The ending - where the signal suddenly ends where that guy cuts a wire on the tower - is quite dramatic. TY for posting this clip.

Nobody is cutting a wire on the tower.... the TX was simply switched off. Video images pertain to the building of the aft mast using a gin pole.

After 02:19 is not the raid I think (e.g. "Volens" is not visible for that bit), but instead the temporary antenna system (that had been put up soon after the original ~300 foot mast collapse) being replaced by a new permanent (much more robust) antenna. I have heard that the raiders had been instructed to dismantle the antenna system but had not done so in practice - because doing so was a much harder job than their boss(es) had imagined.

Yes, I am sure they did not take down the masts. Radio Caroline people can be seen working in these film clips.

Piracy indeed! The raiders were the pirates here, a complete breech of international law. Caroline was a thorn in the side of the UK government for far too long for them and this was their last resort to stop them.

Were the dutch government ever prosecuted for this action? Was radio caroline compensated?

Yes. Many years later the plundered equipment was returned, much of it back on Ross Revenge, although I don't believe there was any fiscal remediation

UK government can raid a ship in international waters playing pop music but can't stop ANY of the hundreds of thousands of migrant dinghies sailing over the past 20 years who come to invade the UK almost daily

I am proud to say I used to supply Radio Caroline knowing the risk if caught was up to 2 years in clink. My company also looked after their rib and outboard motor. Great times to live through. I grew up with Caroline in the 60’s when there was no other pop music played anywhere. The BBC was crap. The wonderful Labour Government brought out the Marine Broadcasting Offences bill. Making it illegal to have any thing to do with the Pirates.

if that was an american boat, they would have taken fire before they even got close. the crew should have fought like hell and sent this event down in history humiliating the english govt .

A foretaste of what was to come. Governments don't like free people being able to broadcast anything that they don't approve of. It's the establishment line, or nothing.

I never knew they took the masts. It looks as though they only took sections off the top of the big mast. But I has no idea that they had crew trained in aerial rigging to dismantle the antenna!

I was listening the day off the raid, it was heart breaking. Radio in this country is too controlled by a minority group, they seek profit, they will never have the spirit which CAROLINE has. She rocks on today thanks to so many, who believe in the institution of CAROLINE and its ethos. Those who tried to silence her have no morals breaking international law. Independent radio owes so much to the likes of CAROLINE, which they need to be reminded off. Just look at DAB, it has so many black spots when driving around, call this advancement in radio, well that's a laugh :)
