    I'm so glad that the crappy month of May is now behind me. Excited to be back into the MCU and I hope you enjoyed this reaction! You'll notice the editing is a bit different in this video. 👀 Last month I was sort of forced to abandon the editing program I've been using since the start of this channel and learn a new one. So I decided to really buckle down and LEARN. And with that came an understanding that I could make things better and more efficient. So I'm gonna try this out for a bit and see how it goes. The biggest headache will be clearing copyright - it's a bit more difficult doing it with this style of editing over my previous style. But I'm willing to give it my best shot. 🤞 I appreciate your support and thank you for being here. ❤

      I find it very sad that you don’t really appreciate the humor in these Guardian movies. You have to take in to account that Drax’s character is primarily way too literal in his understanding of language. But, yes, it’s a means to inject some very silly humor and it’s a trademark of the franchise. I for one, loved it and appreciate it. I’d hope that if you rewatch, that you’d grow to appreciate the humor as well.

Probably the greatest comic book movie of all time. Captain America Civil War has very little in common with the comics. Hell most of the Infinity Saga is a departure. The issue is whether the change makes sense or fundamentally undermines an established character.

    But you put your opinions above all else, and it makes your reactions refreshing. I mention it, because the 1st Guardians is usually on everyone’s top 5-10 movies. And it is usually in the middle for me haha. Thanks for your reactions and hope your channel succeeds more and more ❤️

    The whole trilogy has been about Rocket Raccoon.
    Guardians 1, “He called me vermin, she called me rodent! I didn’t ask to be torn apart and be put back together over and over.” -Rocket.
    Guardians 2, “I was cybernetically engineered to pilot a spacecraft.” -Rocket. “You can fool yourself and everyone else, but you can’t fool me. I know who you are… I know everything about you. I know you play like you’re the meanest in the heart but actually you’re the most scared of all…I know you steal batteries you don’t need and push away anyone who’s willing to put up with you because just a little bit of love reminds you of how big and empty that hole inside you actually is…I know them scientist what made you never gave a rats ass about you…Just like my own damn parents who sold me, their own little baby to slavery. I know who you are boy, because you’re me” -Yondu.

    the difference between most other movies and this one when it comes to the music is that it's actually part of the story and exists within the movie, often the characters are listening to the same music, such as when Groot and Quill are listening to the funeral song at the end, it's not just the walkman that he carried with him for years, his ship has a built in cassette player which you see a few times. For me that makes it way more meaningful than the music in most other movies. Some movies have "radio music" just randomly playing in the background and it has no connection with anything and doesn't exist within what's happening, in those cases I agree it's more tacky. Not here.
    Baby Groot has his own show on Disney+, so it's not the last time you see him, but for other future adventures he wont be a baby anymore.

    However I respect that not everyone is going to feel the same way about every movie. Your sense of humor is of course different than mine as is your taste in music. I respect that. Moreover, I respect that you are willing to say it in your reaction and review without feeling pressure to like a movie just because it is popular even if it didn't hit for you. I am glad I have been subscribed and looking forward to your future reviews. Now I am off to see your take on Spider-Man: Homecoming. 😊

    Great to see you back, Kaiielle! I was wondering where you've been. So sorry to hear that you were unwell, and I hope you'll recover fully soon.
    I can understand your feeling that some of the humour falls flat in this story, but it's heartening that the more touching moments spoke to you. I'm also glad to hear that you have a greater appreciation for the first Guardians movie. James Gunn has really told a big story with these characters over the three films, and each following movie informs the ones that came before. I hope you'll enjoy what comes next for Groot and his friends 🌳
    As for the Sovereign being ineffectual as villains -- well, I can't dispute that, but there's a reason for it. Much more than that, I can't tell you.

  • @CaptainAmercia
    @CaptainAmercia ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The soundtrack is very much a James Gunn thing, Starlord never actually had a Walkman in the comics it was just something Gunn added to the character that's now made it's way into the comics. Gunn's Superman film for example I highly doubt he'll go for a heavily licenced soundtrack for the film but wouldn't complain if they use (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman - Kinks, Superman - R.E.M., Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down, and Five for Fighting - Superman (It's Not Easy) to name a few. So yeah I feel like the music is unique to the Guardians films.

    I don’t think you understand Drax. He is explained to be extremely surface level in everything and extremely literal. My favorite moment in the whole film is when he and Mantis are sitting on the steps and he’s thinking of his daughter and he has such a mixture of joy and profoujd sadness while thinking of her. Then Mantis touches him to experience what he is feeling and she has such a visceral reaction. I think it gets invalidated by her about to tell Drax about the dark stuff and Gamora walking in. The profoundness of Drax isn’t what he says, but what he DOESN’T say. He’s like a reverse Vulcan. He’s all out there and he also experiences things DEEPLY.

