Thank you so much for this review! I just picked up the Sonys thanks to Cheapaudioman and already had the Pioneer so seeing this review was exactly what I was looking for. Going to have to put my Pioneers out front and see if I can tell what you mean by a better soundstage
Thank you for the compliment! After hearing the bs22lr the temptation was unavoidable to hear a MTM version. It does not disappoint, so long as you are not requiring much bass under 70hz. The midrange magic, combined with the MTM style configuration, combined with an external subwoofer and crossed over at the appropriate frequency of 80hz, makes for a very fun movie and music listening experience. That was my Andrew Jones impersonation. 😬
I watch a decent amount of speaker and amplifier reviews. Your style and presentation is among the most enjoyable and interesting to listen to. So happy to hear someone still talking about the pioneer BS-22 in 2022. The sound is so satisfying I bought two pair. Trying out the pioneer center channel speakers (set up vertically) sounds interesting. I didn't expect the elac 41 would sound as good, partly because amazon kept dropping the price after christmas down to $68/pair. But I've heard several reviewers complimenting them recently. Really enjoying your tear-down and internal view videos. And the cats were very creative. 😹

I am enjoying the Sony 590 AVR, sscs5's and sscs8. You were so right and thank you! Last Sunday, I found a pristine pair of BS 22's from 2014 for $40. They look and sound brand new. I set them up next to the Sony's (both on the same stands... only had 2 stands). I have been comparing as time allowed to see if I should keep the Sony's. My LR is small, so one pair at a time is all I need. I think the Sony's sound better to me so far (good high/mid and adequate bass - the movie theatre). I will definitely keep the BS 22's which also sound excellent just not as defined. Perhaps, I will someday have another room for them or just feel like swapping in the LR occasionally. Do you have a recommendation on a low cost, quality, over ear, comfortable wireless headphone with aptx? Not asking much huh. It looks like the Elac BS41 has air core coils on the woofer and the tweeter - which is great. That's where its cleaner bass comes from. It also looks like it really needs a stiffening brace between the drivers - I'll bet you that is where the veiling on the upper midrange is coming from.
