i kind of feel him on that though. i mean hes not directly saying he wasnt in the gym ever or wasnt doing shoot arounds or anything, just maybe not the practices. he was still there though..on the side riding a bike eating mcdonalds lmao.. short story, my freshman year, we had a lock in last practice before the season started.. we had practice, went home ( another dude and i had travel practice that night too) and then came back too the school until the next morning. practiced, had a little pizza party and played videogames, and then had some competitions.. in the championship of the 2 on 2 tournament we had that night, i severely rolled my ankle on top of the other dudes foot, going up for a rebound. the hospital couldnt even read the xrays, my ankle was so swollen. did it again and again and then the other ankle again and again. lost all of my explosiveness and was so afraid to do it again, thats probably why i hurt the other one, changing how i landed to protect my jumping foot. fuck practice lol sorry so long

People may not like what he says sometimes, but he's one of the most straightforward, honest, and genuine human beings, maybe ever. He doesn't know how to exist any other way, and is a big reason why he's not only my favorite athlete of all time, but one of my favorite people. I always appreciate the irony that he's been my role model since I was a kid and he signed with Phoenix, despite his notorious quote admitting that he is in fact not a role model, which obviously solidified him immediately as my permanent role model till death. Before Charles there was an even more dominant defender and the original "Round Mound of Rebound" - Wes Unseld who averaged 2 more rebounds per game than Sir Charles.
He was not as good as Charles on offense, but he was a much better defender, and one of the shortest centers of all time at just under 6'6" (although listed at 6'7").

@@mikee702 I actually wouldn't disagree with that, necessarily, but part of the reason for that is because Jordan was in his absolute prime. He wasn't for the second 3peat. Don't get me wrong - Grant was a beast, but the supporting cast was far better for the second 3-peat. Kukoc, Kerr (who was better than Paxson), Rodman, Longley (underrated), and Ron Harper... I mean, that is one hell of a cast.

The Suns were being bullied every single year in the play offs by the Portland Trailblazers, so of course the first game we played them, Charles was knocking them down. NOT THE SHOTS, THE TRAILBLAIZERS!!! He had them on the floor and was mauling them under the basket, we kicked their butts for the first time in years, we DOMINATED PORTLAND!!!! Charles Barkley IS THE MAN!!!!

It wasn't until about 5 years ago that I really started going back and watching the film of him that I gained an appreciation of just how dominant a player he was. His larger than life personality off the court was only surpassed by his tenacity and determination to win on it. He played with physicality and hustle that few today would match 1 game in 5. And he did that every night.
