  • In honor of National Preparedness Month, J. Ekela Kaniaupio-Crozier shares essential tips to help the Hawaiian community prepare for disasters. She emphasizes the importance of identifying risks, having the contact information of loved ones, and encouraging those around you to also get prepared.
Hello, I am Ekela Kaniaupio-Crozier living in Waiehu, Maui for the past twenty years.
This month is National Preparedness Month. This is a month for us to reflect on working together to protect the important things in our life, our family, our friends, community and our beloved land.
We can prepare ourselves and our family before a disaster by carrying out these things:
    1. Know the dangers of climate and weather where you live. Sign up to receive warnings from government and county officials and police.
    2. Protect the things you love for the people you love. Protect valuables and important documents in a safe place, for example, birth certificates and identification papers.
    3. Plan ahead. Make a list of any special supplies you and your family need.