    Personally, I rank this Guardians movie just a tiny bit higher than the first. Baby Groot is adorable, there's some good character development with Rocket (Groot and Rocket are my favorite Guardians characters), we're introduced to Mantis, and Ego is a good, memorable villain. Those are the tipping points for me. Especially Ego. Ronin in the first movie (the bad guy, in case you forgot his name, which I couldn't blame anyone for since he was so forgettable) was supposed to be this tough, scary dude, but he hardly did anything in the movie at all. He was almost an afterthought. That's the biggest difference between the two for me.
    Looking forward to your future reactions MCU and otherwise. And wishing you continued health improvement until you're back to 💯

    The fin is Yondu's original comic look, when I saw it I nerded a little lol
    Also, Ego is NOT actually a Celestial, he most likely just told them that to feed his, um... ego :P In the comics he doesn't actually know *what* he is, and has many different theories on how he came to be. Waaaaay back in the original comics he claimed he was the mind of a scientist merged with his planet when the star went supernova :P

    I want someone to do a What if story on Yondu's survival having enough time to make it to the ship with Peter in his arms. I pictured Peter embracing Yondu as he joins the Guardians of the Galaxy electing Quill the new Captain inheritance to what remains of Yondu's ship so Yondu just hops along for the ride as he tells his adopted son "I'm so proud of you, Quill. You were always the son I longed for. Hell, I love you." "I love you, too, Yondu." Peter says back. Then Yondu gives him the Zune after all as a welcome home present 🎁.

    I'm one of those people who when I first watched this movie, and while I enjoyed it, I still liked the first movie more. However over time after I rewatched both movies a few times (okay several) I came to the realization that I actually enjoy this one more than the first one (more character development and heart to it). I still haven't seen the third one... so I don't know where I'd rank that yet.

  • @Drake844221
    @Drake844221 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, for me, this is stronger than the first movie. A huge part of that is because when it came out, I was already a stepdad to a kid with a pretty... horrible "first dad." So Yondu's arc, with the whole "He may have been your father, but he wasn't your daddy" thing... hit... and hits really hard for me. Even if my kid is a teenager now, and doesn't appreciate how I do things these days. Still, I work very hard to give them a better life than they would have had before. Either way, this movie is probably the one that made Guardians of the Galaxy one of my top-tier groups within the MCU. The heart that is present in their story is just... phenomenal. I won't say anything about the third one. However, I will say that The Holiday Special does contain things that move the ball forward, so you really _should_ watch it. Anyway, Mary Poppins signing off 🏹
    Also, when it comes to the music, I love the idea that it is, effectively, Peter's mother talking to him. Awesome Mix Volume 2 was her way of speaking directly to him for after her passing.
    Oh, and as for Baby Groot, you really need to watch the I Am Groot shorts on Disney+🌳

    I know you feel the need to be defensive over your dislike of the Guardians movies so far, but honestly it's so nice to have a unique opinion on these movies after we've been inundated with Guardians love for almost 10 years now. I personally adore the movies (I'm part of the camp that prefers 2 to 1, too!) but I completely understand finding the constant humor distracting. At the end of the day, I always come back to how these movies handle the growth of the characters, and the Guardians team is up there with Tony Stark in terms of satisfying and compelling character development in the MCU. There's more coming up that I hope you'll love! 🌱

    Glad you enjoyed this one, even with all the caveats. Which is kind of how I feel about it.
    I think this movie is a mix of high highs and low lows.
    The humor in this one really took me out of it, especially the tazerface stuff (and right around the dark moment of the crew being killed). The jokes just feels more blunt and dragged out, so if it didn't work for you it lingered. Rocket has several moments like that. Same with Drax; they made him dumber overall which I wasn't a fan of, but also gave him some really great lines.
    On the flipside I really love the Ego / Yondu / Peter and Gamora / Nebula stuff. The themes of family and friends, broken and found homes really worked for me.
    It's a tough one to rate but the highs bring me back to it more often than Part 1, so I suppose that means I like it more lol.
    Looking forward to your next video! 🌱

    🪵 So , GotG one is my favourite of the 2 (and 3 ) BUT , there are aspects of the movies that i like more from 2 and 3 . Yondu is the main Character in 2 guys lets face it. And believe it or not ,i cried at the "he wasn't your daddy" and when i saw kraglin how happy he was that the ravangers came . That showed how much Kraglin respected Yondu and loved him as a person.
    I fully understand the feelings you have about humor or the movie in general and why those are not your cup of tea . I have a friend that feels this way about Lord of the rings. It is all personal preference at the end of it.

    This is the first MCU movie I saw alone in movie theaters (twice). I love it, but I prefer the first. I rank the first very high on my MCU list. The first movie (to me) has more joy/ less sorrow. And the childish humor isn’t as frequent or forced.

