Was really looking forward to watching this because of the title. Figured I could learn something to help with my public land hunting..... Had nothing to do with the title other than the hype at the beginning.......
I lucked out last week during archery. I have a small 3 acre spread where my back yard goes into a bowl with 2 natural spring fed creeks one in each side of the bowl. They use this bowl as a transition area from feeding and does like to bed there. I’ve also had several small bucks bedding there with lots of scrapes but the other night a half hour before sundown I went out with the crossbow . I jumped three does in the way in and they ran into the bowl. I decided to turn and walk around the base of the bowl and come up to my stand from the bottom side. The wind was in my face coming from the bottom of the bowl so I decided to get on my stand. I also ran to the stand about 50 yards to make some noise to see if any curious deer would come investigate. Sure enough within ten minutes I heard noise on the trail below me. Thought it was squirrels but I heard a stick break which no squirrel could have done then I heard some heavy stomps. I watched intently and finally during last visible light a six pointer broke out and I heard another behind him lingering. The six started coming my way but looked nervous and stopped. He ended up walking 20 yards back the trail and broke out up the hill behind me. I heard the other one coming and knew it had to be a bigger one because usually the little one is working point. My patience paid off and a big 8 point broke out and followed the six up the hill. I had to get on the edge of my seat and turn my whole body around the tree and make sure my crossbow limbs would clear the tree trunk when I shot. I let out a grunt and the big boy stopped. I nailed a perfect heart shot and he ran down hill 30 yards and leaped the path which was on a small ravine. I think he was dead before he hit the ground because I watched him jump then crash.....nothing. I found him laying right where he landed piled up. What an awesome 15 minute archery hunt . He weighed over 200 lbs and was very tough to drag out of that ravine and up a 150 yard steep hill but I was able to get him to the processor before they closed up shop. I took a small six point two weeks prior ....same scenario. The little guy out front but I shot that six because the one behind him I couldn’t see and he never came out of the thicket. I should have waited him out but I saw him stop when I raised my crossbow slowly so I got the six with an epic heart shot through a small 12” window through trees and vines. Gotta love an accurate excalibur.
I appreciate the videos and the advice, but DAMN! can you tone down the obnoxious "music" noise in front of what you are trying to say. I used to hunt the sandhills and the platte river area. Always good hunts.
45 hours and your tired already? My god some of these guys on these shows really have no clue what it's truly liking for the average hunter on 5-40 acres

None of this "I'm in a wood lot, with a corn field 300yds behind me" crap. You so called pros have big talk, I guarantee I could put you pros in some public land spots that would have you crying, and not harvesting a 3 1/2 yr old bucks. I enjoy D&DH, but there is a lot of big talking, and not any walking, its okay to fail, lets see it.

My point is all the big talk Steve Bartylla was saying about killing 3 1/2 yr olds on public land. I'm saying lets see some hunts, lets see the conditions, the surroundings, all the factors that went in to these public land harvested 3 1/2 yr old bucks. The majority of the tags sold in many states are to people who hunt public/state grounds. These working class tag holders are the "meat and potatos" behind most states game control/population. They are giving mainly false hope to most hunters, and at the same time injecting sales ads into the populous. I want to see results, not talk. I like watching real people on youtube, going on real hunts, shooting what they want, and is legal, or failing for that matter. At least I know it wasnt just big boasted talk. Thats all...

dave Kamala's indeed! I must say, it does take hard work, to consistently harvest mature bucks, no doubt. It helps to live close to the hunting area, for scouting and stuff. It takes dedication and time and $$$ LOL
go for a drive in the afternoons and glass. and check to see who might own properties and ask for permission. it doesn't get any easier than hunting in Saskatchewan, you are in deer heaven. what area are you in?

The best way to hunt a deer is to put some corn or a salt lick on your property and wait for the deer to show up. This will happen even if you live in the inner city. I have seen deer cross a main street. Mostly at night. The same with racoons,rabbits,squirrels. Hunting is right outside your front door. No matter where you live. Believe it or not,

I've seen Deer walk out on an open gun range here in Virginia, Montgomery County. And I've seen what many hunters do to deer. They may kill the deer for it's backstrap or hind quarters and discard the rest to the side of the road. Each year I see 👀more and more carcasses discarded this way.

i had venison n eggs yesterday n I can tell you sex, size makes no great contribution to flavor; It's flavor regardless. therefore this fascination some have with huge bucks proves nothing. Around here these peasants respect no limits plus its obvious 2,3 deer are just as tasty as a rough tissued grandpa.

Wish there were some videos like this focused on the South, Alabama for specific. Hunting in the South is NOTHING like the Midwest farmlands.

Yes you can buy what if a family member hit this crossing animal and severely injured......not really worth it is it?
