Engineer Vs Producer - Today’s video looks at the role of engineer vs producer. This video was inspired by a recent conversation with a musician about being in a recording studio. I could tell that perhaps their view of what a producer does differed from mine. And so I thought that I would make a video about what I see the difference being (I am aware that other people’s opinions will differ and I would love to know what you think in the comments!).
This video looks at how I see the two roles and the importance of understanding the difference between the two. It is aimed at beginner to intermediate producers, engineers and musicians.

Another great video - thanks. Totally unrelated comment - the name "Third Fret" - must have meaning for you? The reason I ask is that I'm working on a new EP where I am choosing the keys of the songs based on the emotions of the song .. I am doing a song that is reflecting gratitude and chose Eb major - playing it on guitar with capo at the third fret! Made me think of you!

If a producer touches any of the equipment in my studio, I remove their hands.
Best mic to use? Never had a producer know the difference between a dynamic or a condenser. They just say stuff like "NOOMAN YOU87, YOU HAFTA USE THAT EVERYONE ELSE DOES".. and then I roll my eyes, because their artists voice is better suited for an 89 or TLM 170 because they have a weird mid high raspiness..
