You should try 2M pops with a 0-0-0 dart monkey, but on easy mode to make it possible. You'll have to disable knowledge as there aren't enough pops to reach 2M with knowledge enabled due to big bloon sabotage. It's probably possible, I was able to get 1.8M pops with knowlege enabled.
I'm sure the pirate lord has been changed since this video, but... I was able to beat a BAD with just the Pirate Lord. The key was having Homeland Defense, Call to Arms, Overclock, and just a 420 alchemist (no Permabrew). The attack speed buffs far and away outpaced what Permabrew would have gotten me, and while the Alchemist ended up doing around 23k pops, I was still able to break 2 mil. Edit: Yeah, looks like they buffed the Pirate Lord since this video came out. I didn't have nearly as much trouble as you did.
