  • This introductory session will cover the basic steps of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and the transition away from the previous Certification and Accreditation approach to information systems security and assurance. This will also cover the benefits of the RMF for organizations, local, state, and federal governments. This is first in a series on NIST’s Risk Management Framework (RMF). This session covers topics in (ISC)2 CAP certification, FISMA, DIACAP and DIARMF.

I really like your presentation. I can understand it better than reading a RMF book. Keep up the good work. Are you teaching?

You can certainly tell some of this is 5+ years old. How the DOD specifically, is tackling the synchronization of cyber defense has changed drastically. Just look into USCYBERCOM who is now the 10th Combatant Command and more specifically like at their sub-organization Joint Force Headquarters-Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN). Still in its infancy but just in the last two years they’ve made huge leaps in the synchronization of a global network.

*Note* USCYBERCOM was stood up but was under USSTRATCOM for a while. It wasn’t until 2018 (maybe late 2017) that they got out from that umbrella and were made their own Combatant Command.

Certification is the technical aspect of the c&A process, while the accreditation process is the administrative process of the C&A process.
