Hey Chesca this is my first time commenting on any of your posts. But I find doing them separately instead of in groups, although it takes more time, it also gives it more volume. And if you want to keep it in for longer you might think about tying it with some black/brown yarn, makes it look a lot better at the top and in the back, but again, it takes a long time. I love your hairstyles, you helped inspire me to keep my locs!!!!
when you do this style, you have to fold your locs under the rubber band to hide the ends of the locs. using less locs per rubberband also helps conceal them.
I tried this style after I saw your first video and it turned out really cute. If you band your ends under instead of on top you can hide them a lot better. Plus I used three locks for each petal.
I think it would work if you did that technique with the bottom layer of locs. Then pin the locs that are visible (top layer) *under* the bottom layer of locs. Don't rubber band or pin them to themselves. Instead, take a few locs from the top layer at the tips, lift bottom layer, tuck ends under, and pin. I hope that makes sense. Sorry if it didn't!
With the hat, the look is totally amazing. Without a hat, I wonder if you still have to style them so the length is draped over the topmost roots/tips. In other words, build a style on top of - or using your loc petal style as the base. I still can't get over the hat option, it really was awesome. That look gave you so much body. They looked like loose waves - just really pretty.
Hi CHesca, i did this a couple months ago off of your first video. What i did was double up in the back, but when you get to the front, only 1 rubberband per lock and make sure the end is on the underside of the rubberdand, the petal flows better
Try the brick layering method. The top petals should be layered shorter than the bottom half to hide most of the rubber bands and give them a cleaner look and/ or you can eliminate the rubber bands from the very top back row for a more polished look. But,honestly, this looked gorg on you. I'd rock it as is anyways. Hawt.
My loc stylist created loc petals for me her very first time and she used kinki afro hair to wrap at the base instead of using rubber bands so it looks neater
I did this style last year, but made the petals with each individual loc. It took longer, but the results were great. Doing it this way allowed me to rubber band them much closer to the scalp and made it look like the locs grew like that. The only rubber bands visible were along the part.
Sometimes if I want to do petals I don't retwist my roots after a wash and just loop the locks through the new growth. It usually looks a little neater that way.
The best way to conceal the loose ends is to wrap to rubberband a few times to cover the ends. You need little rubber bands that stretch or you can use more than one.
I have a whole bunch of decorative straight pins--they won't help with the rubberbands, but at least you'll have decorative (Flowers, in my case) all over your petal locs!
I appreciate your transparency. I actually think it looks good. But the hat definitely makes it look more polished than it is. I do wonder what the Ebony stylist did to make it look like that. Have you tried reaching out to her and asking? Thanks for sharing this.
Do you think it would come out better if you did the locs individually? It looks like you did that two at a time. Maybe indivual would give it a fuller look. I still love the hair style.
Hi honey bun this is Camille will you start your lock panels you have to fold them 3 to 4 times at the roots to make room full that's the best way it looked to me Thanks for sure in any way
I'm gonna try this.. may loop twice. And maybe 3 times to have a fuller layerd top. Ill be back to say what happned. Tried the short one many times. .it rocks. Love it. But want a looser flow
I like it, hat or no hat. But if you were going for a more "polished" kind of look, maybe do just one or two locks at a time. I think the shine from the plastic bands was what made it noticeable. One idea I just had - you could make it more noticeable on purpose and use beads or something fancy like that. Might hurt to sleep on, though.
I just tried and it looks neat on top. I use wool not rubber bands. I learnt to use wool the hard way because the first time the rubber bands popping and breaking. *very embarrassing *
You can't win 'em all. You're 1 out of 113 ain't too shabby. BUT... It looks really great with the hat on!! Maybe it's just a hat hairstyle. Zoe J's suggestion is a good one; folding them under rather than up? You can do no wrong in our eyes, Chescalocs!!
Hey Chesca! I have a tutorial on this loc style on my channel. It works well if you let your roots grow out a bit. Also, if you put the ends under instead of over you don't see the ends sticking up. th-cam.com/video/b24bDvjS1Z8/w-d-xo.html hope this helps!
That would definitely be more invisible but it would take much longer. If one planned to keep the style for several weeks it would be worth the time investment though.

I've had the same "problem" with this style. Put the locks through the roots at the top instead of using rubber bands and pins to hold it.

You never cease to amaze me with your humor and talent. Very inspirational!

Looks great. I love the volume.
Would clear bands have worked better? Great style!

i love that SOOO much it frames your face so well.

U should do the petals individual up top to make them appear fuller or individual period .
I was literally thinking about trying a hat with that style then you said it!
Berets, scarves, bandanas a-go-go! I can so see you channelling your 60's flower child whilst covering your hairpins #werk
Maybe try looping them one by one as it gets closer to the crown of your head. Maybe that will give your style the fuller and neater look.
Maybe do flat twist on top and tuck locs under using clear rubber bands. Love the hat!!!!!

It still looks super cute!!!
Too cute with the hat! Just rock it like that!
Grrreat WINTER look!
it looks very good with the hat!

Maybe you should try putting the lock ends under the elastic band instead of on top. I will try this style and send you a pic
hi Natalie here is there a hairstyle that I could use to wrap ribbon around or through my hair for medium length hair?
Hi honey bun this is Camille will you start your lock panels you have to fold them 3 to 4 times at the roots to make room full that's the best way it looked to me Thanks for sure in any way

Love it! It would look perfect with floral accessories
Can you only use straight or Bobby pins so you don't have rubber bands showing? I really like it with the hat.
Love your efforts Chesca!! I am going to try this style tonight!
They make clear plastic bands also. Try the style again useing those, might help. Cute effort though even cuter with the hat :-)
Check out Nyaa Tenee's loc fro...fabulous and neat. You'll love it...she doubles the locs
A "Monet" hairstyle, lol! Luv it with the hat though. Great save!

It is cute! Especially with a beenie
Love it really looks good
At the top, maybe looping them individually would be better instead of many at a time.
Would it have been better if you done them individually locs instead...
I just tried and it looks neat on top. I use wool not rubber bands. I learnt to use wool the hard way because the first time the rubber bands popping and breaking. *very embarrassing *
It's super cute with the hat. :)
i LOVE it on you and you did great
That's why I have silk scarfs and I get compliments when they hide lazy or failed hair styles..

I can't wait for my locs to grow your length, so that I can try this myself. You did alright though.

You look so cute with that hat
maybe if you folded them under instead of up??
hey just wanted to say I am very happy for you and your husband wish you all the best in your married
It looks great from the front and with he hat! Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions. Sorry!
Styles that don't ever turn our for me: Bantu knots, story of my life. I just don't even bother anymore with them lol.
Instead of rubber bands I was thinking of using string or yarn? Just a thought..
That would definitely be more invisible but it would take much longer. If one planned to keep the style for several weeks it would be worth the time investment though.
Actually, it looks nice.
My Bantu knot outs never come out right...my hair just ends up in a wavy-ish puff on the top of my head...my Bantu knot outs=FAIL
btw Im 6mths along
I like it, very unique style. Looks cute on you although your disappointed with the results.
try using pipe cleaners cut instead of rubber bands!
posted my pic on your IG
A for effort. I think the hat is a good idea :-) .
qochemist gives a tutorial on petal locs. Check it out, it might help with the concealing next time you try.
