This is a Review of the Canon Powershot ZOOM, one of the weirdest most interesting "cameras" i've used. It's kinda a binocular, with out the bi part...and the ability to shoot photos, shoot video and optically zoom from 100 to 400mm and digitally to 800mm. Order the Powershot ZOOM on Amazon amzn.to/3zwS52n
Will you get the best quality out of the photos and video, not really. But it does what it's designed to do, get photos and videos at a distance where your cellphone never could. At the end of the day, it's an interesting device, that might be fun for some people to own.

Another thing people are not really mentioning is that a lot of events won't allow "professional" cameras and I can't even bring my GoPro to those, so this might be allowed in those cases.

I find the canon monocular filling in as a companion camera and video camera such as biking or hiking or anything on the go where bringing a big DSLR or Mirrorless as a drag. It's light enough to hang around the neck or side without weighing you and obstructing your activities. Of course there's alot better devices that do better, but their don't have a small footprint as this device which allows you to take everyday shots and videos of your family and friends activities without feeling you have to bring your camera bag everywhere. I say it's a better than decent camera and video compared to what i used in yesteryear!

Yeah, as someone who has very limited eyesight i dig the idea of having a little monocular with stabilizer, zoom and recording functions. Hey that's basically how i often used camcorders back in the day. But this particular one leaves a lot to be desired, good old a Canon-style. Let's hope they sell a number of these, so Sony recognizes the potential for a proper one. Until then I'll use the phone for those tasks. Also, limited eyesight means a screen would be preferred over a evf, especially if that is on the smaller side.

Betamax was in theory 512 lines in NTSC and 640 in PAL/SECAM, though you ended up with quite less once recorded. Betamax was quite good actually and much better than VHS because it was component video, separating luminance and chrominance (Y/C). It lost the consumer business to Panasonic’s crappy VHS, but turned into BETACAM which became a professional standard for TV crews for 2 decades.

I find the concept perfect, even if the execution is version 1.0. I’ve got a $1,600 pair of Canon IS binoculars that are amazing, weigh almost 3 lbs, and fit nicely in my backpack (if nothing else is in the backpack). They don’t take video or photos of what you see. I’ve also got a Canon Camera with telephoto lens that fits in a large camera bag. I’m not really much of a photographer, so that rarely leaves my closet. I do a lot of travel, hiking, nature observing and watching my grandkids in sports, plays, and concerts. So, a small IS monocular that slips into a pocket is absolutely perfect to go everywhere. Hopefully it will catch on, and Canon will improve on it and even offer higher quality, higher priced versions. BTW, something with an eyepiece is great for taking pictures in the bright sun. I have trouble seeing the screen when trying to take outdoor pictures with my iPhone.

Well digital zoom on cheaper video cameras is usually actually 100% fine. They don't normally use a full sensor readout. They line skip, and can just change what lines they are skipping to when cropping in. It's only when you start running out of physical pixels on the sensor do you start to see a difference. Photos however that do use the whole sensor, is a different story

It is kinda useful but 300 dollars seems quite high and i am an Android user but it's not USB-C - should've at least included a charging cable. Even though the quality is only adequate, as your child-days montage shows, capturing the moment is the most important thing and this device can do it with a better reach than most reasonably-priced smartphones.
Anyway since Chris Packham is in the promo - i'm sold! :-D
