If the trees aren't surviving well when shot due to the pressure, how about having a seed shooter? Bascially, having nutrient + seed + dirt shot into the ground at the same time. Relatively simple to make too : Take a ball of fertile dirt. Poke a hole in it. Put a seed around the middle of the ball. Close the hole. Put the ball of dirt in the air cannon. Shoot. Rinse & Repeat. The cool thing about this is that you can also select the type of trees to plant. You can put fruits tree seeds (like apple trees) now and then. For the few seeds that actually grow properly, it would mean a new food source for the animals around.
