Fixing up a GameBoy Advance Limited Edition Pokemon version from Japan! Sendico: bit.ly/45YHm0q #TheRetroFuture #GameBoy #Pokemon Sendico link is an affiliate link.
As much as i love the videos you upload on the main channel, i think these less edited videos are extremely relaxing to watch, i could watch hundreds of these simple repairs
Hi elliot. I love watching you and do take notes on some of your tips in refurbing. But I have one question. Will you ever do a tutorial on how to use sendico?
@@Flo280386riyou can get single items shipped if you want to, it’s just more cost effective to buy a few things to save on shipping. I made my 1st order on sendico a few days ago and it was really simple!
I'd love this too. I've bought a bunch of stuff from Buyee and I'm sure Sendico is just as easy to use, but I never quite know exactly how much it's going to cost all up, because I can estimate using their tools, but I don't know if getting it repackaged at the warehouse is going to cost me more or less if the box goes up in size, and if it would be cheaper to send as 2 smaller packages, or one big one. Knowing how Elliot does it would be amazing.
The two screws vs three screws difference, I actually know the reasoning for!! It seems the units that use 32-pin display ribbons have 3 screws. I think those are the earlier revisions. The systems with 40-pin display ribbons have only two screws inside. Probably a later revision
It's the other way around. 40-pin versions came first and usually have 3 screws. 32-pin versions are late revisions and almost always seem to have 2 screws.
@@SaturnHST that's odd. My 40 pin GBA only had 2 screws when I got it, and I was the first one in it. But you might be correct about the revision order EDIT: Yeah 40 pin was first. The screw number thing is odd then. I must've gotten one of the later 40 pin units when they reduced the screw count
This is why my favorite mod is the GBA 101, where you put an AGS-101 screen from an SP into an OG GBA. Good ergonomics, accurate back lit screen, and you're still using all original OEM parts. I totally understand wanting to keep this GBA completely original though. I imagine you dont really intend to play on it much anyway with how much you spent on it. :p
I totally understand the part about not modding it I bought a glacier blue gba with the intent of modding it with a ips screen and new shell , but it's in such clean condition and the buttons and switches are all tight and work perfectly I can't really bring myself to mod it
My guess on the history of this device is that it was sold, however returned soon afterwards due to the the screen issue. Then the shop owner seems to have not sent it in for repair (likely due to the warning on that paper you pulled out), so they just used it as a display unit. That would explain the great condition and completeness of it, and the slight sun bleaching on the box. But that's just my guess.
@@EatMeBeatMeMusicSays the fake police FYI the polarizer on LCDs will appear more or less worse based on lighting. If Elliott has taken the thumbnail photo with a camera flash, it will show more of the TRUTH you bunch of naysayers get a life
Enjoyed that. Having to try multiple times for the game to work but still remain calm, kudos to that. You definitely showed why a screen upgrade is the way to go. Still got my SP to upgrade... at some point.
I remember when that was being sold in the NYC PC store. I wanted to get them. But they were expensive even than. I had no idea that Japan imported some of the units. They removed the usual barcode and US repair number stickers.
Very expensive Advance handheld...unplayable on original screen...it's a collectors item...i have a backlit screen modded one like your others... there's newer laminated replacements now...but I'll leave mine as it is with the earlier separate lens...camera didn't like it either...your part 2 bike test fails haven't deterred to then Elliott? You only ride Honda Cub 90 you can continue to ride on L plates if you have a car license...or so it used to be...I hope the legislation hasn't changed...I passed decades ago...I was born to ride...and after 16 years I became an instructor...that's the part I'm proud of...the 30 odd years as a motorbike courier...no-one in my family ever approved...least of all my mother...but bikes were and still are...my way of life...although I'm retired now and winding down...i guess I'll quit riding altogether in maybe 5 or so more years...I shall know when i believe...my body is telling me constantly...back pain
Love me some Snood. I think I had my GBA for less than six months before the first light mod came out for it in Japan. I utterly ruined it installing the light, which wasn't that good, but first mod in about 2002.
Dumbfounded by how easily you managed the shoulder buttons. Any time I do a GBA, those things go flying across the room a few times. Am I just dumb!?!?
Keep at it with your Motorcycle test, it took me 4 times to pass.... And I failed for the same reasons (Cost me a fortune too) I didn't give up and now I've my license for two years.
Nice repair. Wouldn’t mind adding a backlit screen for better viewing because who knows if they have those little plug in port lites anymore as well as rechargeable batteries for the sake of batteries potentially leaking
When it comes to Nintendo I always prefer to have a none modded console with a r4 type of card or cartridge. It’s just a different feeling playing it none modded.
Nice find, Elliot. And I agree! Sometimes it's nice to play on OEM hardware, even if mods, and emulators can provide improvements. Cheers on the repair, and enjoy mate! :)
Almost unplayable is exactly how I remember the GameBoy Advance's screen. My brother had one, but I got myself an Advance SP because I hated the dark screen and the mushy button of the og Advance. However, I recently bought a GameBoy color and was very surprised at how clear its screen was in daylight an even under normal ceiling lights. I still replaced the GBC's original screen for a backlit one, as was the plan all along, because I like to play in the dark (eg in bed just before going to sleep), but that really makes me wonder: Is the GBA's screen actually darker than the GBC's, or is it better than I remember? 🤔
just did a quick (completely unscientific) test of the gbc compared to the gba and it'd seem that the gba's screen is a bit darker??? could be wrong though
As much as i love the videos you upload on the main channel, i think these less edited videos are extremely relaxing to watch, i could watch hundreds of these simple repairs

