      I think you should plant some orange trees , cherry (cherry trees make delicious honey!!) lemon trees and a filed of flowers , away from the colonies so bees could have more to pollinate , in my country portugal honey bees are set on mountains and have access to some unique plants that only grow here , always have a honey jar at home.

    Hello from France,
    I learned to remove the wax capping of the frames on a separate bucket. It helps after extracting with the filters. And we let the honey sit for at least a week so that the air bubbles and impurities can rise to the top, where you can easily scrape it off.
    Beautiful harvest of valuable gold. Keep up the good work.

    Didn’t even get all the way through the video before buying from Uriah. I’m a sucker for supporting youth. (Long time scout leader, youth coach, and substitute teacher!)
    So Uriah, I have a couple questions for you. Do you know what your profits are after considering how much your materials cost? And have you figured out how much you were able to pay yourself hourly?
    I loved asking those types of questions when helping my kids with their 4th grade sale projects. So many parents let their kids keep all the money but I loved teaching mine about the value of paid help (me since I was their slave labor 😂) and I asked them to pay me back for materials I purchased to start them out. It was amazing to see that little lightbulb click when they understood the true value!
    Good work in starting that entrepreneur and can’t wait to taste the honey! ❤

      legit business questions. HOWEEVER, if farmers broke down their profit into hourly wages, we wouldn't have many farmers left. part of your profit is being proud of your hard work and final product. i know that Uriah is proud that you requested his honey. thanks for being a kind person.

    • @Tammayrend
      @Tammayrend หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I understand that farmers work more than they likely recoup. I Contis used this a homeschool type learning question. When kids grasp those ideas they learn so much about themselves and the world around them.
      Several kids in my son’s class were not made to pay back parents or pay their help. It wasn’t a real representation of how the world works. My kids learned to make money and learn that sometimes you need “investors” to get started.
      The reality is, WHOTH puts a lot more into the TH-cam channel and the farm then they will EVER see in financial returns. I was only asking the questions since he’s making it a little business! However it shakes out he should be proud of what HE did this summer!!!

      This is not an uncommon way of thinking. In fact, it's the entire premise of being a moral vegan (it's conservatively estimated that there are about 75-90 million vegans around the world, so it's not a small number). This practice centers around not using/taking animal products. If it is made by an animal, it belongs to them. This includes milk, eggs, meat, leather, honey, etc. Animals work hard to produce their products and exploiting and killing them for their meat or product is selfish and wrong. There are people who are vegan purely for health benefits, but the thought behind moral veganism is no violence or exploitation of animals. Respecting this choice and not mocking people for their religious and/or moral compass is not okay. Let's be kinder. ❤

No taking honey , what are bees supposed to do to defend themselves from , for example asian wasps? if humans don't plant fruit trees and plants that bees can take pollen to fabricate honey , how are they supposed to survive ?
      humans are omnivorous , if you to much raw vegetables are will result on becoming sick , having a mixed diet and cooking the materials is the olny way for humans to survive , in case of war to rump up from nowhere , vegans would be forced to eat whatever they could find , because vegetables don't grow the entire year unless you put them under simulated environment , vegans don't care about if animals suffer or not , they care that their way of living is correct and everyone should be forced to be like them , the world isn't rich enough for normal people to afford highly processed food vegans eat , they mostly are people living in cities that know nothing about the wild, farms or agriculture .

    Can you send the dead Queen to your AG Center for your state or county (whichever deals with bees) and have them check the genetics? Some areas can and they check for % of the dangerous Africanized killer honey bees. Neighbors of a relative that have kept bees for years, and gift jars to my family for putting up with them and allowing storm traps on their land, suddenly had a hive become aggressive. They decided to replace the Queen before killing the whole hive. Their nice calm Queen was not in the hive anymore. She had been replaced by the aggressive one. The first Queen replacement was killed by the hive. The owners destroyed all eggs or larvae that was young enough to turn into a Queen and after waiting for another week or two they again replaced the Queen. As the older bees are dying off the hive is getting calmer. Turns out that the aggressive Queen was nearly 50% africanized.

