Yes. 24,000 miles of abuse and later added boost. Still no metal in oil. It did go away with Ceratec. Currently making 820 to the wheels and still no issues or metal in oil.

Great video. I ended up using a filter mag and opened the filter at my last oil change and found a small amount of a fine accumulation of metal shavings which is normal. Unless there is a check engine light or horrible noise present, ship it and live with it.

Gentleman, I'm just a seasoned Ford technician chiming in with what I've experience & encountered. Back in 2011 when the Coyote engine was first realeased, I had at least one Mustang/F150 a week come in with this concern. After tearing down every engine I always found that the crankshaft to main bearing clearances would vary significantly journal to journal abnormally. When discussing with my local FSE & online engineers, I was told that the company responsible for manufacturing the main bearing was having material issues which affected the thermal expansion rates. They had assured me that the driveability would not be affected, so long there is no excess of metal in the oil. I continue to receive vehicles to this day, & my repairs vary from replacing crankshafts/bearings to entire engines, depending on how the engine was treated. In my opinion, drive, enjoy your car, & inspect your oil when servicing, then address as needed.

2014 5.0, ignitor tick started at around 20k miles. Ford gave me the run around for a month or so, finally gave me a new long block under warranty. New long block has 50k on it with a new ignitor tick. Happy New Year everyone!!

My 2014 coyote swapped fox started having a slight tick at idle. It eventually started having a random knock and tick sound(video on my channel) when it was cold but right when it hit 203cht it went away completely. I pulled the pan and checked all the rod bearings but everything looked perfect. I pulled the timing cover and there was no slack in the chain or weak tensioners. So I pulled the chains and when I grabbed the crank sprocket it had a little wobble on the crank, after removing I noticed the keyway was rounded off. I replaced the sprocket and keyway reassembled everything and so far after about 1000 miles everything is quiet.

2018 PP1, picked up the car in Iowa mid March, my brother and I drove it back to Arizona, 1600 miles in 23 hours. Had it up to 145 mph when road/traffic allowed, no "low speed" break in. With a Lund flex tune, ran 11.80 in 4,000 ft DA in April. Have had a dealer change the oil twice, has 11,00 miles, no hint of any tick.

I have a 2018, PP1, build date in Nov, 2017. It has had a small ticking sounds, but it's obviously the direct injection. Sounds just like my 16' WRX that had a DIT motor. I'm current at 11,5XX miles. a couple thousand of which have been hard driving on rural roads and a little autocross. I broke it in, per the manual and have the oil changed every 3K miles at the dealer. The only gripe I have is a rattle has developed to the left of the steering wheel and I don't know what it is! But, I digress. Still love the car... it's a great time to be alive for a car enthusiast!

I know that it has been 6 months since your post. Just wondering if you still have your mustang and how it’s performing with the engine tick.
First mustang I have owned was a black 2015 GT auto as seen on my channel. Before I was able to post any other mods other than the exhaust the mustang blew up at 800 miles sitting in my driveway after remote starting it. I went through hell with the dealer where I purchased from. They eventually offered to sell me another Mustang after buying back the 2015 after many many conversations with the (GM).
The replacement was a 2016 Mustang GT PP1 that I mildly modded, exhaust, intake graphics etc. That car was amazing with no issues at all, of course I was dumb and sold it locally.
I now own a 2019 Mustang GT PP1 Manual. The car had developed the engine tick after driving it home of course. I’ve noticed when cold starting the vehicle and letting it idle down after 5 mins the tick is apparent. Driving the car not to exceed 4,000 rpm’s for approximately 10 mins, the tick dulled slightly to where you couldn’t tell by just walking around the car. My oil was changed at 1,000 miles after the “recommended break-in” using 5w-30 Mobile 1 synthetic and Motor craft oil filter. The tick is still apparent at 1200 miles.
I just wanna enjoy my car without having to deal with Ford “Again” in that matter. Looks to be in Inevitable at this point.
Any updates would be gladly appreciated, Thanx.

They said there was no metal shavings in my oil but one of my cylinder bores was oblong and egg shaped. I have my own tick video as well on my channel. I put 1k miles on the new motor and the tick came back shortly before I did my first oil change but only while the oil temp is cold. Bill, I can't say thank you enough for being brave enough to tackle this issue. I've tried to get several you tuber who have a substantial following to try and get answers for us laymen who love these cars. Like you said, a lot of people don't even own a 2018 Mustang and are just commenting on the issue, causing a more confusing frenzy. Then, when you watch these guys who are having the "actual" tick," the buy back horror", and dealerships who don't want to warranty a car....... to be honest it left a lump in throat. I waited three years to get my 2018 because I simply couldn't decide on a color. But when I saw the lighting blue version.....I was sold. I ordered it from Ford and have been receiving numerous compliments everywhere I go. When these issues started to surface, I ran across one you tuber who said that he was going to drive his 2018 and enjoy it. If it broke in any way, he would take it to Ford and Deal with it then. Right then, I got an epiphany. That was the best advise I could have got. I also decided to continue to drive it like a luxury car instead of spirited driving. I planned not going above 70 well after the break in miles, not flooring it and when I change the oil, I would ensure she gets the proper 10qts. I plan to wait until the car says its time to change. I have seen that people with 2018's changed their oil at 500 or 1000 miles! Why is that? Am I doing something wrong?? I have the Ford app and it says that my oil is at 50% of life before I need to change it. Also , I haven't modified it yet to see what transpires, if anything. The only modifications I want to do is, a cold air intake, headers, and a tune. Once again thank you for putting me at ease. I don't own a money tree, but $50 grand is still $50 grand. And by the way, My car don't have the tick. Owners say that it will happen after the first oil change.

