    So I tried flying using my head(tracker), assigning roll, pitch and yaw to the drone's controls so I'm quite literally flying the drone with my head. It was a disaster 😂

    I think your problem with the uarts was that you need a port with timing (like LED) for pwm signals. Had the same issue when i tried to build my 10" with releasehook for gliders :). Great video again. You are really underrated! all the best from germany

      UARTs do rely on the timers inbuilt to these microprocessors, and Betaflight allows you to remap pins so that any UART can in theory be used as a PWM/PPM servo output, but I couldn't work out how to do this in the target code for INAV.
      I think it's also related to assigning the correct timer, because different timers are configured to run at different frequencies, such that you should be able to run most of the UARTs on one or two timers (depends on the pins) but if they're running as hardware serial then they maybe can't be used to do PWM output at the same time, so I'm sure it was related to selecting the a different/correct timer for the pin that I wanted to use, but I'm not great at reading datasheets and working out which one should be used or not. Quite confusing.
      LED pin evidently happily running on a timer separate from the hardware serial such that it was happy to let me repurpose that pin.
      In future, just easier to get a flight controller with more control outputs - all the new MK4 F722 controllers from Diatone have 8 motor outputs, so if I'm flying just a quad then I have 4 extra pins I can use to drive motors or servos. Much easier, haha.

      For flying into the country, nothing to worry about really. For flying drones in the country, truth be told, DIY/FPV drones are in a legal grey area because they can't be registered, and if it's not registered it shouldn't really be flying. Then for drones that can be registered, the rules regarding their operation make it extremely difficult to actually fly legally.
      My general rule that I give to anyone, legal or otherwise, is be discrete and don't be an idiot.

    Hey, thank you very much for this video, it's amazing. Your videos and work with the camera are so cool. I don't know why you have so few subscribers it's really strange.
    Your build inspired me to make the same for my drone, but I have one question. Do you know of any videos with detailed configurations and so on?
    I went through the links below the video description, and I couldn't find useful videos for me. Or you did it absolutely by yourself and just use that videos as idea?

    • @STRIKINGFPV
      @STRIKINGFPV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, thank you - well maybe I don't ask people to subscribe enough, but I hate asking people to subscribe so I can only hope I get out there more organically, or hope that people who do dig my work actively share it to their friends or groups and stuff, but anyway...
      For headtracking in general I do believe there needs to be a bit of self-driven development/testing and DIY, because even if you buy one of Josh's kits you'll still need to put it together and find a way to mount it on your drone, unless you just buy one of the pre-builts. But like a lot of FPV Bind-and-Fly drones, you still need to setup your own controller, maybe rates, preferred switches, and the servo system will be the same, even more complicated because even if you buy a premade headtracker, you will still need to configure the trainer master/slave in your controller.
      In my case, I built this myself with general research online, some inspiration from Josh's work (which is mechanically much cleaner that what I've done), and a big help was Painless360's video on the headtracker and how it interfaces with your controller to send the camera tilt signal.
      Maybe the biggest issue I had was using INAV with this system because my flight controller's firmware target did not support servos on other pins and I had to build a custom target for it to work, whereas in betaflight you can use resource mapping and its inbuilt servo tilting functions.
      It's a journey definitely, but of course it's quite rewarding at the end. If I ever need to rebuild this drone with a new stack (the one that will support servos without a custom target, hehe) I might do a start-to-finish build video which includes the servo setup, but that's very unlikely at the moment. Not much cash, and towards the end of the year I usually get a bit busier.

    Careful with iNAV compass interference can make drone go wrong direction or not directly home. Like one area it goes left around buildings then comes back behind me lol. Another area if I get too close to this industrial building it will fly that direction

    • @STRIKINGFPV
      @STRIKINGFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't get me paranoid 🤣. In all seriousness though, the types of places I fly don't have that much interference, I'm not really in cities or anything so I feel safe enough for now.

    Thanks a lot! Was trying to find out if this frame would fit a standard stack (I like to have opportunity to swap boards with my 5-inch) and that's a perfect answer to my question ). Just one thing, do you think if vista would fit in the back part of the frame, below where your gps module is now mounted?

