- Transcription of We Are The Champions, an anthology composition by Freddie Mercury, here performed by Brian May himself, in a highly instructive and intimate version.
I noted the fingerings used by Brian, in particular his particular use of the left thumb on the low strings. Feel free to replace them with “standard” barre or other fingerings, as the thumb on the 5th string is not possible for all hands.

Thanks for listening, and don't hesitate to leave me a comment, I really appreciate it. See you soon!

Brilliant Brian thanks 👍🧑🎄
Yes, you're right, Brian is brilliant, I agree. Thanks for your comment 🙏👍🎸🎶
It's amazing, I never thought about putting the chord with my thumb like he does, it opens up more possibilities of understanding his music. My daughter and I thank you for the video!
Thank you Hugo for your comment. Yes, Brian uses his thumb on the 2 lower strings. He's not the only one I know who does it, but personally. I like to do it with the 6th string but for me, it's very difficult to control the 5th string. It's a question of thumb length and mobility. But it does open up other playing possibilities. Interesting to explore in any case! 👍🎸🎶
yes if I may add to that - it's not well taught but all great players like Clapton, Beck, Richards, Frusciante use this a lot, and old blues players too. It increases mobility and makes transitions smooth, and affects the sound positively by having a better pressure than a bar chord, with quite a flat uneven pressure
And in comparison to the bar chords, we can also work on the length of the bass note in relation to the rest of the chord. It's very interesting rhythmically. And when you're playing blues, it gives you immediate access to bends, since the thumb is already in the ideal position for them. I often use this technique, but on a classical guitar it's more difficult because of the width of the neck. 👍🎸🎶
Hendrix use his thumb over the top a lot.
@@NAYF76 That's right, a lot of rock player use it that way. I like it, too 👍🎸🎶
Thank you Brian .🎸❤️

Yes, thank you Brian! He's obviously a very caring person, as well as being a talented musician 👍🎸🎶
the guy is also so clever and he understands the value of transmitting his legacy - tx Serge
Excellent job.
Merci beaucoup, c'est très sympa! Thanks a lot! 👍🎸🎶
waow - the transcription is so good tx - I wish Gilmour would do the same - many artists do not realise what it means for their legacy - the sound comes from the right notes and articulation. As of today we are still trying to figure out how Robert Johnson did play it and that's really a pity
Wish you a lot of views or new students
A huge thank you for this precious message of encouragement, it really makes my day! It's true that having videos of these incredible musicians makes it possible to have precise and accurate transcriptions. You don't have to imagine what they played, but you can see their fingerings and tricks. It's a great lesson to watch them this way. Thanks again for the support. All the best to you 👍🎸🎶
