Honestly this really helps! Our rent house has this in my bathroom’s walls, so nice to know I wasn’t just going crazy on not seemingly getting it clean
Thank you for being so upfront and informative. There's a lot of misinformation online about Travertine - if you are lucky enough to even know you have Travertine lol. We just bought a house with it in the shower and unfortunately the prior owners have damaged with the wrong cleaners. At this point I'm trying to not cause any further damage. Can you perhaps do a video on sealers?
I have travertine bathroom wall tiles and to clean the grout I found that using toothpaste and a toothbrush worked really well. Haven’t told the wife that it was her toothbrush yet
I have had a travertine shower for 16 years. I only use soft water in my home. Only had to clean it once, i sprayed it with TSP then used my power washer to wash it down. Then I let it dry for 48hrs and sealed it. That was 8 years ago. All it needs now is an occasional wipe down with dawn and a microfiber. It smells and looks great.
So really, the short answer is, YOU CAN’T CLEAN IT. I’m not against manual labor, but is one tile guy told me, “there is no reason to EVER use natural stone in a shower”. I concur. As a housekeeper, I’m trying to clean a shower that’s had no maintenance for 14 days. It’s virtually impossible, no it is impossible for me to get it clean. Sad!
I’m in agreement to just remove it if that’s an option. I have 2 awful Travertine showers to clean in my business and would LOVE if they would “devolve” back to a ceramic tub with those wonderful smooth fiberglass walls. Those were the days…….
Great video, what would you recommend to use on the shower glass of a travertine shower floor to get rid of soap scum without damaging the floor? A lot of videos recommend vinegar, dawn and water but I've read never to expose travertine to vinegar.
thanks great job! i thumbed it, my wife used a lysol gel paste cleaner for tubs/bowls, that penetrated our floor tavertine section with white /grey streaks, i heard using diamond polishing pads to remove the superficial layer streaks, than stone sealer would do the trick? any other method i can use, espically i dont have the diamond polishing tools/pads? thanks!
The stone eez did nothing. I even resorted to putting it directing on. I only had a grout brush and the green scrubby. Literally still looks white. I think it cleaned the stone, but what do I do about the white in the corners and along some of the grout lines?
daintydina, I also should mention that the shower needs to be sealed. I didn't mention it in the video. The Floors Guys sell the sealer as well. From that point, if you notice the 10 to 1 ratio of Stone Eez is breaking down that sealer then they sell a different product called Daily Eez. It's pH neutral so there is no way it will ever break down any type of sealer. You can use that instead as well.
Clean With Confidence my floor was not sealed and I have lived in the home for 4 years. Can I seal it after so many years? Frustrated because even after cleaning it has a white film on the surface.
@@CraftingwithDinna You can seal it anytime, you just have to make sure it get deep cleaned first. You have to keep natural stone sealed because it gets dirty in a hurry if you don't. That's why I mentioned in the video I don't know why anyone would want natural stone because it's alot of MAINTENANCE lol!!!
I just cleaned and regrouted my travertine shower and suddenly the tiles look very dull. Will resealing them make the tiles shiny again or will it just stop them from absorbing water?
Well shoot, I have been cleaning the travertine tiles in my shower for the last 6 months with CLR shower cleaner, which is acidic. (And my daughter was using Scrubbing Bubbles on the upstairs shower, same tiles. I’m not sure if that one is safe or not?) The house is 19 years old and we just moved in 6 months ago, so the travertine was definitely not my choice. The master bath has it around the tub, on the shower walls, and on the whole floor. The upstairs shower/tub has it on the walls. I can live with the travertine in the bathrooms, but they also used it on the kitchen countertops, backsplash, and island! 🙀🤯🫣 With light colored grout! 😢 I just got done doing a massive deep clean of the kitchen island… first with Comet soft cleanser with bleach (which says it can be used on porcelain, Corian, marble, and soapstone) and a grout brush. Then I followed that up with my handheld Bissell steam cleaner. That was just as effective, especially on the vertical edges that were too messy to use the soft Comet on, and much easier to wipe up. I did notice that there was a bit of light powder coming off with the steam - maybe from the grout?? I hope I didn’t damage anything, but it was driving me crazy to use it as a food prep surface with dirty grout and dirty pockets/crevices in the stone. Night and day difference now!
Yes because it is liquidity it tends to just run down the walls so it doesn’t work as well. I recommend put it in a foamer then spraying it on the walls. When it is in foam form it stays on the walls better👍
Will you please make a video on how to use microfiber cloths? I honestly don’t know how to clean with them. I’ve only used paper towels and occasionally those weirdo norwex cloths where you only use water. Microfiber is kind of a puzzle to me 🤷♀️ Do you treat them just like paper towels except you wash them afterward? I like to clean with diluted bleach, will that ruin the cloths?
Sure! Microfiber clothes are basically just an all-purpose cloth. I would avoid using them with strong chemicals like bleach but you can use them to dust and or with Dawn dish Soap as a cleaning cloth all day long! I recorded a video about how to wash them once they get dirty. You can find that video inside the channel.
I use cotton wool in long strips soaked in neat bleach pressed into the grout - it sticks - leave overnight the cotton wool dries but remains on the grout - collect up - mould is gone - only bleach kills the mould - can redo strips for the odd patch - even a few hours it works - also can buy cottonwood in thin strips in a big bag readymade for perming hair which saves time. Probably not the best way but after 10 years of trying everything else I’d rather risk a bit of discolour on the tiles than inhale mould spores - never ever would I choose natural stone again

What are your thoughts about Granite Gold for a cleaner on Travertine?

The grout-eez bottle specifically says do not use on natural stone.
Sorry I messed up. I bought the wrong product.
Yes there is Grout eez and Stone Eez. Stone esz is for natural stone.
