    I appreciate the effort that went into the retro theme of this video. From the vintage film grading and effects to the little details like the old school Sony Walkman headphones and the CRT television with the old school gaming console. Nice piece of work, Granger.

    So smart to include the micro-SD card! It can be treated as built-in storage for backup, much better than just having one card slot. Nikon are really showing that there are valid solutions if the maker really wants to, unlike certain other brands that exclude important features just for artificial market segmentation.

    They're going to sell a ton of Zf cameras. The broad spectrum of people will always want to get the most capability they can for the least amount that they can. The true definition of value. This is a superb video. The Zf appears to be squarely seated on that plain. When you realize how easy it is to fairly flawlessly double the resolution of a NEF in Lightroom or Photoshop, you're not even really missing out on the resolution. Even the media it uses is more reasonable. I think Nikon has knocked this one out of the park. Huzzah! 😀

    As a long time Canon shooter and now a Fuji shooter, I’ve always respected Nikon as a company but never been tempted by any of their cameras. Until now. Wow. This Nikon Zf looks like such a beautiful camera - especially when paired with the 40mm f2. I love my X-T5 and particularly the Fuji glass, but if Nikon can expand their lineup of small primes then the Zf might just be my new best friend.

    Nice comparing video. For an FM2 shooter, which i am, it seems like a good camera. A few months ago, I was deciding which camera will be my first digital and I got an X100V. It might have been much harder decision if Zf had been around but I´m glad for X100V because I can still use my FM2´s. I´m sure if I had got a Zf, the old cameras would stayed on the shelf.

Thank you for being yourself and delivering a steady and continuously enriching work to your audience. Quite informative and inspiring. My work horse is a D850 and in a couple of days I'll add a Z8 to my production line. Wanted to share that some months ago I offered a Zfc camera to my daughter which she loved and told her that I'll wait for it's full frame bigger brother to buy when it pops up one day. Dream finally coming true now 😅. Finally and not least, just a bonus appreciation of your nice cap that adds a pretty stylish touch to your look and videos. LOVE IT.... wish I could buy one 😅... Drop a link for me plzzzz 🙏🏻. Anticipated thanks 😊. Peace ✌🏼!

    Got the ZF over the weekend and the FTZII adapter. It's nice to see the compatibility with the F mount lenses, the older ones have to be manual focused and the others have auto focus working. Like you said in a video its because the older lens require the body to drive the power and a FTZIII adapter would be perfect (if they released one)

    Man..I have been on the fence to upgrade my Fuji X30. Decided to wait it out for X100V replacement next year, but as a Nikon owner and old Contax/Yashica fan…this hits the mark. The Df was overpriced, and the Zfc just didn’t jump out at me.

      Just sold my x100v to pick this up. Having owned the Fuji for 1.5 years, it was a lot of fun, but it feels much less capable than my Nikons. It’s nice to now see the same vintage aesthetic and small size packed with more capability than the bigger cameras.

  • @vidthreenorth4007
    @vidthreenorth4007 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    So the "ZFc" is closer to the actual size and shape of the old FE/FM bodies, but if you want the full frame and better performance, then you have to go with the Zf.

  • @tolga1cool
    @tolga1cool ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The only grievance I have is that Nikon really doesnt offer any lenses with an aperture ring. When shooting film with my FE / F3 or even digital I mostly shoot in aperture priority. This mode wont give you any of the prized "retro feel" on the ZF sadly since youll be using control dials again...
    In that sense for aperture priority only even any of the Sony a7 cameras will be more authentic / retro from a user's perspective since they have loads of lens options with aperture control. A shame really.
    Otherwise an absolutely amazing camera that I am actually considering to buy

    • @Jviotr
      @Jviotr ปีที่แล้ว

      I do appreciate Sony putting aperture rings on their lenses. You can assign the control ring on Z lenses to be aperture adjustment, but it’s not as good an experience.

    I didnt want this, but that backup micro SD, metal top and bottom, brass dials and proper engraving may just deliver the retro hit i get with my old film Nikons. Wish it had more MP but as Matt said yesterday its as good as anything film can produce as is. I think this could be a long term line for Nikon its going to do well. Lets have a Titanium version 🙂

    I never understood why Nikon only put the touchscreen AF point control (when using the viewfinder) only on the D5x00 cameras, until now. I was shocked when I first upgraded to a D7500 and it didn’t have it, despite being newer and more expensive than my D5600 at the time.

    Great video Matt! This let's owners of Z6II see an upgrade path if they don't want to wait for MK III, with possible 6K video recording. For most buying this camera, the new features will be fantastic and having up to 60p (even with a crop) is great as most people aren't going to be doing high level video with it anyways. With color choices, this will appeal to young and old alike, I think Nikon has a it with this one.

    Nikon, which in my opinion delivers quality on a par with everyone else in the industry, has finally understood that in order to increase sales, they must get out on the big social media to a much greater extent than before. And they managed this this time. This will be a success for them. It is fair enough that in the end it is about the product itself, but it must be seen after all. A LOT

    I paid 2299.95 for my Z7 II in this summers Sale. If Nikon follows it's form that will be the retail price after next January. BTW, if the Zf offered 46 MP that would have been my first choice for a mirrorless because it so resembles by beloved F2sb from the control standpoint. Don't really need 46 mp but one thing that extra resolution provides is a much wider range of crop space. This allows me to use my 37 year old EDIF 180mm f2.8 AF-Nikkor as a 180-360mm zoom in a very light weight package. Note, Nikon really dropped the ball by not offering a 200 f 2.8 S line prime. While the 80-200 is an excellent lens it is much heavier than a 200mm Prime would be. Good news is that old 180 is every bit as good as a modern S line lens in terms of image quality.

