"The adult in that situation is the ADULT in that situation!" Oh, Dr. John you don't know how validating that is for so many abuse survivors out there who were blamed and shamed for just being a kid ....😢
Two years after this first aired and I’m writing to say thank you, Dr John, for being angry about that man who “held hands with a child.” I was molested at a young age and here I am, 70 years later, loving you for your anger. My personal belief is anyone who molests a child should be jailed for life without parole.
I knew a guy who rode a Harley, had an accident in which he lost a leg up high. It was either quit riding or switch to a trike. He chose the trike - it was the only way he could continue doing what he loved.
I don’t know why Dr Delony reacted that way or even made that comment. So older people or handicapped people shouldn’t have the same access to have fun? Weird comment
Listening to John finish the show today was hard so I watched it. I have tears in my eyes. Amanda, please be strong and courageous. You don't need this man.
Thank you for getting so pissed off about the churches inadequate response to a 13 year old and an adult man holding hands situation. Appropriate anger, indeed!
As someone who's had a family member groomed by an individual high up in the church and the community, not every contact with a minor needs to be sexual for that person to have sexual gratification. Dr. John was right on the mark when he talked about the church covering things up. It happens all the tjme
Molly, do what John says. I am in that situation now for 33 years and will be filing divorce. Boundaries are healthy both for you, your daughters ,and your husband. Boundaries cause people to act like babies or grow up and take responsibility for their actions. Great advice John, I wish I did this years ago.
Dr John, I am so impressed that singing is your go-to response. Mine was quite louder and much more adult. Wow. What a call. Anger and steam don't cover it. That poor momma bear; bless her as she walks through this and protects her cubs.

They definitely should have reported this. At the very least he would be added to sex predator registry. I refuse to believe this was the first indiscretion. This was the first time he got caught
Wow.... that was a hard ending to this episode. I felt it just as deeply as John today. Was there enough info for the show to report this guy to the police? Maybe, maybe not. All that John *didn’t* say when he threw up his hands at the end was definitely said through his body language. Wow....just wow....

The lady with a critical husband---is he having an affair during the week when he's gone?? It seems to me that men get so critical when they are feeling guilty or they are looking for an excuse to run around.
I was married to a sex/ porn addict . It was horrible. The church needs to expose this!! I'm so glad I'm divorced . So much damage ..I was let down by many...Best thing I did was divorce

They're out having fun, creating shared memories and having fun. All YOU'RE doing is talking crap about them online. They Are Cool! You? You're a Putz!
That was some ending! The way he tossed his ear buds and just walked away, not caring where they fell. He’s right, though. And yeah, the church did wrong. If I ever heard that someone in my church hurt a kid, even as “innocuously” as this, I would call and report them myself. And I’d insist that the pastor and elders take the Abuse & Trauma training I was trained in as a mental health coach. And if they didn’t, I’d make a huge stink about it. I’m pretty sure my church wouldn’t do what that church did, but I know what I’d do if it ever was a situation

If there was a fight he would take my checkbook and keys. I was a stay at home mom until he lost his job so I went to work and had to quit the job because he told me if I went out of town I wouldn't have a home/son/marriage to come back to. He went to counseling twice and said he was bi polar but didn't need anymore help. The 2 week thing was my marriage for 12 years. I became a shadow of myself until I wasn't and finally took my life back. I hated doing that to my son but didn't want him growing up any longer thinking the way his father talked to me/treated me was how men were supposed to act. So glad I did because at 32 and married for 6yrs now himself he is a kind, loving husband and father. Sorry for going on but Molly's story really touched my soul.

Perhaps he doesn't want anyone peeling back the layers and finding out what he's been doing to his daughter. That's not a normal response from a father. The girl's father and this woman's husband are both disgusting.
You think if a father called the police and said “a man held my daughter’s hand at church” they’d arrest him? Are you actually serious? What crime would he be charged with.
Maybe it’s not the Dad but the guy in sex rehab that’s been doing the grooming all along, and the hand holding and sexual play the girl-child exhibited is just a “symptom” of what has already happened between them. And if the girl was questioned by the church she would protect him and say nothing happened. Which is why a sexual assault psychologist needs to be involved and police should know about this for a proper investigation

Is there any treatment for that type of behavior? If she divorces him, and he goes out into the wild will it snowball into him committing greater acts? Or is there a chance that he will never… just never ever ever go there again? and, how does one get to that point? What happens in a person’s life that makes them attracted to children? I know these are probably seemingly odd questions to most, but I am interested in the psychology of these people. I was abused as a child and I guess I try to make sense of it.

Hire out the laundry, some churches have serious accountability problems themselves, always hiring too much kin, looking at the congregation like it is a dating service-- more so in the past than now.
How is just holding hands sexual contact? What was the rest of the story? Were they siting in the pews fiddling fingers together and someone walked in? Kids can 100% make advances on grown men. Obviously the grownup is always in the wrong if they reciprocate .
Children making sexual advances on adults is usually a symptom of previous abuse or trauma. You should look it up and research it for your own knowledge.
The husband who complains about the wife not folding laundry might have a valid point. She may not see how the house is unkept because she's living in the mess. Maybe he can pay for a cleaning service before he comes home. I am in lot of homes as a health care worker and it's unbelievable how unkept the houses are. When a man is on the road all week the least the wife can do is make sure the house is clean, orderly and laundry put away when he comes home. Having kids is an excuse. We live in a world of time saving devices. It's easy to keep a house clean.
So after working all week doing one job, he should expect to come home to a clean and tidy house, but the wife who also has been working all week doing a full time job AND a second one looking after their two children, she needs to do even more to make sure the person just doing one job is happy and won’t get angry or threaten divorce? Really? Get real. That’s allowing abuse towards her and her children. Disgraceful!
It’s easy to keep a house clean if it’s your ONLY JOB! But this wife has TWO full time jobs in addition to the house, a 40 hour paid job, plus taking care of and raising two children!

Hire out the laundry, some churches have serious accountability problems themselves, always hiring too much kin, looking at the congregation like it is a dating service-- more so in the past than now.
This sounds like a long long addiction so I did you get messed up with him in the first place
How can you Americans have 4 kids and every family
How is just holding hands sexual contact? What was the rest of the story? Were they siting in the pews fiddling fingers together and someone walked in? Kids can 100% make advances on grown men. Obviously the grownup is always in the wrong if they reciprocate .
And he welcomed it.
Leave him
Children making sexual advances on adults is usually a symptom of previous abuse or trauma. You should look it up and research it for your own knowledge.
That would be called," gross imposition."
I’m kind of confused…all he did was hold hands?
He was caught doing that and he admitted to nothing more.
Since it's so easy to keep a house clean, maybe you can go do it for her? Right?
