Abandoned Military Truck and Cabin Deep in the Canadian Woods | Destination Adventure

- 1944 Canadian right hand drive Chevrolet military truck, found in the remote forest of British Columbia. The first time I saw this truck was about ten years ago, and at that time I believe it had been sitting in that exact location for decades already. It is remarkable how little rust and how little change there has been, but I suppose things were just built that tough for the military.
The truck looks small now, but it has actually sunk a fair bit into the ground, and of course the tires are all gone now. The engine is still in the truck, minus the head, and the rest of the drivetrain is complete. All in all, it is a very neat piece of history sitting out there, and a vehicle that is far from a common discovery. There has been a lot of logging in this area over the years, so I am guessing that provided the road infrastructure to get a truck into this location, though today there is barely a hint of a trail. I believe the cabin is an old trappers cabin, but that has also sat vacant and abandoned now for decades.
Horsefly lake is a beautiful place to spend a little time and do some exploring, and I was delighted to meet some great local fans while in the area.

The truck is a WW2 era Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) truck. Commonly known as the Ford or Chevrolet Blitz here in Australia. The one in the video is a Ford due the flathead V8, Chevys had a straight 6.
Came here to comment so someone could know but you beat me too it
Came here to post, but you nailed it. The old flathead was a dead giveaway.
Looks like about a 55 Chevy ?😊
At 4:21😊
@@rickreese5794Yep, looks like it
I was actually in that truck when it was in really nice shape, that cabin is called Gun Smoke cabin and is the site of the largest grizzly being shot in the Cariboo by the owner of the cabin at the time, Clifford E Carlson, after it stalked him for days on end.I have a cabin a few kms from there and have been on the lake for 55 years
Wow, what a small world!
Hey Mr B. What kinds of sport fish are there in that lake? Best spot for catching & release?
I know this is your life, but for us unable to see these beautiful places in person, there are no words. Thank you. ♥️♥️♥️
Thanks so much for coming along on the adventure 😊
Dave’s the man! The free beers in the boat is an awesome find! God bless Dave
🍻
Dave hopefully started a tradition...?
"The Shook Up Hidden Boat Beer Destination Adventure challenge" ?!
I’m in for hiding beer in the boat if I see it
Shout out to Dave. Legendary move brother.

I can’t express in words how much I enjoy this channel. I live vicariously through it! I’m ashamed to say that a part of me is afraid to travel because of the state of humanity.
Where he is traveling the only thing you need to fear is nature.
Once you get out of the City , the goodness in humanity is abundant - no worries. Do it or curl up in your bubble and die.
@@thereissomecoolstuff And you really don't need to fear nature...just respect it.
@@metaxaanabeer If a grizzly is after you it’s going to take more than respect. Notice Dustin doesn’t tent camp.
@@thereissomecoolstuff I'm not sure how to respond to this. Obviously you have not watched much of Dustin's adventures, his close work with bears is legendary and gripping video. Me? For 30+ years we have tent camped all over northern Vancouver Island (home), northern BC, Northwest Territories and Yukon and not once had a bad outcome with any bear, despite seeing many. Our record was 11 in one day on the Cassiar Highway, northern BC. You have trouble with bears at places like Yellowstone where folks feed them, leave garbage around, etc. Come up north, real true north and you will find very little bear/human interaction because we tend to respect the bears, the land and our place in it.
I found the Cletrac crawlers were built by Oliver, and after White purchased Oliver, they stopped production Cletrac in 1967.
The Cleveland Tractor Company was it's own entity prior to Oliver purchasing them. Many of their smaller crawlers had gas engines. Many made by Hercules.
Great video! My five year old and I watch your videos any chance we can. We enjoy the travel , boating and history lessons- you make us laugh too. He wanted to say hey- Leeeets whip itt!
Dustin’s smile is a little wider and he has a twinkle in his eye. Thanks Emmy for the obviously making our man happy. I enjoyed your beautifully edited video today.
I can’t believe I am the first person from Horsefly to comment. Man I miss that place. Spent many many hours on that lake in the summer and in those mountains in the winter. It’s was an awesome evening watch while I sit in the desert at 40C.
Met some great folks when I was there 😊
Oh yes I bet!!! It’s an amazing community. I am looking forward to a few days there this summer hopefully
It's nice to have a friend to go along with you. Not just your friends on U tube.

