Thank you for the stroll down memory lane. These were my old stomping grounds in the late 60's and 70's...:)

Thank you so much! I lived in the apartments at Montreal & Mona, next to the Lafontaine for several years in the late 1970s, and recall talking this stroll many times during a bus strike in the late 70s. I worked downtown at DND HQ! I also recall many trips with the family along Montreal Road in the 50s and 60s. You brought back so many memories -once again, thank you!

Lived on Lavergne Street in Eastview... before moving to Claude Street (behind Rideau HS) in 1960.
My dad worked part-time at the Eastview Hotel as a bartender for 15+ years.
My mom presently resides at the long-term-care centre behind the Montfort Hospital
My first job at age 15 was at the Steinbergs @ Montreal Road/Centre Street.
My sister and many female cousins attended the Notre Dame convent.
Many, many relatives lived in Eastview... (Houles, Lafortunes, Bourgons)... some still do.
Many Sunday masses, weddings and unfortunately funerals at Notre Dame church
I remember ALL the old landmarks. Beautiful trip down memory lane... one I physically walked many times.
Too bad Belisle Automobile or the Eastview Community Centre weren't in the video.
Merci Jean pour les belles memoires. Robert Dupuis

Thanks for posting, it was very enjoyable to see Montréal Rd. as it was back in the 50’s and 60’s. I lived on Rainsford Ave during the 1960’s and recall vividly the small town atmosphere of Eastview as I walked or took the local OTC bus for 10 cents fare. Merci!

Quels beaux souvenirs. Mes parents vivaient sur St-Laurent près du chemin Montréal. A 15 ans je lavais de la vaisselle à Montfort. Quelle belle église Notre-Dame de Lourdes, emportée par les flammes.

I was a kid living in Eastview/Vanier when that photo was taken. The my mom worked at that Woolworth's store and the construction behind the mall are the white govt. buildings at McArthur & River Rd. North. I remember when they were being built as I walked to school past them every day.

Merci M. Ouellette d'avoir fait ce vidéo. I am forwarding this to my mother. She is a Landriault and I'm pretty sure that at least one Landriault shop shown in your video belonged to my grandfather's brother. I, myself, was born at the Montfort, as were my other sisters. Not sure if all three of us were born there. At one time, we lived on Borthwick Avenue but moved (thank God) to a better neighbourhood in Aylmer QC in the 1960s. Borthwick wasn't all bad, though. It is there that all of us girls had very caring babysitters while my parents worked. The place we lived in is now a completely renovated semi and the selling price reflected the many upgrades. My mother was raised in Lower Town and much later, her parents and the rest of her sibblings moved to Mutual St. Like many franco-Ontarions, many family members are buried at Notre-Dame de Lourdes Cemetery. I cannot count the number of stories my mother and her family have shared with us. Even though, my mother grew up in Lower Town, everyone used to hang out in Eastview. I recognize many, many of the stores, restaurants, the movie theatre, and even taverns in your video on the Montréal Rd. strip. I loved the music you chose to accompany your mini film. Thank you again. I am sending this not only to my mother and her boyfriend, but also to an aunt or two, my sisters, a good friend of mine and everyone else I know who grew up near or around Vanier. My mother lives in Vanier now and has been there for too many years for me to remember how many. Vanier has certainly changed. Some good things, some not so good. My mother calls all the noise on Montréal Rd. the Vanier Symphony. This is referring, of course, to all the sirens, car chases, loud drunken idiots, etc. It is so unfortunate that the past charm of Vanier-- and of other modest, working class, family-oriented neighbourhoods could not be sheltered from the consequences of so-called "progress". I am, however, very grateful that my mother lives in a nice place and it is centrally located. I can't wait to hear my mother's reaction to your video.
