I imagine Marcus Freeman shares that sentiment. He's a great coach and a solid guy, I'd really like to see his team win the chip this year.
The problem is with your statement, not all white people feel that way. At the end of the day, y'all don't go through what we go through. So yeah he is right, but at the same time, we would love for y'all to acknowledge that racism and discrimination STILL exist. Treat us normally, but don't be ignorant either m

His point was don’t be phony and use your acknowledgment of bigotry as a way to boost yourself by glazing people just because they’re a different race, because then you’re still treating them different just because of their race. That’s why coach here did what he did. He didn’t want it to be about him and his race, he wanted it to be about his team and their accomplishment, regardless of his skin color. The media is merely reflecting American society. America is obsessed with race. So much so that outsiders recognise it as “America’s thing”! Seriously, it’s seen as very American to be so obsessed by race.
I am so old I remember when Tiger Woods was utterly castigated by the media for daring to recognize his Asian mother as being part of his ancestry and not just 100% his black father.
Race card access ,he is superior genetics in evil white men world ,that why blacks are superior genetics stronger and smarter, whites by Darwin law are weak and wimpy ,look at who the lgbtq community ran by weak whites to fool blacks to he gay ,never that

I feel insulted on behalf of the non-black parent when mixed-race (one race is black) people are ONLY considered black. I mean, an Asian women carried him and birthed him, could have br3ast fed him, and likely participated greatly in raising him, but she is completely omitted from the discussion. Wild.
Welp, most mixed-race people with black/brown skin are seen as Black or Brown first. That's how race works. Be prepared to raise and love Black kids if they have a Black parent.
@daharris41 he's not black. Half of his DNA comes from an Asian woman. This means that he's mixed unless you think that black means half Asian . Your hypothetical about what you think I or others would refer to him as is irrelevant.
@ it’s not irrelevant because it’s been happening since this country started. If you have 1 drop of black blood you’re considered black in this country. Apparently you’re not from USA 🇺🇸 because that’s been happening forever.
As a black man, the only reason why being the first black anything is major is because there hasn’t been many of us who get recognized let alone, an opportunity to rise in the ranks at such a caliber. Mainly also to the “1 drop rule”. However, I’m not mad at Marcus at all. If that’s how he feels, let it be. I’ll also say, it’s a big deal thanks to laws and regulations that were implemented way back then. If people don’t want to hear this question so many times and are plainly tired of it, gotta remember who’s really to blame for all of it.
"laws and regulations that were implemented back then" What? When? Why? Everyone has the same opportunity if they can prove they have the intellect and qualifications. If this had anything to do with race, he wouldn't even be in the championship game. Think about it. It's like everybody is saying that some sort of ban was lifted and that they finally allowed it to happen, Lol. Think about it. He got there all on his own. Oh wait, I'm guessing you didn't mean 24hrs, so how many hours is it? Lol. You are looking for racism. Many people see what you're doing, and a huge majority of them are black. I’m really surprised at these comments. I probably shouldn’t be. But I am. Thankful no one is being mean. Everyone is being very complimentary. But hear me out! MORE THAN ONE THING CAN BE TRUE, everyone. Everything he continually states after being asked that question, is absolutely TRUE and should be celebrated. Just as his Blackness should be celebrated. But it’s not race baiting to acknowledge a fact. He’s a black man coaching in a National Championship Game with a chance at History. How is that NOT a topic of conversation? If ESPN didn’t acknowledge it, as journalists, they’d be dead wrong. It confuses me how folks get bothered by the media acknowledging it. Like it’s not important. It’s VERY important. Important for the ones that came before him and the ones that are coming after him. IT’S HUGE!! Acknowledging his Blackness doesn’t mitigate any other nationality’s existence. More than one thing can be true. Praise his blackness AND praise the other stuff ALSO! (TOO - Tee-Oh-Oh, in addition to, in conjunction with…). It’s very possible. Think about it everyone.
America's obsession with race is never-ending. 🙄 And her ignoring his Asian roots is the real problem, as it is linked specifically to her internalized view of the "one -drop rule" of "race-mixing" that ONLY lets her see his "partial Blackness" as his sole identity. But it wasn't just her-'check the ESPN khyron!! It says the same thing, so you know that there was a producer in her ear and visual editors pushing the same narrative. A shame, really, but as Childish Gambino noted, "This is America 🇺🇸 "
Don't agree this was race baiting. There wasn't anything wrong with the question because it mentioned his accomplishment as a black or mixed raced person. What he did was selflessly shift the focus on the team's accomplishments, not on himself. Which I find admirable.
Sorry to tell you but your kids are blk bro lol and society will definitely let them know that they are blk if they do something wrong lol only time your kids will be acknowledged for being half korean, if they're doing something positive