Last march i bought a used 2017 Gt, I put a few thousand miles on it. The tick began after an oil change and i noticed right away. I got a new shortblock under warranty in May. 4 oil changes later the tick came back but louder, this time I have longtubes and OPG/timing sprocket. I am trying to have the longblock replaced this time, a couple weeks ago Ford Hotline advised to get my cam phasers replaced, sound is still there and rather loud and happening every day every drive. Stay tuned. I have a procharger in the garage ready to go after I am confident I can push the power.

I had it on my 11 and 12. When Ford would use their oil, tick was gone. They ended up doing quite a bit of work to both of them and after I did an oil change and used Royal Purple the tick came back. So I would say oil has a lot to do with it. I now have an 18 Shelby and so far no tick.
My tick only occurred when the oil was clean and up to temp. Once I had 3000 on the oil it wouldn’t do it. The hotter it was outside or the harder I pushed the motor it would tick worse.

War Gamer - I know that it has been 10 months since your post.

Let me start off by saying I don’t have a tick in my car and I have a 2019 a10 hellion twin turbo gt with 1800 miles. Someone else below me made a comment about the engine oil that they use, I like him, use the Joe Gibbs racing 5w50 that has additives already in it to avoid any kind of friction. I’ve had no issues with the tick and my car runs awesome. This issue is way blown out of proportion. Just like every manufacturer, there are bad apples out of the batch. It happens. For the most part most cars are good to go with no issues. Let’s just all enjoy our cars because they are amazing machines. For all of you that have a warranty, if something happens take it in and ford will take care of it. I could care less about a warranty and if something happens I’ll build this motor and make it even better.

I was wondering if Bill would ever make a video talking about this. My tick started around 800 miles with factory oil. I switched to M1 EP 5w20 at 1,000mi, and it got worse. It started subsiding over time as carbon built up in the oil. At 3,400mi, I switched again to Pennzoil UP 5w30, and the tick was even more noticeable, even though he oil is better than M1. Found no metal (maybe 5-6 tiny flea sized flakes) after straining all 10qts of oil, and inspecting the filter. So, I added 1/2 bottle of Ceratec, which got rid of 90% of the tick. I also had a rattle at 1,200rpm on up, so I installed an A/C belt tensioner, which eliminated that rattling noise up front. May have been the compressor making noise from using a stretchy belt. Since some minor remnants of the tick still remained, I added another 1/2 bottle of Ceratec at 5,000mi, and now the tick and all rattling is completely gone.
My recommendation for this car, is just add 1/2 bottle of Ceratec if you don't have a tick and add 1 bottle of Ceratec if you do have a tick after about 200 miles of ownership and the rings are seated. 1 full bottle of Ceratec is really enough. Adding 2 whole bottles for 10qts of oil really isn't necessary, even if you already have the tick.

The tick has stopped altogether sometime after 5,500 miles. I changed the oil 3 times because I was looking for metal and haven't found any metal in the oil, filter or separator. Factory recommended oil 5w-20 Motorcraft. I despise dealerships so I won't bring it in unless it fails.

When I return home that night I noticed a specific noise that kinda resembles a type writer and I could feel it was in sync with the fuel lines . I changed the oil at 1100 miles , old school , end of the break in . I have not noticed anything out of ordinary for a 4 cam 32 valve duel fuel injected engine . Even if the tick isn't bothering anything, it's annoying. Especially so if it occurs/heard while driving as well as some manual owners have reported at low RPMs. My '15 GT Whipple never had a tick that I ever noticed. But the 18s/19s seem to be quite common. Bottom line: if you're getting a new GT, you are quite frankly shelling out a good chunk of change to roll the dice that you won't have an annoying issue. My 2019 Mustang Bullitt has the tick from time to time. I do have to keep a close eye on the oil level in the engine. The tick seems to be worse when the oil level gets down one quart. I'm still using the Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-20. I plan on changing to Motorcraft full synthetic 5W-30 at the 10,000 oil change. Funny thing about oil additives like Ceratech and BG44K. Ford specifically says in the owner's manual don't use them because they aren't necessary, and could void the warranty if you do. My local Ford dealer offers BG44K as part of an oil change service package.

I have it in my 2012 GT. I used an oil additive and it seemed to quiet it down a hair, but nothing serious

Another theory on the tick is a loose timing chain caused by s cheap tensioner. It goes away when warm because the tensioner has heated up and spinning better.

I have a 2017 mustang GT and I do have this noise as well. It’s really intermittent and inconsistent that I never thought it was an issue. I thought it was metal expansion due to change in temperatures as I hardly ever hear it when the car is warmed up

I bought a new 2014 GT that had the tick since day one ( under the car ) only would tick at low RPM when fully warm with 5W50 . I put over 30+ road course track days on that car and had no engine or transmission issues. Tick was still there when I traded it with 19K miles.
