this was such a ride the first time i listened/watched it! this is our first ever look into the person behind the persona, "j-hope". we're seeing jung hoseok's thoughts and it's very stark from the very person we thought we knew. hoseok has mentioned in fleeting moments in some interviews that he'd been a sad/depressed person in the past and had to act happy/excited bc of the persona he was given at debut. he was pretty much faking it till he truly felt a sense of comfort in being a happy/bubbly person. but then again, i had my suspicions that this persona was also the very thing that was holding him back from unleashing the negative emotions he'd harboured inside of him for almost a decade now, since debut. i'm glad he was able to put it into an album and i'm excited to see what other stories he has to share w us on july 15th!

I was actually kind of scared of this debut and its success...with Hobi being my fave since 2017, I always had a feeling he would do something crazy one day and all this sunny presentation of him would never fool me for once. I was expecting something heavy and rocky after his picture for this song were released and also cause he was saying for a long time that he always wanted to go in a completely different direction with his music. Still I was thinking of something less aggressive. Loved it though! And it is not even a title track)) For now I think it is gonna be one of my most favorite tracks of him cause I love his darker side doing rock. The whole MV just stole my heart! Everything here is so raw and personal! The artist finally is able to do what he wants and not to care about numbers and music charts! It is just so cool to witness this and reminds me of his Chicken Noodle Soup when he went for that project using his own money just for the sake of fun without thinking of its success. hey guys! here's my interpretation of the music video (along with some opinions/theories on twitter): in the concept photos and the mv, his depiction of jack in the box resembles more of a jester (the hat). in medieval times the jester was the only one allowed to criticise the king without punishment. therefore he is taking that opportunity to criticise and rebel, as demonstrated in the mv when he trips the boss up, surrounding by the tired workers the boss is exhausting. everyone joins the rebellion and in the end he closes the box watching over the situation, as if it was destined to happen and as if he understands the bigger picture. he sees the reality for what it is: injustice. also did you notice taehyung's cameo at 10:28????? he's wearing the vest and shirt at the back LMAO. idk if you know this but he also had a cameo in hobi's daydream mv. the behind the scenes for daydream was ADORABLE, highly recommend you watch lol. anyway, hobi is just one of the most versatile artists, he never misses. and this mv was amazing!!!!!
i agree with Efra that this was a risky first solo release, but will be impactful in the long run. btw i wouldn't say this is a completely new side to him. please listen to 1VERSE !!!! criminally underrated !!!!!!! also even though his other songs were much more brighter the subject matter sometimes isn't. i also recommend reading their weverse magazine interviews. they are very very good questions and it's amazing to see their thought processes. hobi said he wanted to show a dark raw side to him but if he did it in the style he usually did it wouldn't convey well so he wanted to challenge himself.
