an exemplary school. Due to the extreme stress AP and IB students experienced there, they have lowered the workload and have stopped ranking students who aren't in the top 10%. I know that taking IB will take up a lot of my time (plus I'm joining their debate probably, which is in top 10 in USA) and that it will be extremely hard. Do you think I should transfer for the IB program, or would it not be worth all of the stress?
Try it and if you feel as though it is too much then drop it, it'll be worth having the experience of being in the IB program then regretting never doing so.
I've been curious about educational curriculums and wondered what IB was actually like for someone doing it... needless to say it doesn't sound very different from standard school curriculums, still highly standardized and based on tests instead of allowing for individual freedom.
No. It allows a lot of freedom. To choose subjects, and u do everything practically. Otherwise ur school wont be an IB school if they dont teach everything in a playway or practical way
I'm doing ib and it's literally the opposite. I have to memorize much less than what I did other years and you have absolute freedom on time management and IA and EE topics. The tests are standardized, obviously, because otherwise, they'll be no way of marking everyone's paper in a fair way if every school has its own criteria/interpretations
I have a question on the diploma. Do we need to take 1 IB class in each of the 6 categories in order to earn the diploma? Or can we take any 3HL and 3 SL and still earn the diploma?
Yes, I believe that you have to take 1 class form each group. However the arts group is optional, you can switch that slot to another class in science of IS
ok so I just started IB and in TOK they showed us a graph about politics and I started talking about politics and the teacher said nonononono you're supposed to be talking about graphs

@@iltakis7501 It's better to use windows if you're doing CS as that is what people use in the real world. Mac is just as good for coding (better in some places) but the experience you get using windows is more important for the real world.
These comments from a few years ago are starting to convince me not to quit Here's the thing, I don't know what I want for my future, is it sad to say I kind of just stumbled my way into the IB program? I hadn't done my research (my bad, but I was in the 8th grade) and decided that it sounded like a good idea because schools might like it I've only done pre-ib which is basically academic I think and am failing math, barely passing my second language and still spending a lot more of my time than I'm used to just doing homework. People say to do it if you want to go out of your country and tbh, I don't know if I do. I'm also thinking if I can barely handle what would be academic, how am I meant to handle the actual program giving college level courses?? I do understand the IB program gives valuable skills and prepares people for college/uni but if I can't pass high school how am I meant to go to college? I'm just feeling very lost as of the moment (failing math also isn't doing well to my emotions and confidence)

Hello, if anyone has any useful information and tips on how to excel in the IB Programme grades 9-12, if you could reply to me and tell me anything I need to know that would be fantastic. I am currently in grade 8 and going to transfer to IB in grade 9.
hi, im currently in 11th grade and this was my first year having full ib. im planning to do another full course of ib for senior year as well. seeing as i've finished a few ia's already and have seen a lot of what ib has had to offer, i have a few tips: -make. friends. i have no idea how else someone could make it through ib if you don't have at LEAST a group of acquaintances. you cannot finish work without sacrificing time and sleep, so if you would like to keep some of that, keep a few classmates close to trade answers with and get guidance from with assignments. support & back-up is the absolute most helpful thing to have. -time management is so important no matter how many ib classes you're taking. i have had my ass saved so many times because past me thought to do an assignment or two early so i could have the rest of my time prepping for my other work. -speaking of ia's, take your downtime during break/weekends to brainstorm and mentally prep for them. i was launched into my bio ia right after winter break and i slightly regret not thinking more about a topic, though i did pull through in the end. -bullshit a lot of things. i'm going to guess you're proficient in english if you're entering ib in 9th, so get ready to type out paragraphs of absolute nonsense (make it overall coherent of course, but never be afraid to add length to some things to reach that word count). they make you do ia's for math, which.. are ridiculous. i didn't have ib math this year, but they had my friends filling up pages with strings of formulas and so many words. WORDS for a math assignment. -get adjusted to word, powerpoint, EXCEL if you haven't already. make practice spreadsheets and learn how to create charts. it'll help you a lot. wish i knew that before i had to use excel especially. -look up videos and examples for ia's and ib coursework. reddit has a plethora of old ib students who had great scores and still kept their work for you to look at. -be communicative with your teachers and your counselor the whole process. maybe they won't round your grade this time, but if you're nice and appeal to them enough, it can make a lot of the stress melt away (basically just. be nice to your teachers. doesn't hurt) good luck! it's definitely challenging so don't suppress any frustrations & just take the punches as you can.
Hmm you should try, did you? I heard it’s a loooot of work and that you need to balance your time management well. But since you’ve been getting a’s, that’s a good boost. I’m a sophomore and thinking of doing IB next year so I’m pretty scared too 😬
Miss Lilia, I am recently studying in 10th std and filling my application form for UWC, may you please tell me more about the rules of IB, if possible?
So hold on...the teacher makes a selection of projects (not necessarily yours) and sends them off to a board. The board then "moderates" grades including yours using this material? If this is valid it just made our decision of IB vs AP easy. There is no way I want my daughter's marks moderated by someone else's work or lack thereof.
They don't moderate your marks based on someone else's work per se, but, rather, how your teacher marks an assignment and if that coheres to how the IB would have marked it. If there's a discrepancy across multiple assignments/grades, then all are moderated to reflect the teacher's variation in grading from the IB standard. It's a method of standardization, not penalization.
@@IvyLilia Thank you so much for this video. We ended up doing a deep dive into IB moderation and we decided that we would turn down our daughter's spot in the IB program. We were on the fence, but this really really helped make our decision. AP is definitely a better choice overall for our daughter. Thank you again!
aight so i understood everything well... and then the end came with the rulesss. (had to play in slow motion lmfao) but That really scared me. Anyways your video really helped so THANK YOUUUUU!
It would be but IB also makes you do the CAS and the extended essay which makes it harder and colleges in US actually look for people taking harder things
Louiß Bü Idk how it is over where you are, but in my school (in the US), our IAs for our SL classes are due around March of our Junior year and around March for our HL classes. We start our EE the beginning of junior year and it’s due March of our senior year. TOK essay is given to us September of our Senior year and is due around March. So basically, March is our deadline. Mind sharing how the ib program is like for you so far?
@@mysterybob2050 yeah i’d love to know too
Sometimes I'm confused if IB is hard or im just lazy to study or both...
Honestly, as much as it sucks, I’m pretty grateful for the IB. It stands out as a high-school program and I would say it’s very good at preparing you for college. Some tips for students joining the IB tho:
1) Be open and transparent with your teachers about EVERYTHING from DAY 1. Don’t let your pride take over you. It’ll save you a ton of trouble down the road
2) If you don’t really like a lesson, I don’t care what your coordinator says, DO NOT TAKE IT!
You barely code and just regurgitate stuff from the text book
4)Just have fun! If you choose the right subjects, sure it’s gonna be a lot of work, but you’ll seriously enjoy it as well. My math course is my hardest course, but it’s also the only course (besides the mandatory ones, obv) in my program that I would keep if I could make it over
Me seeing this comment one year into CS 💀💀

