I think part of the reason why clubs like long term contracts is because of the salary cap and the fact that they need to spend a large percentage of it each year. Having long term contracts allows you to be flexible weather your rebuilding or contending
Is it as simple as thinking we have space that's otherwise not going to get used, so new deal, front end the contract and use the space and if it works out got a gun and space in the salary cap, if it doesn't easer to trade with reasonable salary for the back end?
Fogarty is very quick and explosive he’s nothing like Tex in that regard. He was affected this year and just had knee surgery, you’ll see the difference.
With Tasmania as the 19th we need another new team for Canberra AND Darwin. IF North moved & rebadged themselves up in the NT then we could have effectively three new teams for the price of two. There simply is not enough support for them to be sustainably viable in the future.

I think Kane is spot on. Long term contracts are really risky, especially with concussions these days. Then there's form and injuries over 7 yrs. There should be a five yr limit on player contracts. It's getting ridiculous.