Another Fantastic Adventure Dustin
13:57 I believe that is a 1943 C13 or a C15 CMP Truck (Canadian Military Pattern) built in Oshawa Ontario they were built by both Ford & Chevy, with slight differences between them.
A really nice warm up for Emmie…This is going to be an amazing season .Nice test run for the rig and boat. They seem to have pasted all the tests. Very excited for you both to hit the road.
As always thank you …..for doing what you love ❤
British 15 CWT Truck. WW2 era. Nice find!!
Good Morning Dustin!! You really know how to capture that landscape. Just beautiful. Safe travels.
The countryside in British Columbia is just outstanding. Thanks for taking us along.
They probably used the truck to bring in supplies etc over the lake ice in winter.
The Swellfish boogies now. When it warms up you could ski or tube behind it. Thanks for another great episode Dustin. Now get the heater going and warm Emmy up. 🤭👍

I lived in horsefly for probably 14-15 years my parents still live out there kinda crazy seeing little horsefly on TH-cam lol great video !!!! And love seeing you around Williams lake
Noooo your new jacket! Just put the bibs on and jump in the lake, that'll clean it up lol
Looks like it did its job out there on the lake in that cold wind.
Another great adventure Dustin, we can't wait to see what the summer adventurers bring you!
Nice and warm 😊
I like it when you get the Swellfish out! Great music as well. Thanks Dustin!
Archie creek is a place that I am very familiar with. He mentioned the cabin at Archie Creek and how it Hadn’t been disturbed. Unfortunately it has. People Have picked over it and taken stuff away. There used to be some cool Traps hanging on the wall of the cabin. One of the comments mentioned the fact that the owner of the cabin had shot a very large grizzly. My dad was one of the first people to find him after that ordeal. He had been trapped in the cabin for three days and was very happy when my dad and his friend stopped by. Would have been around 1965.
So good to see you out in the wild again this season Dustin. Ans I'm very glad Emmy is with you to take what she can in. You two be careful
Another great video Dustin .caribou country the rugged beauty is all around ❤️👍
So big question, with the world changing and we in North America (Canada, US and Mexico) have to become more self-reliant with supply chains etc. Many of these places visited could once again become populated for natural resources. While one side of me feels "keep these for future generations" the other side of me feels "this is why many places have been protected for times like the current"
Would it be tragic or a good thing if many of these places became populated again?
Just a thought is all
My personal opinion is, we never should've outsourced so much as it really hurt the people the most.
As always I love your adventures.
Are you teaching Emi how to run the boat? Never know when she might have to do it on her own.
Morning beers while camping is the way too go !!! 🍻
We call that a barley sandwich.
You live a good life, my friend. I used to do a lot of stuff like this with my dad, but I lost him in 2018 to cancer and you know what it really hasn’t been the same. Me and him would go on a lot of adventures finding old trucks, cabins, fishing ponds you name it, and I truly miss it.
Your videos bring a lot of joy to people keep it up🤘
Thank you for enjoying. I’m sorry for your loss, be sure to get out and enjoy twice as much for both.
Alway look forward to you new adventures, as a long time ago resident of Puntzi lake your channel inspired me to revisit there after a 60 year absence, brought back long forgotten memories, thank you
Love Puntzi Lake and area , and the pelicans - unbelievable.
I’ve got that same outboard motor, I’m always impressed just how easy you make it look lifting that 100+ pound motor around! Oh, and that boat ain’t light either!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support.
Every Kokanee can has a tiny Sasquatch in the mountain scene, you got 6 ‘squatches’ right there in the boat with you!
Love the foray into the wilds with you
and Emmy,Dustin! You do take me back
to much simpler times!😊. Cheers,Sandy
Like everyone else words fail me at the moment but suffice it to say… I feel honored to be able to be a voyeur to your most magical life!! 🤗
Always look forward to Saturday mornings ,for some DA… I think I get more excited for Saturday mornings now than I did for Saturday morning cartoons as a child!!! LOL. Thank you for taking us along! And also for turning me on to new music… that last one about this younger generation making me feel old… I felt that! lol. ONWARD & UPWARD!! PS… love your new sidekick… Emi is a welcome addition! Tell her I felt the fridgedness too!! Bless her heart 🥶🩵
