Yeah. It took like 8 years to make the sequel, with great graphics, mechanics, bot engines, story, both maps (guarma and mainland), characters, character development and design, easter eggs, dialogue and creative ideas that ultimately inspire a lot of great games today, including ones that I plan on making if I ever learn how to code, and fortnite probably still took a lot of time and effort to make, but it didn't and won't ever come close.

True, the og doom games revolutionised the entire PC gaming industry. Leading to the existence of many of the games we know to this day. If fact Doom 1 was one of (maybe the first) game to ever use upwards movement, as in elevation as an entirety.
i think the points in this video are pretty valid, but i think it's important to consider the fact these games were mostly only good in their prime. this means they aren't as timeless as some other games are, which does knock them down a few points.
@@ididntfeellikemakingafullnameno it doesn’t. We are the player base. Unless this “player base” is just you and your friends Fortnite is nowhere near where it used to be. Why do you think they are so obsessed with OG in the first place?
I think Stardew Valley should also be considered. It was developed by one guy, is chill or intense depending on what you decide to do, and also even if somebodies favorite video game is something else, everyone still knows it and loves it. I don't know a single hater of Stardew.
For me, prime Minecraft exceeds all because even outside of the nostalgia of sometime around 2014 even if I wasn’t playing around that time, but that’s when the original Xbox 360 version came out and that led into bedrock edition which created the best cross platform game of all time to me, yeah did the same thing that Fortnite did and it worked really well the only issue was Java addition
That's true, but that doesn't mean it's in the conversation of 'Greatest Of All Time' when it comes to videogames. It was fun, sure, but everyone only says this game because of nostalgia, if it doesn't even hold up in the big 2025 anymore, how can you consider THAT a 'GOAT'? It's not even that good anymore, and you need to have played it back in 2014 so you know 'how good it was'.
@Narree-61 Despite it "not being relevant or fun anymore," it still has a huge fanbase and a company that cares about the fans and how they want to see it grow. Maybe it's not as obvious as a fan base as Fortnite, But Fortnite's probably died way more than Minecraft has and more of its fans have turned on the game. Basically I think minecraft probably has a better shot at "GOAT" than fortnite does even if fortnite lovers are the vocal minority of the gaming genre.
@@destroyur7 That's technically true, but I think both are bad. Fortnite made studios realize that microtransactions and battlepasses actually work, so they used it in their own games for money.
When it comes to innovation, Nintendo probably has done the most. They created the 1981 hit “Donkey Kong” and also made platforming games a reality when they made “Super Mario Bros” in 1985. No to mention “Super Mario 64” as well, which brought an entirely new dimension to video games.
As a switch player, my conversation of the greatest game ever includes a bunch of switch-exclusive classics like Zelda games and such, but nobody takes me seriously because it just sounds so ridiculous
my top 5 for games that changes the gaming industry and are some of the most liked are: tetris, mario, minecraft, tf2, and doom. the reasons are, tetris made gaming popular, mario popularized platform games, minecraft expanded and popularized the random generation genre, tf2 helped popularize cosmetics, transactions, movement and FPS, and last DOOM popularized FPS, helped companies understand code a bit more, and made some of the first 3D graphics.
Fortnite shouldn't be in that conversation solely because of what it does to the franchises it touches. I can't quite explain it, but when something enters Fortnite, it takes something from them. Imo, this is most apparent with Godzilla, but I can't describe it and I've been trying to for weeks.
Ok, not even biased here but the original Half-Life was probably the most revolutionary. It was the first to show that not all shooters have to be mindless and can be story-driven, which paved the way for campaigns in other big shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield. Not only that, it also presented the idea of the One Man Army; where you, as a single player, fight off dozens of enemies with a very large arsenal. It also presented never before seen mechanics such as the Long Jump and environmental hazards. These are important, if not core values of gaming today.
