Hello...Dear Fernanda. Good morning from my Country. What a beautiful Cattleya Orchid...I love and love it... 💕 💕 💕. Thank you for sharing...Dear Fernanda. And wish you all the best wishes. Greetings from my Country...Zaleha❤❤❤
Hi my dear friend Zaleha, I am so glad to see you here. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, so much appreciated ❤️. I hope you are already having a lovely week and that your plants are making you happy 💐💖🥰😘
Hi Fernanda 😊 your video is such a great reminder about Cattleyas and how their new growths grow roots at different stages. I learned the hard way repotting one with a new growth expecting new roots shortly to come and nothing. Watching it shrivel to nothing. I’m still trying to save it. It finally clicked for me how some types of Cattleyas grow roots right away from new growths and some don’t where they actually grow new roots once the pseudobulb fully forms. I now understand to repot when new roots have just started. Thanks for the wonderful reminder as with springtime it’s easy to forget and get into repotting too quickly without thinking it through.
Hi DeeDee thank you so much for your comment 💐 I read with particular and special appreciation as you understood the point of my video which was sort of conforting💖 Also it seems we both had the same bad experiences and had to learn the hard way 😄, the best way to learn but st what cost. Thank you again for your words. I hope you are already having a wonderful week 💖🥰😘
My pleasure 🥰 My son gave me the aquarium stones. He has a very large aquarium which he decided to dismantle. He has it stored which is a shame because it would be nice to grow orchids or even a terrarium. I wish I could use it, I just don't have a suitable place for it 😊 But I am using the stones...
Same vendor was on this years annual show. I had the intention to buy big lava rock for crocking but he had only small size (Seramis size) with him. Bought a bag of this coconut fibre stuff. He promised me that it is already washed and clean. Never used it before but will try it with some orchids wich have thin roots. BTW this Cattleya looks great. Many regards!
Thank you so much for being here, Anna, much appreciated. Thank you again for the contact you gave me and the reason why I ended up ordering from the Netherlands is because I had already seen the stuff in Eelke's channel and that was what I wanted. The coconut chips I buy locally are also prepared for orchids, according to the label on the packages but I still water it before. I just put it on a strainer and keep it under running tap water for a couple of minutes. It is enough to washe out some of the brown colour of the tanins and it lowers the ppm. I hope you are having a lovely week 💖🥰
Hi amigo Manu, this is just the result of my personal experience. I lost quite a few orchids before I understood how they work 😄 Hope you are having a fantastic week 💖🥰
I hope that mine will also bloom one day 😅 mine started new roots a couple of months ago. I was tempted to repot her, but if light levels and temperatures aren't high enough, then the stress of a repot will cause problems. I may get another flush of roots during the warmer months and maybe she will get a bigger pot then. 🤔 hope you had a wonderful day, amiga mia ❤ excellent video and have a great day mañana 🤗
Thank you so much for being here ❤ It's been a while, 5 years 😬 Keeping my fingers crossed they will bloom soon. I have a big no no in what concerns Cattleya development which is the lack of warmth during summer so I trust yours will bloom sooner. Maybe this year? Keeping my fingers crossed for the both of us. Hope you had a wonderful day and heading for a well deserved rest 😘😘😘😘😘
Obrigada minha querida. Beijinhos e boa primavera 😍💖😘
This is very helpful to understand when to repot. It’s been frustrating because most people say wait until the blooms drop, but like you said, then the roots are too long. Thank you for explaining this so clearly.
Hello🙋 I am so glad to have been of help. I learned all this by personal experience and for that I lost quite a few before I figured it out. Thank you for the feed back, much appreciated ❤️❤️❤️
Olá, ficou excelente! Aqui não encontramos esse substrato. Aqui pedra pomis, encontramos umas barrinhas.
I also experiment with orchids.Old medium replaced with new medium. This repot with proper staking ensures airflow and new root growth.A doubt lingers in my mind. When will be the next repot of this plant , Fernanda? Recently I noticed a pot bound cattleya staying happily and producing blooms in an orchid garden. My observation is undisturbed cattleyas will produce more blooms than cattleyas subjected to frequent repottings.A potted stunted cattleya , I pulled it out from the pot, divided it into three and mounted on to three guava trunks I came across. The plants are happy .They are producing new roots and new shoots. As cattleyas love to be dry occasionally, water clogging isn't here and ample airflow make the plants happy. No hard and fast rules Fernanda. All the best. 13:52
Hi Jose, thank you, I enjoyed your comment very much. I agree totally with you, the least we disturb Cattleyas the better. So, I hope that I won't have to repot it any time soon. Reason why I am changing all my Cattleyas to inert potting material. I hope all goes well. I know that I will have to water more frequently during summer which is the warm and dry season. On the other hand, during winter they can dry out faster unlike what hás been until now. I hope you are having a great week 💐💖🥰
Hi and thank you so much for your lovely comment, much appreciated. I lost several Cattleya before I understood how they work and so, I hope my personal experience will help others. I hope you are already having a fantastic week my friend 💖🥰
.......beautiful cattley,... inert media,... calmag.....your talking my language.........great information Fernanda.......I bet that catt loves the pumice......would love to find a source for that here.......great show
Hi dear Rick, you are my mentor 🥰 and I have your reccomendations all in my head. They made me a better grower. I hope my orchids like the pumice and other inerts. That way I don't have to disturb them to repot as often and undisturbed orchids should be better bloomers. Thank you so much for your kind words, so much appreciated ❤️ Much love from me to you and Jan 🥰🥰🥰🥰
That is a beautiful cattleya... I have a dowiana seedling to repot this year I am nervous just thinking about it. It's is growing in a little bark and polystyrene chunks I would like to change it to river rock or pebbles but it might not like it 😳
Hi Tina!!! I see no reason why your dowiana would not like it, as long as you wait for the new roots when you repot it. However please bear in mind that growing in inerts like rock or pebbles will require more frequent watering. Also Cattleya seedlings need more humidity than established Cattleyas. I watch a lot of brazilian channels and they grow Cattleyas on open baskets with very little or no medium and their roots grow long like Vandas but the thing is, they have the proper climat for them. Whereas us 😄 have to adapt our medium to our watering habits and environment. Thank you for commenting dear Tina, have a wonderful rest of the week 💐💖🥰
I'm slowly trying Catts again, the other room just didn't have enough light. I got a Catt. Lois McNeal and it's doing better then all Catts I tried before. 😁
Great repotting video Fernanda, thanks for sharing. I have difficulty finding that big pumice over here, so I will check if they deliver to UK. Your orchid is very beautiful and healthy, soon should be blooming for you too! Can you keep it outside all year round?
Hi Matthias, I have high hopes on pumice, lava rock and other inerts. I lack bark of good quality, it degrades so fast for me. And hopefully undisturbed orchids will grow better. For me, bark does not work well but it does well for most people. I suppose pumice can be a bark substitute in the sense orchids grow on anything, success depending on our watering regime. However I am still adapting in what concerns watering frequency...
A melhor marca é Orchiata. Beijinhos 😘😘😘😘