    • @STRIKINGFPV
      @STRIKINGFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad I could help! Unfortunately no, there is a tall standoff which is used to partially support the carbon base plate that the Vista would normally be mounted-to. This standoff would go through your Vista, basically. Now, if you trust that the prop guards plus the front standoff are strong enough to support the base plate, then maybe you could fit it by removing the rear standoff, but will still be tight nonetheless.
      If the Vista could fit, another idea is to drill and tap two small holes on the metal case/heatsink of the Vista to bolt everything together, but it's highly unrecommended. But if you did (for fun) try to do that, please disassemble the Vista and separate the heatsink cases before drilling the holes, otherwise you could drill through the Vista.
      My recommendation is just do what I did and fit everything tightly right where they normally go, or grab yourself a mini stack and save yourself the trouble I had (even though I hear the mini-stack plus Vista is still quite tight). It was really quite the challenge, fitting the full stack and having to 3D print an adapter.

    • @Curiousity0309
      @Curiousity0309 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@STRIKINGFPV got it. Now I saw that standoff, yeah it won't work ). And I will still use a full size stack, I already have experience fitting stacks where they are not supposed to fit, so that's not a problem.

    Hey thanks for all your insights do you think the DJI Avata + Goggles 2 is a winner in this regard? i am still debating if i use the avata wit the v2 und tilt via Controller.or if the Goggles 2 with Headtracking are a necassity. At least in Normal and Sports mode the avata tilts by itself. Do you have any advice?

    • @STRIKINGFPV
      @STRIKINGFPV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man, I'm very much not the expert on this topic since I'm not 100% aware of the Avata's tracking functionality. I believe it's both yaw as well as camera tilt, but I think it does a thing where the control direction seemingly ignores whatever direction you've looked towards? So if you want to actually turn the drone you use the controller, but the head tracking itself is sorta like if you were walking but decided to look around whilst still walking forward.
      Again, hard for me to say. I do like the possibilities of what headtracking can do for me, and I'm sure the Avata's headtracking can help similarly, but I suppose I like that what we can do in the DIY world, which is tweak our stuff to our liking, whereas the DJI stuff is whatever they give you and nothing else, as well as any bugs or quirks that come along with it.
      If the question is whether or not you should go with Goggles 2, I think you can focus on its other pros first, namely its size, adjustable dioptres and as-yet-to-be-implemented backwards compatibility with all the older gear that we're still flying with. The headtracking with the Avata is just a bonus to that, so if it's all tickling your fancy then it might be the way to go.
      If you ever go the DIY route afterwards though, it's very unlikely that the new Goggles will offer some output method for its headtracking features, so you'd have to add a separate DIY headtracker in the end.

      @@STRIKINGFPV hey thanks for your extesive answer. I am Looking foreward to See you put your headtracking to creative use. You are absolutely right about the possibilities of the diy Route. Especialky wirh the new O3 Air unit comeing. Ever since medline drone and nurk put it on a full size gopro i was wondering why they did not go with a naked gopro. I think its the future for cinewhoops. That may be why dji has paid bubby fpv via Rotor riot to showcase their headtracking. By the way are you still flying your lion batteries or have you swiched back to lipo or lihv for cinewhoops?

    • @STRIKINGFPV
      @STRIKINGFPV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FlyingBeeFPV Actually since I've switched to 6S batteries and INAV, the 4S Li-Ion hasn't seen much action. Issue is INAV doesn't do the auto throttle scaling thing upon voltage detection, and to be fair you'd also have to have different altitude hold throttle values too, since the weight plays a big role in that.
      I now mainly use it for powering the flight controller/vista hardware at a lower voltage when doing tests, though now that I've got the OSD menu working with the DJI goggles I could change the appropriate values in the OSD before flight - just haven't bothered.
      I've got a new build coming up that'll still use 6S, but I'm gonna' build a 6S Li-Ion battery to test with that, and might even chuck it on the Veyron35 for fun, see if it works happily or not, haha.

    How do I get head tracking on ELRS?

    • @STRIKINGFPV
      @STRIKINGFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically you need a radio controller with a trainer port and then get yourself a headtracker unit, either a premade or DIY one. Plug the headtracker into the radiocontrol and configure one of the outputs from the tracker to send its signal through your ELRS transmitter.
      Crucially, ELRS needs to be in wide mode or one of the full-res modes, so that the AUX channels can have higher resolution so that the movement of the servo is smoother. In hybrid mode, for example, channel 8 only has 6 positions, which won't make for great servo movements.