I didn't hear or see that, but I did see how Coach Freeman's eyes watered and his voice trembled. He gave a great answer that most people missed. He didn't deny that racism exists in the hiring of minority head coaches, but what he did do was answer it in such a way that wouldn't alienate people. He wisely used the word HOPE. Why do you think he chose to use the word hope?

All she needed to say was congratulations!! It’s 2025, why are you saying anything about color instead of saying you as a coach and your team has done a great job to be in this position!
Why is it that they want to proclaim that Freeman is ‘black’ but discount or make it irrelevant entirely that he’s half Korean by blood. He’s not a black man, he’s mixed.
*I find it peculiar that wypipo are so bothered & triggered when questions around race are brought up.....when they're the ones who profit/benefit from this racial divide THEY CREATED....make it make sense!!!* 🤔🤔
@clashersports I hear your position as to using more generic terms when making references to a person of achievement. Am puzzled, therefore, as to why at 1:00 you refer to the sportscaster being viewed by a vast audience as “this female reporter”.
I don't think the reporter was playing the race card as was stated. She asked a question about him being the first black man, etc. but this country is so sensitive now that any discussion of race is deemed as playing the race card. What she said is not wrong and the title of this video is so misleading because Freeman didn't check the reporter, just answered her question in an eloquent fashion to keep the shine on his team.
This is sad. I am sure he isn’t playing I’m not black card when recruiting black athletes. It’s a slap in the face to all the black coaches that challenged the status quo that created the opportunity for him to be a head coach. Just as if there was no MLK if there was no Coach Eddie Robinson black coaches would have no opportunity in college football no matter how excellent they are as coaches or men.

Deion Sanders has more TALENT, more WINNING, and more MONEY MAKING ABILITY in his thumb… than 95% of the coaches in college. Sanders is not going that different of a route than Jim Harbaugh did. Sanders definitely has Harbaugh on the money-making ability. As for going to Colorado, he has more leverage there and more than likely has more say than a better program. He probably has less headaches internally. He can mold the program how he wants to. Hopefully, Coach Sanders can get to 100% in physical health. And he and his family keep succeeding.

@ American style racism is so insidious and pervasive it can be psychologically destabilizing. It’s not always someone burning crosses on your yard or calling you the “n” word. Blacks are so used to being discriminated against that it can warp your sense of objective reality. If your yard is infested with poisonous snakes, you might become so vigilant that you flee from a twisted tree branch or a length of rope in the grass. So yes, sometimes it’s hard to know whether someone of a different race is mistreating you because of your color. It is a form of the PTSD soldiers experience post-combat. Our best defense is to keep fighting off the poisonous vipers attacking us, and if we slay a branch or two in the process, so be it. But for anyone else to suggest that anti-Black racism is a mainly a figment of our imagination is abject ignorance at the very least, or an act of racism in itself.

Rich ppl race baiting. Bro is a legend now regardless of color….its about ability and results!!
Couldn’t imagine them talking about my skin color after a huge win. Gross.
Translated, he's simply saying "Just treat everyone fairly and make opportunities equal and fair for all, then the question becomes irrelevant".
That's why I don't watch ESPN anymore. They are the Kings and Queens of creating false, meaningless, and/or untrue narratives.
This is weird. When they mention the winningest head coach, the youngest head coach, or the oldest head coach it’s ok. But when they state a proven fact of him being the first black head coach it’s a problem?? They’re race baiting?? Why they didn’t mention his Korean ethnicity?? Anything black is a problem. Totally not realizing the fact that he is the FIRST black head coach to make it to a national championship IS A FREAKING PROBLEM & a pretty BIG DEAL!! Weirdos!!! 😑