    • @MinnesotaBeekeeper
      @MinnesotaBeekeeper หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. She's a hot one and that's all that matters. Knowing the supposed genetics does nothing. Culling is common practice in the commercial side of beekeeping.

    Jake, you are doing wonderful work with your bees! One thing! Maybe help you save the cost of a queen. When you place a queen cage into a hive, turn the cage so that the screen is parallel to the bottom of the box. The bees in the hive feed the queen. With the screen up, the bees wanting to give the queen sustainance have to approach her back. With the screen down, the attending bees can produce food and water proboscis to proboscis. One of the objectives in queen introduction also is to spread the queens' pheromones. This is more easily accomplished, screen down. She will actually lower her abdomen to the screen. I've never seen it happen where she has to do "pull-ups"! Thanks for your great video.

    Almost can't believe you could get that many jars of honey. I thought the ratio of wax to honey and the size of a hive that you would only get say a jar or two per frame. Have you ever thought of getting a bunch of local wild flower seeds for in the spring and just randomly spreading them to cover a field area or all along the property? Would be fun to see the border covered in different flower colors or you could try to grow colors in a gradient like a rainbow with oranges flowing into yellows and reds. Would be neat to hear if the bees start to favor some flowers and if it makes the honey taste a bit different 😉

    I remember seeing a documentary on killer bees. It seems the aggressiveness was passed down through the drones, not the queens (surprisingly). If that hive is still aggressive even after re-queening, try bringing in some drone cells from a less aggressive hive and see if that helps. Also, have you considered changing over to horizontal hives? They seem a whole lot less invasive for the bees, easier to check, easier to harvest, and better insulated. Just a thought.

    I did almost the same growth you did this yr! Good job my man its not easy!! I went from 4 hives to 25 double deep hives now! And I also got 40gallons of honey off said hives. Pretty incredible! I got the instavap, been having good mite kills with it. Did mite checks prior to and after doing 5 treatments of OA. Got it down to 1-2 mites per wash cpl had zero.

    Great video! It was fun to watch. Just a tip... use a separate tote to uncap the frames. that'll keep the extractor way cleaner and allow you to filter far less through the double sieve. there are a bunch of uncapping tank options out there. You will notice a difference in efficiency immediately after

    Awesome video! We have two hives, and brand new to it, started with one that swarmed and caught them, made a 2nd one, had yellow Jackets get under the one hive they attack us, they go under and eat the honey bees that are pushed out and die under the hive.

    One arrangement for renting farm ground is 1/3 for the landlord [the people who own the bee hives / farm ground ] and 2/3 for the farmer [the bees]

    Don't know if it will help but if u get a sec check out just Alex he is a bee keeper aswell from the UK filters the honey a bit different to you might make filtering it a little easier with less wax blocking up your filters .. nice honey harvest though

    Culling a hot queen, great. If you can also cull all the drone brood. They carry the behavior gene. Consider getting rid of the roller uncapper. As you found, those make a crap load of fine wax that plugs the metal filters. Having several filters on hand also gets rid of the plugged filter bottle neck. Good luck.

    Have you seen how Erika Thompson on Texas Beehive do it without any protection? She scoops the bees with her hands. And its another day of saving the beeessss. You should collab with her ❤😊

    • @lizzysanders523
      @lizzysanders523 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      😂 she's collecting swarms, not extracting honey from a hive in late summer/ early fall. BIG DIFFERENCE. No one works their hives in dearth during harvest without at least a veil. Bees in swarms aren't defensive because they don't have anything to defend.

    Now you are getting bigger with honey production, have you thought about beeswax candles? I know this might take away from the farming, maybe someone who can do it will partnership with you? I only buy beeswax candles as the smell last throughout the candle. It is more expensive to purchase but I would love the fact I could support you from uk and I love using natural products. Maybe something to think about (if you haven’t already! 😜)!
