The bird problem happens a lot in some places where the birds are fishing/feeding, a way to stop them landing on the spreaders is to fix a 5mm line from the mast out to the shroud about 3" (75mm) above each spreader this stops the birds landing.
Those were some incredibly beautiful storms, although I am sure you and John were both just hoping no lightning strikes to your mast. Looking forward to the videos ow that the warm weather has arrived. Safe travels!
Always a pleasure to sail around with you and your crew to these beautiful and exotic places. I never did like lighting or seagulls while being on a boat, be carful.
I have visited Hamilton a number of times staying overnight in the Marina. Whilst the marina fee is high you are actually a resident guest of the resort so in your case 4 people @ $145 a night is quite cheap. The concierge help in docking and tying up is first class. Fresh food close by and a good selection of wines in the IGA. I would not knock it at all. I have also stayed in the resort in the Whitsunday apartments. 13th floor with truely spectacular views and it was not overly expensive. A great place and definitely worth it for an overnight if on a boat up that way. Best cheap experience is sunset drinks at One Tree Hill BYO. Best expensive experience is helicopter ride out to reef world for lunch and a snorkel on the outer reef.
Absolutely, totally agree! That’s what I was saying, it’s great value as you get to use the bus, resort pool, facilities and it’s MUCH cheaper than the hotel 😃😃 And yes, that IGA is very conveniently located! 🙏🫶🧡 Thanks so much for watching Russell, and next time, we’ll try the helicopter haha 🚁 sounds fun!
@@KristinasTravels thanks Kristina. I possibly got the wrong impression when you said it was the most expensive marina you had visited. Sorry. When I first saw Hamilton in about 1990 on my parent’s boat I was dismayed at the (over) development in such a pristine area. More recently in my own yacht (ZigZag) I think it is great as it is restricted to one island which was a grazing lease anyway. It allows easy access for people to visit the Whitsundays and for Yachties to get supplies and have a nice night out. Good little book on the history of the Island and Keith Williams is worth a read. I am currently looking out over the pristine waters of Moreton Bay in an apartment at Tangalooma. Viva the QLD coast. All the best and might see you in Moreton Bay sometime.
I love how you video Greece and then video Australia and you explain everything. I can't believe how expensive boating is in Australia? Thank you for sharing these journeys with the world. I love watching.
Hi y'all, beautiful scenery around those islands. Love lightning storms but having them close by is a bummer. The seagulls pooping reminded me of the phrase, poop deck. It's bad enough having to wash salt off all the time. Catch you next time John and k r i s t i n a, thanks.
That was a really nice resort at Hamilton. I liked the white sand ⛱️ beaches at your second stop. The storms were something else but not quite like the shitty welcome mat the seagulls set out for you. I've never seen them make a mess like that in that short period of time! Wow! 😎
Thanks for the great video. I visited Hamilton Island quite a few times in the early days when they had much more moderate marina fees. Not sure it's in their long term interests to gouge every visitor but I guess there is more demand for berths as time goes on. They used to have a dolphin pool so I'm glad that has gone.