Thanks so much for the delightful comment. 😊
I always enjoy riding along on your journey's & love the drone shots of what beautiful world we live in. Keep them coming & safe travels always. More memories made for you two. Have fun
Your music selection is always on point. Excellent video dude!
To add to the comments about the truck: It is a Ford 15 Cwt (Hundred weight (3/4 ton)) cargo truck from about 1942. Canada built nearly 1 million of these robust vehicles in sizes from 1/2 ton 4x2, to 5 ton 6x6 in support of the war effort against Germany and Japan. The were right-hand drive due to a British War Ministry specification to allow commonality amongst all the Commonwealth countries that used them, including Canada (of course), Australia, Britain, New Zealand, South Africa, India and many others. After the war, tens of thousands of them were donated to war-torn countries in Europe and the Pacific Rim, such as Holland, Norway, Belgium, France, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Malaysia, etc. In Canada many more thousands were sold off surplus and were popular with farmers, loggers, construction and mining companies as well as tow truck companies.
Dollars to doughnuts it got there by driving across the ice in the winter.
P.S. the 'cigarette lighter' is actually where a work light can be plugged in to work on the engine.
Another amazing production! There hasn't been a show where I didn't use shazam to hear who's cool voice that was, in your music selection. Very cool.
i had tio breakfrom big screen to say for a canook ,im in bro, you had me at how you take care of your equiptment may your lord be on any journey peace out from new mex
while visiting my cousins cottage in 2012 on horse fly lake, we took the boat out to the falls. The military truck stuck way out there was intriguing, but the gold flakes out of the creek was more interesting.
Dustin you never disappoint your fellow viewers 👍 the Saturday morning coffee isn’t complete till I sit down and play your amazing videos . So happy to see Naomi your friend accompanying you on your travels 👌 I’ve been to Japan in the past it also has beauty but she must be in awestruck witnessing our provinces gorgeous landscape as well 🙏 thanks for sharing buddy 🍺🍺 cheers from Langley bc
Thank you very much.
With your video posting delay, I sure hope you got far enough north to be clear of the Ft Nelson wildfire. Fire storm season has started with a bang. Safe travels you two. 🤙🍁
Thanks Dustin, another great video and thanks Emmy as well. Your work helps me destress and relax, I have a big smile watching. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect Saturday morning video with my coffee. Love seeing you both travelling our beautiful country.
Sure is that's what i did loved it.
Thanks again Dustin, great one ,love the old towns, homesteads, so sad to see abandoned but understand.
That''s a (CMP) weapons carrier, right hand drive. a WW2 truck built by Ford and or Chev. They had hundreds of them stationed in NL during the war. You can still find them abandoned in Newfoundland, as they were used to run sawmills and carry saw logs out of the country. There were lots of old trucks left here after the war when the American bases closed in the 40's-60's.
I've seen Cletrac tractors before, but never one with a dozer blade. COOL!
Another great episode my friend
Another great episode! Thanks D & E!
Hello Dustin, I could post this on any one of your great videos, but I just want to record heartfelt appreciation for Destination Adventure. I live in the UK, but in 2005 I spent the best part of a year exploring BC and the Yukon in a very basic van. I went back again several times after that. I covered every paved road and a lot of the dirt ones too! Now I'm too poor and (probably) too old to do the stuff I did back then, so it is just such an affirming part of life to follow your channel. Of course, I didn't have a drone on my trips so that adds a huge dimension. I used to write a blog about my journeys, and have now written a novel set in BC (I worked for a spell in Ashcroft). Let me know if you'd like to be in touch.
Sounds like you had some great trips here. Thank you for enjoying the show. 😊
Thanks Dave!
❤ your videos are always excellent Dustin thank you. Drone work is always been fantastic.
🍻
Dave is an awesome dude.

Nice waterfalls, nature is so amazing. I enjoy watching those abandoned cabins and so. It s nice Emma is there, those places you visit are so isolated.
