    Welcome to The Thin Blue Line official youtube channel. In this classic police sitcom, Rowan Atkinson plays Inspector Fowler, head of the Uniformed Branch of the fictional Gasforth police station. Fowler is constantly in battle of wits with DI Grim and the Criminal Investigation Department. Created by Ben Elton, the series aired from 1995 to 1996.

    Why have I only heard of this show recently? I haven't laughed this hard so often in years.

      it started nearly 26 years ago now. the bloody bbc never repeat it unlike fawlty towers or porridge that have been rinsed to death. i tell any sitcom fan to buy both series of the thin blue line on dvd when its only £5 on ebay .

      BBC never actually made re-runs of this show.
      It's a hidden underrated gem of golden age british humor.

    Great series and criminally underrated. I think 'Grim of Gasforth' could have been an equally great spin-off.

      BBC has money for useless programs . This series had the potential of being a 10 seasons one.

      100% agree. It was brilliant yet the critics panned it constantly. It was one of the first shows where a few critics seemed to have more clout with BBC management than tens of thousands of viewers. Now of course, popularity with viewers is a death sentence for shows.

      Never mind about her...it's constable HABIBE who is hotter than a vindaloo with extra ghost chillies and a side dish of extra strong West Indian hot pepper sauce reduced in a pan to 50% of its original volume. So quite tasty.

      I have a feeling that he's got a secret obsession with Scotland Yard. How he goes on about it to the female officers, but is clearly irritated when he meets Inspector Fowler - speaking of which, gee do I wish I had a field trip to Scotters when I was a student :D

    I think Mr. Jones can be derived from the fact that one of the crew members of this show was a great fan of Dad's Army (Lance Corporal and Butcher Jack Jones)

      Yes, Grim and Steve Fleming are both played by the brilliant David Haig.

      Grim actor was also in Four Weddings and a Funeral film and he got married later in the film. First time I'd seen him. One of my very favourite comedies. Absolutely brilliant ALL the cast.
      Why it was panned by the critics, who knows?? Probably too funny or the plebs liked it.
      Did slightly prefer Series 1 because Grim's offsider had a great laugh but believe that actor has gone on to be hugely successful in production.

How does a man go from being a by-the-book, intelligent police inspector to a bumbling, incompetent spy? And how on earth did he travel back in time to become a French detective in 1950s Paris?
