Baby Vox's legacy is often overshadowed or forgotten when the topic of first-gen girl groups gets mentioned.
For that reason, I wanted to bring them back into the spotlight.
It’s important to keep in mind that what you or I consider legendary or legacy groups could be far different from what Korean fans may consider. But no one can argue that Baby Vox’s career was Integral to the history and evolution of girl groups. Many popular girl groups or idol rappers may have not existed if it weren’t for the pioneering of Baby Vox.
If you want to know more about DR Music’s shady business practices and their repeated mistakes with their future girl groups Rania and Black Swan, please check out these videos mentioned here.

Also, just a hiccup, but at 12:43 you said the year "1988" instead of "1998." Honest mistake.

Very hypocritical of that DJ Doc member to call them "prostitutes" just because their company did a shitty job at sampling, when every single thing about 1st gen kpop is either a jpop or western music replica. Like that one idol said " We would pick the song and the company would give it to us". Ironic enough DJ Doc's biggest hit is just Boney M's Daddy Cool.
His words really damaged their image. A famous senior MALE artist was calling them names in the public, ofc the public would support him.
Nonetheless Baby VOX did huge things for kpop. Without their existence I doubt female rappers like Miryo or LE would have debuted, let along whole girl crush groups like 2ne1 or 4minute. Plus they also introduced the possibility of kpop's success outside of korea something SM would certainly use for their future groups Suju and EXO. Also fun fact they mark the first case of a kpop group from a small company rising up to the top along groups of the big companies (aka DSP and SM at the time).

Can confirm, Get Up was a sensation. I remember losing my shit when Killer was 1st on inkigayo because that song was so catchy. I still have their 4th album, though I lost my copy of their 3rd.
In forums and stuff i would see Baby Vox get a lot of casual hate from the generally misogynistic kpop fanbase at the time, lots of casual slutshaming. Thats on top of the harassment they experienced from antis. I had heard other smaller dating rumors as well, such as Yoon Eunhye being rumored to be dating Oh Jonghyuk from Click-B; not sure if that was just some bored loser making shit up, but the point is that people piled on this unfounded bogus rumor and slandered Eunhye anyway.
As for Baby Vox's failed American debut, another criticism that I had heard was that their look and the song perpetuated the stereotypes of Asian women as hypersexualized, and Kim EZ wearing a kimono-style shirt in the music video. We were pretty torn because we didn't want those elements to be the first representation of kpop in the west.

Did TH-cam recommend this to me because I started looking for them on Spotify after all these years? Maybe! Either way, I thank you for this! Baby V.O.X. was absolutely my favorite female group back then. I loved S.E.S, too, but Baby VOX absolutely had my heart. I remember being in fan forums at the time, way before K-Pop even remotely became an international phenomenon. (I honestly still cannot believe it actually did lol). But even though I was a fan back then, I have to admit, I didn't know all the details you provided here! There was no youtube yet and connecting to the Internet still made a very loud noise. I wish we as international fans had had the ability to interfere with the public bullying at least a little. I feel horrible finding out about all of the hardships right now. Thank you so much for this!!

Just watched the video and you really go in-depth with Baby VOX. 51 minutes in length, sheesh! You had some stuff that only Koreans would know (or you had to dig up from Korean newspapers, blogs, magazines, etc.)
The video brought me back to the old-school K-pop that I grew up with. Awesome job in talking about one of the iconic 1st gen groups.
Really appreciated the hard work on this video.

such an interesting video! can't even imagine how long it must've took to gather all this information and put it together in a video. Also i can't help but wonder how would they do if they were to debut today; there's a variety of really interesting girl groups around but very rarely we see girl groups performing songs that talk about school bullying or women's expectations in society (other than the "i'll do whatever i want" trope), also there's little no none hiphop based girlgroups in kpop today, it would be very refreshening to see some of that energy in a 4th gen group

This kind of coverage reminds me of my hay-days. It wasn't ostracized in my experience but definitely weird for a black girl in Detroit to be listening to SM and YG artists. I never really paid attention to these girls or F.I.N.K.L. and with SM town songs it was the same for SES. But I still love the time period musically.

Oh WOW!!! To see the name Baby Vox on a modern TH-cam video blows my mind. I got into K-pop in 2000 when I was a sophomore in Highschool. There were two girls from Korea who had transferred in and didn’t speak much English. I was a total weebs and had a photo of Yoshiki (drummer of X Japan) picture on my class folder, and one of the girls recognized it. We then traded CDs to listen to (I gave them some VK, they gave me K-pop). I ended up loving HOT, Baby Vox, Shinhwa, and EVE. Thanks for making this video!!

@@nekorei2023 English is her main language is more what I was meaning. The others it's Korean, but Yumi Korean is different to theirs. Her English is spot on with her singing, and her voice is stronger in English than her singing Korean. Tasha Reid and Amy Lee the singer known as Ailee are other examples of Singer born in America. Tasha Reid's English has a non Korean accent and instead a type of American accent. It's cool that K-pop has this going for it.

Loved this. It's so good and detailed. I wish they had continued with their original concept and also I wish they had gone ahead even after their final comeback. Maybe they'd have resurfaced.
DR needs to let Baby Vox and Rania go. They need to do something new. I like that the CEO was determined to create something new too but he forgot about it. Maybe they should try boy groups.
