Avril Lavigne announced to the crowd that she was dedicating the nights performance to her grandpa, who had passed away that very day.

17 years went by and still one of the best performances ever!
Pretty amazing that she still did the show and that she pushed through it and did that final song. Not everyone would have been able to do that, hell, most people in her situation probably would have called it off and not done the show. Gotta respect that.
Her granddad would’ve been really proud of her for doing the show

Being a Dubliner myself and a fan of Avril's since I was 13 this really hits me hard. The fact that she was in Dublin when she heard this tragic news but carried on playing to my home town (while clearly distraught and visibly crying) shows not only bravery but how much of a true musician she is, who won't let grief consumer her (at this time). That night was her time alone with her Irish fans, and she wasn't going to stop that. Serious credit to the girl.
I just realized this is the first time I've seen Avril cry real tears. Crazy seeing the true emotion in her face and performance vs what is put on for music videos and certain songs

I was in the audience that night it was such a kick to the gut but i have never had more respect for an artist. she played that whole show while devastated.

@@popsingerstar I was on the floor standing. She was originally supposed to be in a venue that held 1600 people it was moved to a venue for 10000 because the demand was huge.
@@colmp1892 cool. my grandpa died on march 26 two years ago from covid :’( he was the most religious guy i knew. he had a jesus license plate, a rosary hanging on his rear view mirror, a church music box with a priest figure that plays amazing grace, a plaque of the our father in his living room, a snow globe with a bible in it, a statue of mary on his porch & a crucifix with a palm next 2 a picture of Him in his room. i have seven aunts & uncles & he always said grace b4 we ate on holidays. he prayed at a chapel every thursday & went 2 church every sunday. when i said my prayers that night i asked god 2 give him the warmest welcome He possibly could 2 heaven & He definitely did. i bet he was ecstatic 2 meet him & gave Him the biggest hug ever. i still miss him & always will. he was with his nurse when he died. they prayed the rosary 2gether & he went peacefully. he & my grandma got divorced & he remarried. she died on november 4 2011 from liver cancer :’( my other grandma his widow has alzheimers & cant remember he died or where she is. i was a lot closer with him than her but shes still my other grandma & i keep praying 4 her. r.i.p. grandpa & my real grandma :’( i miss both of u soooo much & always will

Wow what a great and touching performance! Inspiring stuff. I'm amazed she was able to go through with the show all things considered, especially after just finding out about it. My grandpa died in April of 2002 and recently lost my grandma 2 years ago. It's the hardest and saddest thing in the world to lose family members, and you never really get over it. Best thing to do is stay strong and stay the course, and remember that you still have many people/friends/family members around you who love and care about you, and the ones who leave us would want us to be happy and live the best life possible.

I agree, it does not get easier. I just have to Accept it. Our grandparents are in Heaven watching over us and protecting us. We have to live our best life for them, that is what they would want for us. To be healthy, happy, let's make our grandparents proud. I was in the audience for this show. I remember this performance so vividly. My heart broke for her.
You can sense the stillness in the air during this performance. And by each and everyone of those faces in the auidence the sense of sympathy, concern and deep respect for that young, vulnerable and immensely brave 18 year old girl.
I'm crying, this is so heartbreaking. Poor baby Avril 😔 She showed so much strength to be able to perform that concert given the news 😔 The way she performed this song with so much love and grief, it's just out of this world. Even know, 17 years later, it hits the heart the same way it did back then.

Same. I can totally relate, I understand as well. I lost my Lola [grandma] who I was also super close to. I am still devastated, I am still grieving, I live with this pain everyday. The Love from your grandparent is a very, very, very special Love that cannot compare, that can never be replaced nor found ever again. I am grateful you, Avril, and me had a close, special bond with our grandparent, it is a different kind of Love and the window to enjoy time together is not long enough.

I saw her first time October 11th 2004 with my dad, he passed away three years ago after New Year's Day and I remember him asking me "have you got this song?", I reply "Yes I do", he replied with "it's a lovely song".

Yes, her grandfather, Maurice Yves Lavigne (parent of avril's father) is passed away on May 13th, 2003. And her grandfather from parent of avril's mom, William John Loshaw is passed away on March 23th, 2003.
