I'm currently reading her second autobiography, "Unsinkable." It's hair-raising. She didn't have much luck with men. Her third husband literally tried to murder her for her money. It is not a happy life, but she survived until Carrie's death.
Women don’t need men to be happy, she was a successful PERSON first of all, then a WOMAN. It is sad how people these days still care only about the relationships a woman had been and their “beauty”. You all are so ignorant.
It sure was hotshot. This film was made after Singin' in the Rain, also with Debbie Reynolds playing her first role. That also has great picture quality AND it was made in the 50s too.
We owe Debbie the greatest debt for having the foresight to save so much of old Hollywood. When they were liquidating so much of the old studios and costumes she was the one who saved so many items from destruction. She wanted to have a museum and literally gave up her financial health for it - but they still exist today because of her love for the Old Hollywood treasures.
From what I understand when the studios went into bankruptcy in the 70's they just threw everything out, auctioned stuff off, tore stuff down, and she saved everything she possibly could. She eventually had to let it all go because of her horrible husbands who wrecked her finances but it WAS SAVED. She was the one who saved Dorothy's slippers and the My Fair Lady Costumes, and much more, although she emptied her bank account.
Debbie Reynolds represents a fantastic closing chapter to the Golden Age of Hollywood and its musicals. From her origins as a show business ingenue in 1950, she successfully transitioned from the Silver Screen to television in the 1960s. Throughout the challenges of her personal life, she was always the consummate professional and carried the utmost stoicism. She always remained relevant and contemporary with a following that includes her original fan base from "Singin' in the Rain" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" all the way up to Millennials with roles in "Mother," "Will and Grace," and "Behind the Candelabra." She also was one of Classic Hollywood's greatest ambassadors in preserving its legacy with an enormous collection of memorabilia that would have otherwise been lost. While her passing and that of her daughter, the great Carrie Fisher, leave us culturally diminished, they leave a wonderful legacy, including this remarkable number.
You are just tired of degeneracy, self-loathing, and 'diversity is our strength' most likely... pretty normal, its just everyone who says so ends up censored.
Those were the day's. When you actually had to be talented and multi-talented to even be considered. So many triple theats. Debbie was certainly one of them. You go girl!
Debbie was really a very talented dancer, not credited enough for her abilities and showmanship on the screen whenever she appeared. She gave us plenty of enjoyment, now may she rest in peace.
When we get the cloning machine up and running we better make sure Debbie's at the top of the list.. It never ceases to amaze me at how naturally lovely she was.
As Debbie learned to dance with Gene Kelly in 'Singin' in the Rain' only a short time earlier than this film, she had come a remarkably long way as her dancing is both artistic and athletic. A wonderful star in many of her films. So sad that it was all ended recently RIP dear Debbie....
American dream girl, from her movements and facial expressions throughout the tune to the technicolor fantasy world and the admiring sailors as her stage. Uplifting orchestral arrangement.
Song is catchy af "Join the Navy, See the world" And man what a spectacle. I never saw a human fly across the stage like that. That actress is amazing💕
Debbie Reynolds is such a great actress. Maybe the best facial expressions ever. So engaging and endearing when she’s “normal” and really great at comedic faces, too!
This is the spirit of the era when America was really strong and great. But fortunately for the rest of the world, this spirit is always lost. ... This piece of music is impeccable, it was nice to see.
Debbie was no starlet by the time she made "Hit The Deck". She was a star. A starlet was a supporting player who was being groomed by a studio in a series of bigger parts, if she proved competent and successful in those roles. She, then, would become a star. Debbie Reynolds had been a starlet in a number of 1950-1952 films until she broke out as a star in "Singin' In The Rain". While she would appear in modestly-budgeted films after "Singin' In The Rain", she was sthe star. In "Hit The Deck", she was part of an all-star ensemble cast, not a secondary player.
Debbie renalds was a very pritty lady Loved all of her films Bundle of joy I love Melvin Tammy just 3 of my favourite 😍 They don't make films like this any more So sad ,rather watch these films than war's / cowboy or Disaster films so depressing.☹Bring back nice films on tv😍
Debbie was signed by a scout for the studio after she won "Miss Burbank 1948". She was just a cute kid without any showbiz experience. Just about all the other stars took dance and ballet as children. Somehow she was able to keep up with all the other big MGM stars with only a little instruction. Sing, dance, act, comedy, impressions - she could do it. Totally unexpected!
I always see and experience gratefulness in everything they express. In those days nothing is easy to get. Even the smallest pleasures are expressed in such a act.
This is one of the MGM films I believe that had a freelance hair stylist (at least to do some of the stars) My own then stylist Mr. Don worked on `Hit the Deck`. Back in the Fifties he had a salon on E 57th (where I was born) He used to enchant me with stories about the stars and working at the studios especially MGM.
Kuchi Kopi lmao my grandpa was in the navy and he said a lot of guys were messing around with each other. Even those who were str8 they just were the ones on top or gettin taken care of. Pleasure is pleasure for a lot of guys
Here's a nice story about Debbie Reynolds. She grew up in Burbank, CA. There is a VFW in that town. Across the street from that VFW a lady planted a tree in her front yard back in the day in honor of the veterans who died during the Korean War. This tree was decorated every year at Christmas. About 10 years ago, an old Korean War Vet who was part of that VFW wrote Debbie asking if she could perform a Christmas show for the Vets (Korean War Vets in particualar) at that local. Her answer was simple, "You're on!"
Outstanding original rendering rendition copy in 35 millimeters CinemaScope , TechniColor and Stereophonic Soundtrack Merci beaucoup for this incredible rendition! Merci from Paris France

In the stage version “.....it’s a job to swab the deck where all the dirt is/ but a sailor’s always ace is where a skirt is/ join the navy see the world”
Funa Fact: This movie reunites Jane Powell and Debbie Reynolds because they previously started together in other MGM musicals called Two Weeks With Love Athena

Same, read both her books. It's a good thing she knew how to handle finances, even if the men in her life took advantage of that
It had its many Happy moments. The marriages/relationships were sad, Not her Life.

@@Itsdeniselc keep telling yourself that, you might grow to be an old hag.

This is an old film. But...the picture quality is so excellent that I do not believe this film was made in 1950s.

Yeah, I feel like cinema got kinda worse after the 50s in terms of quality of picture.
Really
You should see meet me in St. Louis!
The reason why old films doesn't look good, is that the surviving copies are worn theater copies.

For someone who is a Debbie Reynolds fan, this is a chance for some of us to re-discover her work upon her passing.
I know! 😩 I want her style to come back!
@@repent. It's a little ironic to have an MGM actress promoted on Warner's Archive. All is forgiven.
I married a submariner and I’m still waiting for him to tap dance around with me like that. Smh talk about false advertising.
He's probably rusty;; not much room to practice on a sub. :)
This is such a mood 😂
Just think how your husband feels. He never
saw Debbie Reynolds on his sub.
You can learn tap dancing together and then he'll *have* to do it!!
FRRRR like maybe try putting him in rice? If that doesn’t work maybe return him and get a new one???

I go with Debbie and Jane Powell.
That because she got nice body shape and she lived longer without feeling depressed
Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe then Debbie...however Singing in the Rain is by far my favorite!!!
Barbara Stanwyck! And she was the greatest actress, just watch her eyes, they say everything
Nope Audrey Hepburn still the prettiest