If ur low income, it’s definitely worth ur time bc u would save urself a year of college tuition and reduce ur debt that can take years to pay off.
This helped a lot! Trying to decide between IB and normal, going with normal...

I don't think I would have done the IB program if I could do it over. Yes it definitely makes college classes easier, but the burnout, stress and absolute wreck of mental health endured those 2 years was not worth it. I'd only consider it if I was 100% going to go to a university in a different country
hi! would it be possible for you to make a video on how to decide what topics to write about in our IA/EE? thank you so much for your videos they’re very clear and useful!💗💗
this definitely helped so much! im thinking to go to IB in grade 9 and going to do the entry test. I will definitely apply if i pass!
Thank uuuu very much like really thank u
Ivy Lilia it’s the same for me as well. We take our SL tests at the end of that year, and then we take our HL classes at the end of our Senior year
So, today my exam results announced that I will go to Ib next term. I am pretty excited!
I’m in grade 7 about to be going to summer vacation!
The tests are standardized, obviously, because otherwise, they'll be no way of marking everyone's paper in a fair way if every school has its own criteria/interpretations
i love watching this and realizing that in a week i'm graduating
for those who feel like taking ib: DO NOT TAKE LATIN I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE LATIN

I have a question on the diploma. Do we need to take 1 IB class in each of the 6 categories in order to earn the diploma? Or can we take any 3HL and 3 SL and still earn the diploma?
Yes, I believe that you have to take 1 class form each group. However the arts group is optional, you can switch that slot to another class in science of IS
ok so I just started IB and in TOK they showed us a graph about politics and I started talking about politics and the teacher said nonononono you're supposed to be talking about graphs
Even though Im not in the ib yet I'm definitely planning on going into the ib because it could definitely help with trying to get into a college/universtiy
I only have one IB class that's math ( afraid to take more before but now regretting)🙄
It's really not worth it unless you're some god level genius. I'm in my first year of the diploma program and I haven't gotten more than six hours of sleep in one night in the past two weeks.
Box V5 Six hours? Lol I take ib and play hockey. I rely on about 3-5 hours of sleep everyday and that’s if I don’t have to study.

These comments from a few years ago are starting to convince me not to quit
Here's the thing, I don't know what I want for my future, is it sad to say I kind of just stumbled my way into the IB program? I hadn't done my research (my bad, but I was in the 8th grade) and decided that it sounded like a good idea because schools might like it
I've only done pre-ib which is basically academic I think and am failing math, barely passing my second language and still spending a lot more of my time than I'm used to just doing homework.

Hello, if anyone has any useful information and tips on how to excel in the IB Programme grades 9-12, if you could reply to me and tell me anything I need to know that would be fantastic. I am currently in grade 8 and going to transfer to IB in grade 9.
hi, im currently in 11th grade and this was my first year having full ib. im planning to do another full course of ib for senior year as well. seeing as i've finished a few ia's already and have seen a lot of what ib has had to offer, i have a few tips:
-make. friends. i have no idea how else someone could make it through ib if you don't have at LEAST a group of acquaintances. you cannot finish work without sacrificing time and sleep, so if you would like to keep some of that, keep a few classmates close to trade answers with and get guidance from with assignments. support & back-up is the absolute most helpful thing to have.
-be communicative with your teachers and your counselor the whole process. maybe they won't round your grade this time, but if you're nice and appeal to them enough, it can make a lot of the stress melt away (basically just. be nice to your teachers. doesn't hurt)
good luck! it's definitely challenging so don't suppress any frustrations & just take the punches as you can.
im a freshman and i cant decide if i wanna do IB, i have all a's right now. but im scared of failure.... should i do it?
Hmm you should try, did you? I heard it’s a loooot of work and that you need to balance your time management well. But since you’ve been getting a’s, that’s a good boost. I’m a sophomore and thinking of doing IB next year so I’m pretty scared too 😬
I feel bad for watching this in senior year...

But isn't an AP class also a college-level course, so wouldn't it have an equivalence of an HL?
It would be but IB also makes you do the CAS and the extended essay which makes it harder and colleges in US actually look for people taking harder things

At my school, 3 IAs, EE and TOKE are all due before Christmas...
Everything is due then.
