On Agnarr server, a good druid can solo PoF c2 without any downtime at all. They can charm in many planes as well with less downtime and more safety than an enchanter with solid crowd control from root/snare and the safety net of evac. After the DoT consolidation years ago, the druid DoT clicks from the elder spiritist vambraces and the orb of clingling death received the New version of the dots on them making their mana free rotting pretty much game breaking. When you have the sporecaller, naturewalkers scimitar, tempest blade and orb of clinging death they all stack, and sporecaller and orb of clinging death are Focusable. So if you have the symbol of planesmaster and the augment from LDoN you can get mana free 1200ish damage each round on your total DoT damage.
Granted its a bit slower leading up to Kunark, but once you get your vambrace with the first dot Click at 45 its easy mode the rest of the way for solo without downtime. My dru focuses mostly on resists, ac and hp/mana regen, and since druids can wear alot of Monk and Beastlord gear they can get quite tanky, while still being able to cast endlessly.
Outdoors druids are almost as good as an enchanter in most zones, and they can still dungeon crawl just fine able to solo Spore king and many other loot camps that require crawling and dealing with summoning mobs once they have some decent gear and skill.
My personal rating on druid would easily put them in the top 3 of all guilds soloing. And first place would be Shaman simply for their ability to tank a bit better on summoning mobs. Enchanters would be second because they can start charming early and often, and with skill can do amazing things. I personally have played ranger and necromancer as well, but not as much as the rest, and I'd say necromancer is solid fourth and ranger solid 5th. Atleast on live progression that goes into luclin and beyond, rangers can headshot and make coin or AA faster than a necromancer could but are limited to camp selection where the necromancer has a much wider range of camps to either get gear or exp, end game Ranger head shot is too efficient.

Oh the feels of being part of a guild and raiding!! Ah I miss this game. I’m thinking of coming back after years ... worried it’s changed so much that I won’t be able to catch up or worse no guild to return to. I see the servers have merged as well and I’m hoping my warden is still able to be found. Great content, definitely subscribed!

The Druid animal charm is no joke. I charm killed using polar bears in the polar bear pit from 55 to 60 on P99. I'd charm one, have it attack another and then break charm once they were both near death. Root rot to finish both. It was by far the quickest way to get the last five levels considering Druids are not very welcomed into pickup groups unless they are super desperate for a healer.

I've played a bunch of classes, my SK, monk, warrior were for when my friends were online and we grouped up. But everything else I did mainly for soloing. To me soloing is about leveling up and having the freedom to go where ever you want while doing so while at the same time challenging yourself. The problem with a lot of the classes you mentioned is that they don't become soloer's until much later after they get certain ablities and/or gear. The best soloers from the get go were necromancer & beastlord, and I by far had the most fun with the beastlord. I could get multiple mobs on me and still do fine with my pet and downtime wasn't an issue at all for the beastlord. The problem with magician's and enchanters early(besides the mana and other stuff) is that if you get a mob on you you are screwed because they die so easily. Magicians just need to be super careful for that reason, their pets were definitely the strongest though, but you get a lull in certain levels until you get the higher level pets and you don't have the tools yet to handle aggro. How I remember magician leveling is, "this is a blast to play and easy" then the lull hits "why do my pets suck so much now what's going on" then you get the new pets "man this is great again" and so on lol. I could never get into the chanter to much, so I never made it to the point where they become 'fun' I guess, but I always had mad respect for the people who did.
This is all going from memory of course from a long time ago, I soloed with my SK, monk, and warrior too, but the issues are obvious. I actually did it a lot with my SK, but it was so slow. I imagine now a days this is all moot with the addition to mercs though, even though I played the game after they added mercs I never really used them, but I guess mercs make everything soloable with now. I did bard back when the kiting the whole zone was a thing, and it was so long and so boring that I would rather just shoot myself, I leveled one up pretty far but I never got any satisfaction with it as I did with the other classes.

Although soloing has become the norm these days. I agree with your top 3 classes. But I will add the enchanter the same as a druid. Then the wizard and last shaman. Necros and Bards can start at very low levels on that grind. I don't include mages because after 45 the soloing stops unless you have very good gear and the epic which sucks to get. Same as rangers. I need a very special bow and a big area to kite. And, rangers need ammo until endless quiver thing way later on. Bards also have a limit on what they can solo later on. Necros are the ones that can continue on until very high levels.

    Necro and Shaman are kings.
Necro is easier and faster, shaman can kill bigger mobs. Both have no downtime for mana compared to other classes. And a way to run when things get bad, Feign Death and sow.
Magician ... hmm after lvl 50 good luck, with an add good luck, on named you can forget. I hope you have 10 minutes to wait between every mob to recover your mana bar.
Wiz : same as magician, mana regen is a bit better and you are safer with a root (snare?) line but soloing is very slow and dangerous.
Those two classes are good soloers before lvl 40 maybe after that they need a druid or a group. Don't forget the magic and fire resists from mobs of your same level category.
Bard, amazing but slow, too slow. It is not a dps class at all.
Druid is an amazing class on classic for sure, turning master of nothing during PoP. You can solo but i hope you like mana breaks between mobs.
To turn a very good soloer you will have to select your zone and charm an animal. You can snare that is a must for safety but charm breaks will be boring (you can not lower the magic resistance of the mob which is the biggest leverage on charm duration making necro, druid and magician not so good at charming).
Enchanter : hmmm ... you can play the hitman and kill what you want in a dungeon. But you will need to know the game more than any class.
Talking about soloing for a long period of time (grinding exp) i would not pick this class.
But if you duo/trio it is THE class until Gate of Discord expansion ! Charmed pet is the best dps ever and the only thing you won't tank with a charmed pet are raid bosses.
So good soloer but it is exhausting and you may die often.
You forgot Beastlord if you include Luclin. Good soloer not the best dps, not a tank but you have mana regen, slow and heals.
edit : i forgot cleric, yes cleric !! Find an undead zone and you are basically a wizard but a very resistant one. The con is your mana regen, awfull for soloing more than 20 minutes mobs of your level category.
Please consider soloing is fighting mob of your level or 5 lvl under yours minimum. If not just pick a ranger and headshot everything that con green.

