Thanks for doing this Peter. Any time in the future I'm feeling hesitant about justifying the need to spend more money on fishing, I'll rewatch this video!
Where I live, and doing coastal fishing with one hand rods (typically #6 or #7) many uses shooting heads and a mono runningline. Mainly to get distance and dealing with wind. It works :-)
I have a 9’6 lama glass graphite 2 piece fly rod looking to buy a full line I could fish trout or smallmouth any suggestions would be appreciated.can’t afford just to try lines thanks for all of your help in choosing the correct line for this rod .this. Is a older rod more parabolic than a new fast action.this is a 5 wt single handed
Hey Old Sport. Couldn't you have saved us all a lot of time and simply said use suitable knot connections as opposed to loops. Who uses loops anyway? Whatever you're fishing for, and whatever your setup, pre-tied loops are asking for trouble. Many thanks. Raymondo
Older rods are usually very comfortable with standard weight lines like the Airflo Elite, so if you were just fishing for trout I'd suggest a line like that. However you mentioned smallies as well, in which case you might want to go with a more general purpose, slightly overweight line to handle the larger flies we use for bass, yet still be able to cast dries for trout. For both trout and bass, I'd be thinking more like an Airflo Xceed line. Other manufacturers usually also provide a middle choice between the trout finesse line and a chunky bass line. Casting bass flies on a trout line can get iffy and casting small dries on a bass line wouldn't be a good idea. A line in the middle would work the best for both applications.

I am still rocking my LW4seven on my 6wt, hundreds of stripes and sea trout over decades.
Thank you I’ll look into that airflo is my favorite 2 handed line ,

I used to have an old rod that I built from a Lamiglas 10' 6" two piece blank. Loved the thing.
What is the line rating for that rod?

You'll have to clarify what you're referring to as when we're talking about loop-to-loop connections for shooting heads, there's no "pre-tied loops".
I vote .... Full Line !
This is a 5 wt