Hope you get your motorcycle license!! As I rider myself I cant wait for you to experience the joy riding gives :)
I’ve learned the click technique from you, it was a game changer, the sound is so satisfying
I eat dinner at my desk and usually put on a TH-cam video while I eat. Videos like this are perfect for that. Cozy :)
i was doing the same, needed a break from computer related issues 😴😴
We should all start posting what we're eating while watching his videos. There'll just be a bunch of random food comments like "spaghetti"

Does the backlight always just stay on with that mod? I can't imagine that there's a way to toggle to backlight like on the SP
My favorite mod is the FunnyPlaying IPS drop in screen mod. It requires no soldering so I held onto my OEM parts so I can always go back if I want
I'm really enjoying these kind of videos on your second channel. They're just so relaxing to watch.
you allways keep doing your videos really fast elliot!
Such a beautiful Game Boy! I loved it
Also, absolutely love your 2nd Channel
Great repair! 👍🏻

Excellent video Elliot. Really enjoyed it. I find it very satisfying watching your videos.

I am confused as to why a Japanese gameboy says "Pokemon Center New York"?
i noticed that too, hmmm
Really fun video thank you for this!
Elliot, these laidback repair viddos are absolutely supercalifragilisticusexpialidosous🎉 good luck on your next try at the motorbike's exam!
The "us" wasn't supposed to be there
Hello, can you tell me the model od tripod of your camera that is recording above? Can't manage to find one😂
It was kinda nice to see a console that didn't need much repair. Any idea when you'll be streaming again?
Watched the previous video of this gameboy being revealed when the video was 19 hours old and now watching this one at 19 minutes old
Missed the opportunity to like this comment at 19 minutes old
Why the fake thumbnail? I was already invested from yesterday's video but it definitely set up the wrong expectations
whats fake about it?
Nothing fake about the thumbnail get a life
@@Mozspearehave you seen the thumbnail? The damage shown in it is way worse than it is in the video
agreed.. clickbait is a terrible thing to do to your audience.

I see that I'm not the only one who gets that feeling when you hear the "click".
That GBA looks amazing. I want to get one for myself.
I actually used to have that system except it's a USA variant from New York City
Elliot you have strong MODDING skillz , on many videos , Well Done good sir , 😸👍👍
11:20 Aha! Elliot just exposed himself. I've suspected for a long time that Elliot's guilty pleasure is buying Gameboys, but now we have it confirmed!
Enjoyed that. Having to try multiple times for the game to work but still remain calm, kudos to that. You definitely showed why a screen upgrade is the way to go. Still got my SP to upgrade... at some point.
Great video as always
Elliot- you jumpscared me by twriling that screwdriver above the gba….. why would you even risk that??!!!
Congratulations on finding such a beautiful grail. It’s great to treat yourself sometimes and you certainly deserve it!
Beautiful but I would put an IPS screen in myself or just not bother fixing at all if it's just for display. Still...good video.
SNOOOOOD. That was my first GBA game. I had Pokemon Yellow before that, but I got Snood as my second game later. Still have my copy
Love the videos. Title is definitely Click baity for sure. Nothing about this $400 collectors item in amazing condition is junk.
I remember when that was being sold in the NYC PC store. I wanted to get them. But they were expensive even than. I had no idea that Japan imported some of the units. They removed the usual barcode and US repair number stickers.

Great pickup! Great great video. Just need some Lo-Fi music. Have a great one!
Elliot, be honest. Did you deliberately put the red light in the thumbnail to clickbait/get comments?
Please. Batteries in the gameboy, quickly.
You enjoy playing gameboys with unmodded screens... well so do I. At least on my AGS 001.

Why fake/photoshop the thumbnail? With such a rare gba and it being pokemon people wouldve clicked anyway
Nice repair. Wouldn’t mind adding a backlit screen for better viewing because who knows if they have those little plug in port lites anymore as well as rechargeable batteries for the sake of batteries potentially leaking
What I don’t get is the screen lense says “Pokémon center New York” but the manuals and everything with it are in total Japanese?
That has to be the best, worst, screen ever. And you know what I mean. Wowie zowie, no wonder I am blind from squinting so much.
When it comes to Nintendo I always prefer to have a none modded console with a r4 type of card or cartridge. It’s just a different feeling playing it none modded.
Oh boy I also just barely failed my first motorcycle test too, if I remember correctly I didn't posture right at a turn?
If i order one like this i'll put a drop-in ips lcd that requires no cut in the shell and soldering
That is not junk mate, that console is beautiful, Japanese people and their pristine junk T-T
Wow the price of these have really gone up. I bought one about 12 years ago with the box and it was only $50.
You didn't give the cartridge a blow? Been doing that since I was a kid, never damaged anything.
Interesting.
I always open my cartridges and clean them carefully. I guess this also cleans the slot as well.
The GBA SP is also more complicated to take apart and repair because of the clamshell design
I don't know if you realised but at around 8.20 in the video something falls out of the shell and off the desk onto the floor.
Can your next video be "how to do that fancy screwdriver flip" please
Did you find that black piece that fell on the floor?
"I always feel tempted to correct them" proceeds to call a Y type screw "tri-wing." lol
Maybe this is a gameboy for looking at and not looking at while playing? Some sort of mega powerful separately powered worm light, is required.
I spent so much time on the Mac version of Snood in the 90s
here is hoping 3rd time is a charm for your motorbike license! I hope you pass it mate.
Bro I can't fathom putting a regular screen in that beauty lol.
In its current state it seems more of a showpiece than anything to actually play on.

Please use pokemon games for the repairs lol.
I hade the US version of that. I traded it in for a DS lite 😢