    Was wondering if you would like this one more. Some do, some don't. For me it depends on the person. The theme around family and what REAL family means to someone is pretty well told. And I don't think most people in theatres had a dry eye when Yandu said to Quill:
    "He may have been your father, but he wasn't your daddy.."
    Think that line can hit hard for a lot of people with actually GOOD fathers and step fathers, adoptive fathers etc. :)

    The Guardians of the Galaxy wiki tells me that this emoji combo represents Groot (baby or otherwise): 👀🌳
    I actually did prefer the first movie over the second, even with the flaws you pointed out (which I mostly agree with). The lackluster villain was made up for in my eyes by the sheer number of "villains" who wound up being friends, which provided for the type of sophomoric humor which I still enjoy. 😄
    Glad to see you back and feeling better! 💜

    Idk how to rank these movies in the MCU because they feel so out of the "main" story, but they do have the huge merit to introduce these memorable characters (in a good or bad way, that's up to you, but they sure are memorable 😂). I think I like them more than the usual origin story type of movie (Thor, the first Cap, Ant-man etc).

    It’s interesting my friends that aren’t big fans of Marvel/superhero movies have told me one aspect they dislike is that a lot of the enemies are evil versions of the main character. Iron man had to fight someone in their own iron man suit, captain America fought Red Skull, AntMan fought the Yellow Jacket etc. but they all have said they liked Guardians of the Galaxy. I feel like the first Guardians movie enemy was one where he wasn’t evil main character and it made the least impact on you haha.

    • @kaiielle
      @kaiielle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Different strokes for different folks! The enemy being similar to the main character isn't something that really detracts for me. I like really memorable villains, and the one from the first Guardians just wasn't for me. Red Skull isn't all that memorable either and I had issues with him, but Hydra as a whole is memorable.

    I wasn't the biggest fan of this movie at first but now I can't help but get emotional at Yondu's death, and I now hold this movie in higher regard. I enjoy your honest opinions about the MCU; surprised you have the GotG movies so low in your rankings as they are usually in most folks' higher echelons.
    James Gunn directed the Guardians movies, and I think he just knows how to put hero teams together in movies in the wackiest and awesome ways. He also directed DC's "The Suicide Squad" which was also very good. Not to be confused with the earlier "Suicide Squad" which was awful. I hope he can turn it around at DC because they need the help.

  • @Zamrod
    @Zamrod ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I definitely prefer the first movie to this one. The first movie had more humour and I definitely love the humour in these movies. It also felt more epic, there were more planets being visited, a big space battle that felt like it was more important, a cool prison break, and it was the first real movie to give us an explanation of the infinity stones and showed us Thanos for the first real time. Because the stones are a theme among most of the previous moves, it felt more connected to the greater story of the MCU.
    I think a lot of us were looking forward to seeing how guardians 2 would advance the metaplot of the MCU, and it didn't really. Plus, it dramatically changed the background of Peter Quill from the comics so that was a disappointment for people. Plus, as you remarked, the Sovereign aren't great villains. They are played as a joke and their entire fleet gets wiped out super easily... twice. Plus, it's major threat, Ego, is kind of removed from the rest of the universe. He is threatening the test of the universe and you know, intellectually that he'll destroy it but the scale of it and the fact that it is just a blue goo that grows makes it kind of abstract to the point where it is difficult to feel threatened by it.
    But Yondu still makes this movie great.

    for whatever reason, i didn’t like this movie as much on first watch, but upon rewatching, I was surprised how much more i preferred it over the first. Definitely felt more like the plot and villains were directly connected to the main characters.

    Glad to see you liked this one more than the first. I really don't understand why people liked the first one that much more than this one... I love all three but this one is easily my favorite because it's so emotional, and yeah, the connection with his fathers helps a lot with that. I do get that I have a similar connection with my fathers as Quill does with his, and that helps, but even if I didn't have an asshole biological father and a great adopted father, I would still see how good a story it is and the heart behind it all.
    Edit: I do both agree and disagree with you about scores in movies. I prefer them when they're done right, but sadly, they stopped being a part of the movie the way they were in the 80s and 90s (and before that) and nowadays they're generally background music that doesn't add to the movie as much as they just fill empty space... Like, I can't really think of many great scores that I can hum since Lord of the Rings, the only exception being the Avengers theme, and ONLY that theme from the series, anything else from all of those movies I wouldn't recognize from any other modern score.

    Drax's species is very literal, and he has no inner monologue. So whatever he is thinking or feeling just comes out. You said he's very "12 year old boy", but that only applies to humans. He's an alien. In fact every member of the Guardians is an alien. Even Quill is half alien. So judging them like humans is just the wrong standard.