    The Zf is the best value for a do-everything camera that doesn't break the bank (still does 4k video, improved IBIS and AF) but the Z5 I feel is the ultimate value in FF photography in the Z line at least, especailly when it goes on sale for $999. It's not the fastest, but if you want a capable FF camera with IBIS and dual card slots, it's hard to beat, unless you need the faster AF or the 4k video (which the Z5 obviously does that too but with a crop, but I think the Zf can do 4k30 without a crop). But for stills-only, the Z5 is st ill a very good value, and between the two, someone could get a primary and backup body and a lens probably for less than a single Z8.

    I have the Z fc and the original z6 . I am thinking of upgrading my z6 to the new z f . The one thing that puts me off is no cf express card slot . . Nikon could have made that section wider for a cf express and it would have also of given the Z f a better grip at the same time . I don’t like the idea of loosing the cf express function of these cards and card reader . I would have liked an extra function button and a slightly larger lcd that I find hard to see on my Z fc . Apart from that I would be happy to have one.

    I always felt like both Nikon and Canon would eventually win people back, once the market was fully in the mirrorless era, even while they were relentless mocked for being 'behind' Sony and Fuji. While the Fujis were vague imitations of the TX-1, Contax RTS and Leica M, I think this is much stronger proposition in terms of film camera legacy and brand identity, combined with actual 'full frame' performance. Being able to flip the screen away and switch to B&W so easily adds to the effect.

    I think the Fuji XT5 wins over this. The Nikon is massive, worse in ergonomics, only has 24mp vs 40mp, and lacks the lenses to make it a full retro camera at most focal lengths. The Fuji 1.4s are smaller than Nikons 1.8s, so the full frame advantage isnt really there. I’d like to see this with 45mp in the ZFc body to become really competitive, Sony showed with the a7cr that full frame doesn’t need to be big. And then obviously more and smaller lenses.

    Z6(II)/Z7(II) will never have the AF of the Zf/8/9 because of the older Expeed 6 processor. Firmware can't change that.

    As a owner of the Z50 (and hobbyist photographer) and critic of Nikon for not having affordable mid-range and APSC cameras with similar AF to the Z8/Z9. The new ZF is great new affordable FF camera. Unfortunately for me Nikon still hasn't introduce an APSC camera with great AF (D500 replacement). Also the new ZF is a RETRO camera which I simply hate (I may be in the minority), but if Nikon would have introduce this camera in the Z6II body, I may have switch a FF camera. I think the new ZF features (except for the 24.5 megapixel; prefer maybe 33 megapixel) and specification are awesome, again the Retro body is just not for me.

      I am guessing the z6/z7 twins will be refreshed next year. The second camera release might be a higher end aps-c with the Expeed 7, too.

    I just wish they made some lenses as nicely made as they used to be. With the 90s blob designed bodies, the lenses also went to plain plasticy & cheap feeling, even when we spend $2.5-3k on a decent S model, or the cheap plastic SE lenses designed to match. You have to go to old optics to find something that looks and feels like the quality to match the body, & then the FTZ adapter looks like an ugly brick between the them yet. Annoying.

    Why oh Why they keep NOT including RAW files for multiple exposures?!?!?! Why keep up with crappy JPGs???? My 2008 D700 can do it.. why did they keep this out of the Z series? I bet it's just a software upgrade.

      Not sure what you mean- for bracketing and focus shift, it will do this with RAW.

      @SebastianWilsonswlfoto2014 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jm31828 I know, but multiple exposures are something different, you can (as the name says) take different exposures in one file. For example once I was in a restaurant and took, 7 different exposures depending on the intensity of the light, rendering a mucho more pleaseing and natural result than an HDR. Plus I got it ready in camera, no need to post process it.

    Why say “price point”? Why not say “price” like it’s been since time began? Adding the word point does not add too or enhance the word price.

    • @mattgranger
      @mattgranger  ปีที่แล้ว

      Prive point refers to the fact that these things are sold are a scale or range of prices, and in this case there was a lot of speculation where it would come in at. Also, it makes it a bit looser, so cameras that are 1800 or 2200 may be considered as a group. IMO anyway.

    It's a pickle. The Zf brings so much to the table - but I suspect a single CFExpress card would be equal to the dual SD card system as far as reliability (yet as a very nice travel camera, one could say the ability to buy SD cards just about anywhere trumps that). I've bought too many Z cameras this year so I think I'll wait for the Z6III - and it really boogles the mind what they would stuff in the Z6III - and at what price point. So I've gone from "meh" to "now wait a minute!".

    • @xophaser
      @xophaser ปีที่แล้ว

      I might do the stupid and get the Zf even though i got the z8 and z30 this year. But I will wait till the z6iii and see what the spec is. But the ZF looks so good, like my DF.

    What an absolute shame. This is the camera I've been hanging out for and would probably have been over this like a ton of bricks. However, the absolute deal-breaker is that stupid screen. I just couldn't live with that. I do zero video, zero vlogging or selfies. Just basic, photography, street/events, shooting from the hip. This would have been perfect with the same screen as my Z6ii. Oh Nikon, what on earth were you thinking?

    Nikon should reverse adapt this camera to use Fmount lens. If this sucker had a Fmount I would buy it to use my dozen fmount vintage lenses. Alas I think there are like maybe 1000 people on Earth who would want this thing. So I wont be saving my money. I do love the look of this camera. And MAYBE Nikon could just make an adapter that looks vintage.

      add the FTZ adapter and thats it. I guess you can scratch it up to look vintage haha, But you cannot make is smaller.