I do agree those classes make good soloers. And this is the beauty of EQ that I am afraid that DBG and Darkpaw are going to overlook for the future. Yes the game is about grouping and raids. But there are classes that can solo really well. IMO its enchanter as king 50+, shaman because of buffs, heals, dots, etc., necro , then druid, then 5th wizard. For me bard lost their #1 spot when swarm kiting was nerfed, but yes they still have a lot of abilities that can make soloing possible. Monks can solo with mend, FD and AAs, and rangers can solo when they have endless quiver. Clerics can solo as well, specially in undead areas. Lets not forget about BLs and mages too. This is one of the reasons why EQ has survived for 22+ years. 16 classes and I can say 11 of those classes can solo efficiently.

While wizards have to stop and med, because they quad kite the speed of kills yields more mobs dead in the same time as other solo classes that don't have mana issues. A single wizard can keep the entire wyvern spawn in CS down (including the zone to SS spawns). Same with the otter camp and suits in WL. The only issue wizards have is summoners. Wizard have to avoid them as they have no way to deal with them. With epic and evac they can get away, but they really can't kill them.
Due to this limitation I wouldn't outright give them #1, but from a mobs per hour they are likely tops since bard swarm kiting was nerfed.

    • @BrentFriar

    • @daethe
      @daethe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@BrentFriar Manastone only works in "Classic" zones. It also worked in "The Hole" until it was revamped. It was an extremely busted item. It trivialized any encounter where it could be used. If you had a manastone, everyone important had infinite mana. Cleric casts cheal, you spam manastone, get chealed, trade to next person that needs mana, they get chealed, trade to next person. The mana robe has a cast time, and while it had no recast, it definitely wasn't on the same level as the manastone, and in all honesty is extremely tedious and impractical to use while soloing.

    • @BrentFriar
      @BrentFriar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@daethe I am familiar with both, I have both on my original wizard. The classic zone limitation is not an issue for a wizard. I used to just port to Tox, manastone up, then port back to Cobalt Scar. That was before the advent of potions, but with epic click you could still do it pretty quickly then just heal up while you kite. The robe is definitely not as practical, but you can still click it between casts effectively increasing your overall regen significantly during your quad kite.

Actually Enchanter is one of the best solo classes in the game. It is actually the 3rd class that can solo with no downtime due to how powerful charmed mobs are plus their mana regen spells in the Clarity lines. There are also very, very few places a Enchanter can't solo including deep in most dungeons where they can hold rooms that usually would take a party. As far as being squishy, that isn't really the case because they have their Rune line of spells which absorbs a significant amount of damage. You always make sure you have Rune up so when you get a charm break, you have plenty of time to AoE Stun, Tash and re-charm. You can also AoE mez if you need more time to get things under control. There isn't a single class in the game that has more control over their own destiny than a Chanter. The downside of a Chanter is they are a very, VERY skill intensive, in fact other than maybe bard before melody became a thing, Chanters are hands down the hardest class to play Solo or Grouped. To Solo them even decently, you have to have well above average skills and you needed Expert level skills to do deep dungeon dives and such. They do get nerfed significantly around PoP and become a bit painful to play for a time but eventually even with the nerfs, become very powerful again, if I recall correctly, around level 70 they rise back up to being a powerful solo class. I will agree that Necro is probably the BEST solo class though because honestly, you can be brain dead and solo a Necro so even the worst player can solo a Necro. It requires about a 10th of the skill of any other class to solo to be honest though, if you actually had skill, they were a force to be reckoned with.

LOL chanters are only 2nd to necros in lack of downtime for soloing. Bards don't come close, because the time required for bards to kill is insane. Charming makes you able to solo very fast. If you can duo, then you can kill nearly anything luclin or before (excluding raid bosses). An experienced and good chanter will kill 4-5 mobs per charm.... then kill his pet and keep going. Down time is severely limited (they have 2nd best mana regen in the game).
This guy obviously has never played a chanter, because when charm breaks, you simply hit stun, then retash, stun, then recharm. Any good chanter will tell you this. Oh, and we have runes to keep us alive, as well as beserker spirit damage absorbing spells.

LOL! You must've played with some really crappy Wizards! Not surprising because most people didn't know how to play them properly. I beta'd EQ, was in two top 20 worldwide guilds, and had one of the top 50 Wizards worldwide. I also wrote a couple guides for Wizards including one on quad kiting and pulling Phinny to the zone in for an easy 3 nuke kill and cash in selling looting rights to epic items.
A properly played Wizard can solo with little to no downtime. Once you get Bonds of Force at level 27 all you need is J-Boots/SOW potion/mount, KEI, and Staff of Temperate Flux (quested instaclick debuff) and you're off to the quadkiting races.
A properly played Wizard can be a puller, too. For example, I used to pull mobs for our PoH farming group.
I also used to do rudimentary crowd control when we'd do level grinding groups. Healer draw aggro? Lob a 6 second stun on the mob and by the time it'd wear off the tank has reestablished aggro control.

A 6 group is even faster and they will chain kill as long as they have the tank+healer base.
