      I have many more white concrete projects already filmed which will come out before spring. Currently processing a backlog of about 60 more short video plus another half dozen of the long form project tutorials.

      @@creatingconcrete I haven't done much work with concrete, but my family and I are getting ready to build a summer kitchen/shelter.
      We do a lot of gardening too, so I'm looking to make my own concrete planters and fixtures.
      Maybe even a concrete countertop for the outdoor kitchen, so I've been very happy to find your channel!

    I was looking for a low cost way to make white cement, white Portland cement has been out of stock at all the big box stores for the last 2 years. The cement companies will only sell truck loads or full pallets.

    Sir, do you think it would be possible to make a white concrete fireplace hearth? I'm now considering quartz but I would think white concrete might be more affordable.

    • @creatingconcrete
      @creatingconcrete  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it can not dry out at all. So wet multiple times, or submerge fully ideally@@ameliabyrne3907

    If you're into recycling, an often overlooked source of pure white sand is clear glass. Throw some broken windows, a couple of jars or bottles, into the mixer, along with a few large quartz rocks and voilla! A couple hours later - Pure White Sand!

    • @creatingconcrete
      @creatingconcrete  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have to be worried about glass slivers / splinters or is it really just like regular sand when you do this?

    • @patthebackyardbuilder421
      @patthebackyardbuilder421 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@creatingconcrete Initially. For safety reasons you should tarp the end of your mixer as some splinters "may" shoot out. After it all breaks down though, it's just nice soft sand. Same process as the river uses to break down rocks.
      Incidentally, highway maintenance crews use this same stuff to give the road lines reflection at night. It's just sprinkled onto the fresh paint.

    Do you have any brand recommendations for people in the US? I can't seem to find any white portland. I read somewhere too that there's a shortage since the pandemic..?

    • @creatingconcrete
      @creatingconcrete  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Concrete swimming pool companies will have access to white portland cement, as will specialty concrete wholesalers. Typically it is not that the white cement is not available, it is more that the stores that sell white cement do not typically sell to the public. Some big box stores used to carry white cement, but I have found in recent years not so much. Note, a pool company does not sell this stuff normally, if you buy from them you will have to offer extra $ so a concrete wholesale supplier is probably your best bet.

    What ratios do I use with white cement and white sand?

    • @creatingconcrete
      @creatingconcrete  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is exactly the same as regular gray concrete in terms of ratio. So any mix you can do with regular sand and regular cement you can do with white sand and white cement. For example 1 cement to 2 sand would make a fine plaster / mortar mix with white sand and white cement.

    Will this white stuff get yellow with over time?

    • @creatingconcrete
      @creatingconcrete  ปีที่แล้ว

      No this white concrete will not yellow, and if it does you can restore the white with an acid wash

      Check hardware stores for sandblasting sand. That is what I am using here, and it is called "white lighting" and it is available pretty much any well stocked hardware store / mechanical supply store.
